    Fluid pumping system based on electrochemically-induced surface tension changes

    A pump for exerting a pumping force on a fluid in an attached conduit, the pump being actuated by a voltage from a power supply, the pump comprising a liquid metal pool, a containment vessel for confining the pool, an inner tubular member in hydraulic contact with the attached conduit and with an open end disposed in the pool to divide a free upper surface of the pool into an actuation surface and a working surface, an electrolyte in contact with the actuation surface, an electrode in contact with the electrolyte, and an electrode in contact with the pool, such that application of a voltage to the electrodes causes a surface tension change in the actuation surface and a resulting height change in the working surface, whereby a pumping action is transferred to the fluid in the attached conduit

    Radiative transitions in charmonium from Nf=2N_f=2 twisted mass lattice QCD

    We present a study for charmonium radiative transitions: J/ψηcγJ/\psi\rightarrow\eta_c\gamma, χc0J/Ψγ\chi_{c0}\rightarrow J/\Psi\gamma and hcηcγh_c\rightarrow\eta_c\gamma using Nf=2N_f=2 twisted mass lattice QCD gauge configurations. The single-quark vector form factors for ηc\eta_c and χc0\chi_{c0} are also determined. The simulation is performed at a lattice spacing of a=0.06666a= 0.06666 fm and the lattice size is 323×6432^3\times 64. After extrapolation of lattice data at nonzero Q2Q^2 to 0, we compare our results with previous quenched lattice results and the available experimental values.Comment: typeset with revtex, 15 pages, 11 figures, 4 table

    Identifying the Riemann zeros by periodically driving a single qubit

    The Riemann hypothesis, one of the most important open problems in pure mathematics, implies the most profound secret of prime numbers. One of the most interesting approaches to solve this hypothesis is to connect the problem with the spectrum of the physical Hamiltonian of a quantum system. However, none of the proposed quantum Hamiltonians have been experimentally feasible.Here, we report the first experiment to identify the first non-trivial zeros of the Riemann zeta function and the first two zeros of P\'olya's fake zeta function, using a novel Floquet method, through properly designed periodically driving functions. According to this method, the zeros of these functions are characterized by the occurrence of crossings of quasi-energies when the dynamics of the system are frozen. The experimentally obtained zeros are in excellent agreement with their exact values. Our study provides the first experimental realization of the Riemann zeros, which may provide new insights into this fundamental mathematical problem.Comment: 5 pages, 7 figure

    Nanoalloying and phase transformations during thermal treatment of physical mixtures of Pd and Cu nanoparticles

    Nanoscale alloying and phase transformations in physical mixtures of Pd and Cu ultrafine nanoparticles are investigated in real time with in situ synchrotron-based x-ray diffraction complemented by ex situ high-resolution transmission electron microscopy. The combination of metal-support interaction and reactive/non-reactive environment was found to determine the thermal evolution and ultimate structure of this binary system. At 300 degrees C, the nanoparticles supported on silica and carbon black intermix to form a chemically ordered CsCl-type (B2) alloy phase. The B2 phase transforms into a disordered fcc alloy at higher temperature (\u3e 450 degrees C). The alloy nanoparticles supported on silica and carbon black are homogeneous in volume, but evidence was found of Pd surface enrichment. In sharp contrast, when supported on alumina, the two metals segregated at 300 degrees C to produce almost pure fcc Cu and Pd phases. Upon further annealing of the mixture on alumina above 600 degrees C, the two metals interdiffused, forming two distinct disordered alloys of compositions 30% and 90% Pd. The annealing atmosphere also plays a major role in the structural evolution of these bimetallic nanoparticles. The nanoparticles annealed in forming gas are larger than the nanoparticles annealing in helium due to reduction of the surface oxides that promotes coalescence and sintering

    Development of a thiophene derivative modified LDH coating for Mg alloy corrosion protection.

    A new thiophene derivative corrosion inhibitor (CI) was developed to functionalize the layered double hydroxide (LDH) primer on Mg alloy to enhance corrosion protection. Compared with bare LDH coating, the composite coatings consisting of a MgAl-LDH primer and an outer CI layer showed highly compact surface structures without large pores and gaps, thereby indicating the enhanced capability to resist the penetration of corrosive species. Electrochemical tests revealed that the MgAl-LDH film modified with the newly synthesized CI exhibited higher charge transfer resistance and lower corrosion current density than films modified with commercial CIs. The highest enhancement in corrosion resistance was linked to the film's ability to repair physical damage by forming precipitates through chemical complexation and adsorption of the CIs. These findings open up new opportunities for the design and synthesis of a thiophene-contained inhibitor to modify LDH films and to obtain a composite coating with superior corrosion protection

Rumah Sakit Jiwa merupakan satu satunya rujukan utama bagi perawatan jiwa masyarakat. Dewasa ini, pengembangan peran serta lingkungan fisik terhadap kesehatan mental pasien cukup pesat. Sehingga dapat menjadi literature dalam Perencanaan re-desain interior Rumah Sakit Jiwa Lawang Malang. Perencanaan re-desain interior RSJ berdasarkan observasi obyek desain, wawancara pihak petugas medis rumah sakit, maupun wawancara dari pihak keluarga pasien. Hasil yang diperoleh berupa konsep perancangan Rumah Sakit Jiwa dengan konsep terapeutik. Oleh karena itu, dapat disusun sebuah konsep dan meredesain desain interior Rumah Sakit Jiwa Dr. Radjiman Wediodiningrat Lawang Malang dengan konsep terapeutik yang mengedepankan Kenyamanan pasien dari aspek sirkulasi dan desain ruangan terapi dari Rumah Sakit Jiwa Dr. Radjiman Wediodiningrat Lawang Malang

    Pd-Based Electrocatalysts for Oxygen Reduction and Ethanol Oxidation Reactions: Some Recent Insights into Structures and Mechanisms

    质子交换膜燃料电池和直接乙醇燃料电池已成为可持续性清洁能源研究的一个聚焦点。在燃料电池中,氧还原反应和乙醇氧化反应是两个重要的反应,其相关高活性、高稳定性并且廉价的催化剂的研发仍然存在很多问题,极大地制约了燃料电池的大规模商业化应用。其中的挑战主要来自于对纳米催化剂结构和反应机理的有限认识。由于实验表征理论计算的结合,对钯基合金纳米材料电催化剂的研究得到了很大的进展。本文从实验和理论计算两个方面出发,重点讨论了应用于氧还原反应和乙醇氧化反应的钯和钯基电催化剂的结构和反应机理方面的近期研究的一些见解。这些见解对未来催化剂的设计与优化有一定的启发意义。The development of efficient electrocatalysts for applications in fuel cells, including proton-exchange membrane fuel cell (PEMFC) and direct ethanol fuel cell (DEFC), has attracted extensive research attention in recent years. Oxygen reduction reaction and ethanol oxidation reaction are two of the key reactions where the design of active, stable and low-cost electrocatalysts is critical for the mass commercializations of PEMFCs and DEFCs. This challenge stems largely from the limited understanding of the catalyst structures and reaction mechanisms. Progress has been made in investigations of electrocatalysts derived from Pd-based alloy nanomaterials both experimentally and computationally. We highlight herein some of the recent insights into the catalyst structures and reaction mechanisms of Pd and Pd-based electrocatalysts in oxygen reduction reaction and ethanol oxidation reaction.
