Some Remarks on the Structure of John Eugenikos' Ekphraseis of Cities and Places

This article attempts a global survey of the similarities observed in the ekphraseisof cities and places composed by John Eugenikos, on the one hand identifying the structural similarity they display and on the other tracing the form they appear to follow. The ultimate object is to highlight the differences between them, which are not simply a matter of divergence from the common framework but on the contrary demonstrate the writer’s striving for originality in these texts.

Utilization of nitrogen in the Darkov Colliery, OKD, a. s.

Import 22/07/2015Tato práce se zabývá využitím dusíku na dole Darkov, OKD, a.s. V první kapitole je uveden vývoj inertizace v hornictví, kde jsou popsány příklady použití v historii. Pro tuto problematiku jsou v další části analyzovány některé vybrané případy inertizace na dole Darkov, OKD, a.s. Následně jsou začleněny technické prostředky inertizace a jejich použití. Nedílnou součástí je aerodynamika a inertizace závalových prostor. V závěru je provedeno ekonomické zhodnocení.This work deals with the utilization of nitrogen at the Darkov Colliery, an one of a deep mine of the Ostrava-Karvina District (OKD). The first chapter provides historical review of the technical devices. The next chapter illustrates application of the technique at the Darkov Colliery as illustrated on a few selected examples. List of integrated inertisation equipment, and its application, follows. Attention is paid also to the aerodynamics of a gob. COSO and ACFE fraud risk management guide. A research on how an organization can implement it in practice.

Η έρευνα εξετάζει την εφαρμογή του πλαισίου Εσωτερικού Ελέγχου COSO - IC-IF από τις Ελληνικές εταιρείες και ιδιαίτερα της αρχής 8 του πλαισίου COSO, που αναφέρει ότι «Ο οργανισμός εξετάζει την πιθανότητα απάτης στην εκτίμηση κινδύνων ως προς την επίτευξη των στόχων». Επιπρόσθετα, η έρευνα εξετάζει και αναλύει τον τρόπο με τον οποίο οι ελληνικοί οργανισμοί θεωρούν τον κίνδυνο απάτης ως μέσο πρόληψης και ανίχνευσης, καθώς και ως μια συνεχή, ολοκληρωμένη διαδικασία διαχείρισης κινδύνων απάτης. Όσον αφορά τη μεθοδολογία, 15 στελέχη επιλέχθηκαν ως αντιπροσωπευτικό δείγμα και ερωτήθηκαν μέσω προσωπικών συνεντεύξεων. Οι συνεντεύξεις βασίστηκαν σε μια εξατομικευμένη σειρά ερωτήσεων μέσω των οποίων εξήχθησαν συμπεράσματα και απόψεις σχετικά με τον τρόπο με τον οποίο οι οργανισμοί εξετάζουν και διαχειρίζονται τον κίνδυνο απάτης. Η έρευνα κατέδειξε ότι η απάτη επηρεάζεται από την οργανωτική δομή, την εταιρική διακυβέρνηση καθώς και με το γεγονός ότι οι οργανισμοί δεν είναι εξοικειωμένοι με την διαχείριση του κινδύνου απάτης.The study examines the adoption by Greek companies of the COSO - IC-IF (Committee of Sponsoring Organizations of the Treadway Commission- Internal Control –Integrated framework) and specifically its Principle 8, which states that “The organization considers the potential for fraud in assessing risks to the achievement of objectives”. Furthermore, Fraud Risk Management Guide (2016) that includes five principles consistent with the five COSO Internal Control Components and the 17 COSO principles methodology is reviewed for organizations desiring to establish a more comprehensive approach to managing fraud risk, this guide includes more than just the information needed to perform a fraud risk assessment. The study examines and analyzes the way Greek organizations consider the risk of fraud as a mean of prevention and detection as well as an ongoing, comprehensive Fraud Risk Management process. In terms of methodology, 15 executives were selected as a representative sample and were interviewed. The interviews were based on a customized set of questions through which conclusions were drawn and opinions were exported on how organizations examine and manage the risk of fraud. The research highlighted that fraud is affected by the organizational structure, Corporate Governance and not being familiarized with the concept of FRM

Monolithic integration of a phase noise based quantum random number generator on InP platform

We present the experimental characterization of a fully integrated InP-based quantum random number generator chip composed from a single gain switched DBR laser and two Mach Zehnder interferometers. We demonstrate high degree of randomness by testing the QRNG output in the NIST Statistical Test Suite

Temperature and wavelength drift tolerant WDM transmission and routing in on-chip silicon photonic interconnects

We demonstrate a temperature and wavelength shift resilient silicon transmission and routing interconnect system suitable for multi-socket interconnects, utilizing a dual-strategy CLIPP feedback circuitry that safeguards the operating point of the constituent photonic building blocks along the entire on-chip transmission-multiplexing-routing chain. The control circuit leverages a novel control power-independent and calibration-free locking strategy that exploits the 2nd derivative of ring resonator modulators (RMs) transfer function to lock them close to the point of minimum transmission penalty. The system performance was evaluated on an integrated Silicon Photonics 2-socket demonstrator, enforcing control over a chain of RM-MUX-AWGR resonant structures and stressed against thermal and wavelength shift perturbations. The thermal and wavelength stress tests ranged from 27 degrees C to 36 degrees C and 1309.90 nm to 1310.85 nm and revealed average eye diagrams Q-factor values of 5.8 and 5.9 respectively, validating the system robustness to unstable environments and fabrication variations.
