Coordinated Multicasting with Opportunistic User Selection in Multicell Wireless Systems
Physical layer multicasting with opportunistic user selection (OUS) is
examined for multicell multi-antenna wireless systems. By adopting a two-layer
encoding scheme, a rate-adaptive channel code is applied in each fading block
to enable successful decoding by a chosen subset of users (which varies over
different blocks) and an application layer erasure code is employed across
multiple blocks to ensure that every user is able to recover the message after
decoding successfully in a sufficient number of blocks. The transmit signal and
code-rate in each block determine opportunistically the subset of users that
are able to successfully decode and can be chosen to maximize the long-term
multicast efficiency. The employment of OUS not only helps avoid
rate-limitations caused by the user with the worst channel, but also helps
coordinate interference among different cells and multicast groups. In this
work, efficient algorithms are proposed for the design of the transmit
covariance matrices, the physical layer code-rates, and the target user subsets
in each block. In the single group scenario, the system parameters are
determined by maximizing the group-rate, defined as the physical layer
code-rate times the fraction of users that can successfully decode in each
block. In the multi-group scenario, the system parameters are determined by
considering a group-rate balancing optimization problem, which is solved by a
successive convex approximation (SCA) approach. To further reduce the feedback
overhead, we also consider the case where only part of the users feed back
their channel vectors in each block and propose a design based on the balancing
of the expected group-rates. In addition to SCA, a sample average approximation
technique is also introduced to handle the probabilistic terms arising in this
problem. The effectiveness of the proposed schemes is demonstrated by computer

Risk Spillovers in Returns for Chinese and International Tourists to Taiwan
Fluctuations in the numbers of visitors directly affect the rates of return on tourism business activities. Therefore, maintaining a firm grasp of the relationship between the changes in the numbers of Chinese tourists and international travellers visiting Taiwan is conducive to the formulation of an effective and practical tourism strategy. Although the topic of international visitors to Taiwan is important, existing research has discussed the issue of the travel demand between Chinese tourists and international travellers visiting Taiwan. This paper is the first to examine the spillover effects between the rate of change in the numbers of Chinese tourist arrivals and the rate of change in the numbers of international traveller arrivals. Using daily data for Chinese tourists and international travellers visiting Taiwan over the period from 1 January 2014 to 31 October 2016, together with the Diagonal BEKK model, the paper analyses the co-volatility spillover effects between the rate of change in the numbers of international travellers and the rate of change in the numbers of Chinese tourists visiting Taiwan. The empirical results show that there is no dependency relationship between the rate of change in the numbers of Chinese tourists and the rate of change in the numbers of international travellers visiting Taiwan. However, there is a significant negative co-volatility spillover effect between the rate of change in the numbers of Chinese tourists and the rate of change in the numbers of international travellers. The empirical findings suggest that Taiwan should abandon its development strategy of focusing only on a single market, namely China, and to be pro-active in encouraging visits by international travellers to Taiwan for sightseeing purposes, thereby increasing the willingness of international travellers to visit Taiwan. Moreover, with the reduction in the numbers of Chinese tour groups visiting Taiwan, and increases in the numbers of individual travellers, the Taiwan Government should change its previous travel policies of mainly attracting Chinese tour group travellers and actively promoting in-depth tourism among international tourists, by developing tourism that focuses on the special characteristics of different localities. In this way, the government can enhance the quality of Taiwan’s tourism, and also attract travellers with high spending power
Loss of vesicular dopamine release precedes tauopathy in degenerative dopaminergic neurons in a Drosophila model expressing human tau.
While a number of genome-wide association studies have identified microtubule-associated protein tau as a strong risk factor for Parkinson's disease (PD), little is known about the mechanism through which human tau can predispose an individual to this disease. Here, we demonstrate that expression of human wild-type tau is sufficient to disrupt the survival of dopaminergic neurons in a Drosophila model. Tau triggers a synaptic pathology visualized by vesicular monoamine transporter-pHGFP that precedes both the age-dependent formation of tau-containing neurofibrillary tangle-like pathology and the progressive loss of DA neurons, thereby recapitulating the pathological hallmarks of PD. Flies overexpressing tau also exhibit progressive impairments of both motor and learning behaviors. Surprisingly, contrary to common belief that hyperphosphorylated tau could aggravate toxicity, DA neuron degeneration is alleviated by expressing the modified, hyperphosphorylated tau(E14). Together, these results show that impairment of VMAT-containing synaptic vesicle, released to synapses before overt tauopathy may be the underlying mechanism of tau-associated PD and suggest that correction or prevention of this deficit may be appropriate targets for early therapeutic intervention
An event study of chinese tourists to Taiwan
The number of Chinese tourists visiting Taiwan has been closely related to the political relationship across the Taiwan Strait. The occurrence of political events and disasters or accidents have had, and will continue to have, a huge impact on the Taiwan tourism market. To date, there has been relatively little empirical research conducted on this issue. In this paper, tourists are characterized as being involved in one of three types of tourism: group tourism (group-type), individual tourism (individualtype), and medical cosmetology (medical-type). We use McAleer’s (2015) fundamental equation in tourism finance to examine the correlation that exists between the rate of change in the number of tourists and the rate of return on tourism. Second, we use the event study method to observe whether the numbers of tourists have changed abnormally before and after the occurrence of major events on both sides of the Strait. Three different types of conditional variance models, namely, GARCH (1,1), GJR (1,1) and EGARCH (1,1), are used to estimate the abnormal rate of change in the number of tourists. The empirical results concerning the major events affecting the changes in the numbers of tourists from China to Taiwan are economically significant, and confirm which types of tourists are most likely to be affected by such major events
Kappa-Opioid Receptors in the Caudal Nucleus Tractus Solitarius Mediate 100 Hz Electroacupuncture-Induced Sleep Activities in Rats
Previous results demonstrated that 10 Hz electroacupuncture (EA) of Anmian acupoints in rats during the dark period enhances slow wave sleep (SWS), which involves the induction of cholinergic activity in the caudal nucleus tractus solitarius (NTS) and subsequent activation of opioidergic neurons and μ-receptors. Studies have shown that different kinds of endogenous opiate peptides and receptors may mediate the consequences of EA with different frequencies. Herein, we further elucidated that high-frequency (100 Hz)-EA of Anmian enhanced SWS during the dark period but exhibited no direct effect on rapid eye movement (REM) sleep. High-frequency EA-induced SWS enhancement was dose-dependently blocked by microinjection of naloxone or κ-receptor antagonist (nor-binaltorphimine) into the caudal NTS, but was affected neither by μ- (naloxonazine) nor δ-receptor antagonists (natatrindole), suggesting the role of NTS κ-receptors in the high-frequency EA-induced SWS enhancement. Profit Maximization by Forming Federations of Geo-Distributed MEC Platforms

access networks aims to reduce the service latency experienced
by end devices. When individual MEC systems do not have
adequate resource capacity to fulfill service requests, forming
MEC federations for resource sharing could provide economic
incentive to MEC operators. To this end, we need to maximize
social welfare in each federation, which involves efficient federation
structure generations, federation profit maximization by
resource provisioning configuration, and fair profit distribution
among participants. We model the problem as a coalition game
with difference from prior work in the assumption of latency
and locality constraints and also in the consideration of various
service policies/demand preferences. Simulation results show that
the proposed approach always increases profits. If local requests
are served with local resource with priority, federation improves
