Monte Carlo simulation of the classical two-dimensional one component plasma
Monte Carlo simulation, lattice dynamics in the harmonic approximation, and solution of the hypernetted chain equation were used to study the classical two-dimensional one component plasma. The system consists of a single species of charged particles immersed in a uniform neutralizing background. The particles interact via a l/r potential, where r is the two dimensional separation. Equations of state were calculated for both the liquid and solid phases. Results of calculation of the thermodynamic functions and one and two particle correlation functions are presented
Biographical Note on Persoon
Although the name and works of Christian Hendrik Persoon are well known to most botanists, the biography of this illustrious mycologist is not. This fact is attributable to the following reasons: the dearth of accurate information; incompleteness of any biographical account; and the difficulty involved in finding that material which is available. An attempt is made here to alleviate this situation
Lignin, Cellulose and Crude Fiber Changes in Maturing Western Wheatgrass: (Agropyron smithii Rybd.)
It can be said from observations that plants become more woody as they mature. A young plant is relatively tender and supple, whereas an older plant is tougher and has greater strength structure. The nature of this woodiness and its effect upon the digestibility of plants and plant products by animals is of some concern
Geology and Mineralogy of the Wellington Mine, Breckenridge, Summit County, Colorado
Submitted in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Master of ArtsIncludes oversized supplementary maps and a graphText from page 3: This paper is based on work done during the summer of 1915, while the writer was a member of a field party, engaged in geological work in the vicinity of Breckenridge, Colorado. Through the kindness of Mr. R. M. Henderson, manager of the Wellington Mines Company's property, permission was secured to examine the underground workings of the Wellington mine, the most important zinc-lead mine in the Breckenridge district. Plans showing the location of the principal drifts and stopes were furnished by Mr. Henderson, and, with these maps as guides, the writer made quite a thorough survey of the workings, determining, as far as possible, the geology and mineralogy of the mine. Many specimens of the country rock and the minerals were secured, and intensive study was made of them in the laboratory during the past winter
Protein Metabolism in Rats with Tumors of the Liver
The purpose of our study was to determine possible alteration in water, fat, and protein content of the livers from rats fed DAB for long periods. Aliquots were used for the protein determinations
Optical Model Methods of Predicting Nuclide Fragment Production for Space and Radiation Therapy Applications
Reliable methods of accurately and quickly estimating heavy fragment production cross sections are needed for a variety of applications including the production of beams of radioactive ions, studies of the relative abundance of the nuclei in galactic cosmic rays, space radiation protection, and in radiation therapy for treatment of cancers. Quantum mechanical optical model methods for calculating isotope production cross sections for nucleus-nucleus and nucleus-proton interaction are developed from a modified abrasion-ablation collision formalism. The abrasion step is treated quantum-mechanically as a knockout process which leave the residual prefragment nucleus in an excited state. In ablation the prefragment deexcites to produce the final fragment. The excitation energies of the prefragment are estimated from a combination of liquid drop and frictional spectator-interaction combination. Estimates of elemental and isotopic production cross sections are in good agreement with recently published cross section measurements
