As part of experimental measurements by the ATLAS collaboration during 2015 and 2018 years of light-on-light scattering in Pb+Pb collisions, at an integrated luminosity of 2.2 nb1^{-1} and energy of 5.02 TeV, we modeled the cross sections of the axion-like particle (ALP) production, candidates for dark matter, with subsequent decay into gamma quanta. The obtained calculations showed the dependence of the cross section on the number of ALPs events, on the energy in the center of mass system in proton-proton and Pb-Pb collisions and on the mass region of the ALPs. Using four models with the parameters, which specify the Good-Walker eigenstates, we calculated the ALP production cross sections in proton-proton collisions for the single dissociation and diffractive dissociation components.Comment: 6 pages, 5 figure

In memoriam Eduard Lugovskoi and Russell Doolittle we are referring to several episodes of their life and work. Russell Doolittle an American biochemist and his friend and colleague Ukrainian scientist Eduard Lugovskoi, both studied fibrinogen structure and functions and finally united their efforts in the revealing of the new mechanism of intramolecular interactions of fibrin molecule through coiled-coil region. The results of their common work and discussions were included to the article “The fibrin Bβ125-135 site is involved in the lateral association of protofibrils”. Valuable part of the communication dedicated to the poetry of Eduard Lugovskoi that inspired both of scientists in work and life. We are providing some remembrance of their collaboration, their letters sent to each other, fragments of handwriting and common photo of Russell Doolittle and Eduard Lugovskoi

Phenomenological description of the nonlocal magnetization relaxation in magnonics, spintronics, and domain-wall dynamics

A phenomenological equation called Landau-Lifshitz-Baryakhtar (LLBar) equation, which could be viewed as the combination of Landau-Lifshitz (LL) equation and an extra "exchange damping" term, was derived by Baryakhtar using Onsager's relations. We interpret the origin of this "exchange damping" as nonlocal damping by linking it to the spin current pumping. The LLBar equation is investigated numerically and analytically for the spin wave decay and domain wall motion. Our results show that the lifetime and propagation length of short-wavelength magnons in the presence of nonlocal damping could be much smaller than those given by LL equation. Furthermore, we find that both the domain wall mobility and the Walker breakdown field are strongly influenced by the nonlocal damping.Comment: 10 pages, 6 figure

Blood coagulation parameters in rats with acute radiation syndrome receiving activated carbon as a preventive remedy

Radiation-induced coagulopathy (RIC) is one of the major causes of death during acute radiation syndrome (ARS). The aim of this study was to characterize the responses of the hemostasis system to ARS of a moderate level on the 1st and 9th days after irradiation. We aimed to identify molecular markers of the blood coagulation system that are most affected by ARS and to estimate the enterosorption effect on the development of irradiation-induced changes. Platelet aggregation rate, activated partial thromboplastin time (APTT) and fibrinogen concentration were determined by standard methods. Level of protein C (PC) was measured using chromogenic substrate S2366 (p-Glu-Pro-Arg-pNa) and Agkistrodon halys halys snake venom activating enzyme. Functionally inactive forms of prothrombin (FIFPs) were determined using two activators in parallel – thromboplastin or prothrombin activator from Echis multisqumatis venom. Rats of both irradiated groups had a higher risk of intravascular clotting in comparison to both control groups. Statistically significant shortening of clotting time in the APTT test (24 ± 4 s vs. 33 ± 5 s) and increased fibrinogen concentration (4.2 ± 0.6 mg/ml vs. 3.2 ± 0.3 mg/ml) were detected. Both parameters were normalized on the 9th day after irradiation. However the platelet count was decreased (0.3∙106 ± 0.05∙106 1/μl vs. 0.145∙106 ± 0.04∙106 1/μl) due to the impaired megakaryocytic function. The level of PC was decreased after X-ray irradiation (70 ± 10%) and partly restored on the 9th day after irradiation (87 ± 10%). Administration of activated carbon (AC) inhibited the drop in the PC concentration after X-ray irradiation (86 ± 15%) and accelerated its restoration on the 9th day (103 ± 14%). The statistically significant accumulation of FIFPs was detected in blood plasma of irradiated rats at the 1st and 9th days after irradiation. No FIFPs were found in any irradiated rat treated with AC. Characterization of the hemostasis system of rats that were exposed to a semilethal dose of X-rays allowed us to select parameters that can be used for monitoring of ARS development. Apart of from basic coagulation tests (APTT) and the measurement of platelet aggregation, fibrinogen and protein C level we can recommend the determination of FIFPs as a useful tool for estimation of the hemostasis response after irradiation with X-rays. This test indicates the intravascular thrombin generation and can help predict thrombotic complication or disseminated intravascular coagulation. Determination of FIFPs in blood plasma of irradiated rats allowed us to study the enterosorption effect on the development of irradiation-induced changes. It was shown that enterosorption with AC prevented accumulation of FIFPs which appears to be a newly discovered anti-thrombotic effect of therapy with AC. ARS influenced hemostasis by inducing thrombin generation (indicated by FIFPs generation), low-grade inflammation (indicated by PC concentration decrease) and thrombocytopenia. Enterosorption with AC minimizes inflammation and pro-coagulant processes caused by a moderate dose of X-ray irradiation. Accumulation of FIFPs can be assumed to be one of the most sensitive markers of the blood coagulation response to X-ray irradiation

On the constants in a Kato inequality for the Euler and Navier-Stokes equations

We continue an analysis, started in [10], of some issues related to the incompressible Euler or Navier-Stokes (NS) equations on a d-dimensional torus T^d. More specifically, we consider the quadratic term in these equations; this arises from the bilinear map (v, w) -> v . D w, where v, w : T^d -> R^d are two velocity fields. We derive upper and lower bounds for the constants in some inequalities related to the above bilinear map; these bounds hold, in particular, for the sharp constants G_{n d} = G_n in the Kato inequality | < v . D w | w >_n | <= G_n || v ||_n || w ||^2_n, where n in (d/2 + 1, + infinity) and v, w are in the Sobolev spaces H^n, H^(n+1) of zero mean, divergence free vector fields of orders n and n+1, respectively. As examples, the numerical values of our upper and lower bounds are reported for d=3 and some values of n. When combined with the results of [10] on another inequality, the results of the present paper can be employed to set up fully quantitative error estimates for the approximate solutions of the Euler/NS equations, or to derive quantitative bounds on the time of existence of the exact solutions with specified initial data; a sketch of this program is given.Comment: LaTeX, 39 pages. arXiv admin note: text overlap with arXiv:1007.4412 by the same authors, not concerning the main result

Tetracycline is a drug with direct cytotoxic action on the liver, and therefore it is widely used in pharmaceutical studies of therapeutic effectiveness of hepatoprotective preparations. The aim of the present work was to determine the biochemical indicators in blood plasma of rats with tetracycline-induced hepatosis and correction properties of milk phospholipids under tetracycline-induced hepatosis in rats. To achieve this, Wistar rats were administered 250 mg/kg of 4% tetracycline hydrochloride suspension once a day intragastrically. As the corrective therapy, 1% solution of BAS “FLP-MD” was administered in liposomal form based on milk phospholipids. Under modeled steatohepatitis, significant destructive changes were observed in the cell membranes of hepatocytes in experimental rats. It was confirmed by higher activity of transaminase (in particular, activity of АSТ increased 4 times, that of ALT 1.7 times and the AST/ALT ratio was increased 2.4 times in blood plasma). The synthesis of clotting factors in livers of animals with hepatosis was inhibited. The content of fibrinogen in blood plasma decreased by 21%, factor II (prothrombin) by 27.8%, Xa-factor by 27.9%, and protein C by 40.6%. The animals also had hypochromic anemia, azotemia and bilirubinemia. The calcium-phosphor metabolism and hyperkalemia were observed. The liposomal BAS “FLP-MD” based on milk phospholipids diminished harmful effects of tetracycline, in particular supporting blood coagulation factors’ level restoration, and also by the activity of transaminases. According to the results, it may be used in prophylactics and pharmaceutical correction of steatohepatitis
