Hidden Markov Model-Based Statistics Pattern Analysis for Multimode Process Monitoring: An Index-Switching Scheme
Multiple
operating modes pose a challenge for process monitoring
in industry. Although many monitoring approaches have achieved quite
success, most of them neglected the dependency of sampled data and
only dealt with samples in a separate fashion. This paper proposes
a sequential framework for multimode process monitoring with hidden
Markov model-based statistics pattern analysis (HMM-SPA). To begin
with, a hidden Markov model is trained on the basis of the historical
data. Statistics pattern analysis mixture models (SPAMM) are constructed
to characterize the distinctive statistical pattern of each operating
mode. Then, during online monitoring period, the mode vector is obtained
using the Viterbi algorithm, and the differential mode vector is calculated.
At last, the proposed method switches to an appropriate monitoring
index automatically, according to the norm of the differential mode
vector. The effectiveness of the proposed method is demonstrated by
a numerical simulation, a continuous stirred tank heater (CSTH) process,
and the Tennessee Eastman process
Valorization of an Electronic Waste-Derived Aluminosilicate: Surface Functionalization and Porous Structure Tuning
This
study involves the sustainable development of an ion exchange
material with ultrahigh heavy metal uptake capacity from a waste material,
originally destined for landfills. In this study, a promising thermo-alkaline
reaction has been employed to simultaneously alter the surface chemistry
and tune the textural properties of the waste-derived aluminosilicate.
The effects of several reaction variables on the formation of mesotunnels
in the structure of the material have been examined. Also, the surface
characterization of the functionalized aluminosilicate has demonstrated
that the functionalization reaction results in the cleavage of the
robust T–O–T′ linkages (where T and T′
= Si or Al) into T–O– moieties, counterbalanced
by an alkali metal cation, resulting in the coverage of the aluminosilicate
surface with active ion exchange sites. Comparison of the ion exchange
capacity of the functionalized aluminosilicate with those of the commercial
ion exchange resins has proven exceptionally higher heavy metal uptake
for the former. The ultrahigh heavy metal uptake of this material
is ascribed to the high concentration of developed counterbalancing
cations on the material surface. The attractiveness of this innovative
approach is manifested by the dual environmental benefit, i.e., sustainable
upcycling of a waste formerly deposited in landfills and its utilization
for heavy metal-laden wastewater treatment

ancient DNA of Chinese donkeys
Samples were collected from four archaeological sites in China. 17 samples (L1- L9 and L11-L18) were from the Yanjialiang site in Inner Mongolia, which dates to 800-600 yr BP, during the Yuan dynasty. Sample L10 was from the Jinsitai cave site in Inner Mongolia, which dates to 18,000-20,000 yr BP. L21 was from the Lantianxinjie site in Shaanxi province. The date of the sample was determined to be about 568 (+/-50) yr BP using C14 dating
