The title compound, C13H16O4, was isolated from culture extracts of the endophytic fungus Cephalosporium sp. The ester and ether substituents are twisted only slightly out of the benzene ring plane, making dihedral angles of 2.16 (2) and 3.63 (5)°, respectively. The non-H atoms of all three substituents are almost coplanar with the benzene ring, with an r.m.s. deviation of 0.0284 Å from the mean plane through all non-H atoms in the structure. A weak intramolecular O—H⋯O hydrogen bond contributes to this conformation. In the crystal structure, molecules are linked into a one-dimensional chain by intermolecular O—H⋯O hydrogen bonds. Weak non-classical C—H⋯π contacts are also observed in the structure

Community-based health services have risen as important online resources for resolving users health concerns. Despite the value, the gap between what health seekers with specific health needs and what busy physicians with specific attitudes and expertise can offer is being widened. To bridge this gap, we present a question routing scheme that is able to connect health seekers to the right physicians. In this scheme, we first bridge the expertise matching gap via a probabilistic fusion of the physician-expertise distribution and the expertise-question distribution. The distributions are calculated by hypergraph-based learning and kernel density estimation. We then measure physicians attitudes toward answering general questions from the perspectives of activity, responsibility, reputation, and willingness. At last, we adaptively fuse the expertise modeling and attitude modeling by considering the personal needs of the health seekers. Extensive experiments have been conducted on a real-world dataset to validate our proposed scheme

Seismic control of cross laminated timber (CLT) structure with shape memory alloy-based semi-active tuned mass damper (SMA-STMD)

Cross laminated timber (CLT) is becoming increasingly popular for constructing multiple-story buildings due to its alignment with Sustainable Development Goals of United Nations. However, such structures can be susceptible to excessive vibrations during earthquakes. While tuned mass dampers (TMDs) can be used to control these vibrations in CLT structures, their effectiveness can be reduced due to the lightweight nature of CLT and changes in its structural mass or deterioration of the wood. To address this issue, this paper proposes the use of shape memory alloy-based semi-active tuned mass dampers (SMA-STMDs) for controlling vibrations in CLT structures. This study includes the design and experimental testing of a full-scale, novel spring-pendulum combined SMA-STMD system, which utilises the mechanical properties of SMAs that change with temperature to achieve semi-active control. Finite element method simulations demonstrate that the proposed SMA-STMD system can effectively reduce structural seismic vibrations in CLT structure. By adjusting the SMA temperature, the SMA-STMD system can effectively address the issue of TMD system off-tuning caused by changes in the CLT structural properties. Overall, the proposed SMA-STMD system offers a promising solution for seismic control in CLT structures and has the potential to promote the development of CLT structures

    Robust Stereoscopic Crosstalk Prediction

We propose a new metric to predict perceived crosstalk using the original images rather than both the original and ghosted images. The proposed metrics are based on color information. First, we extract a disparity map, a color difference map, and a color contrast map from original image pairs. Then, we use those maps to construct two new metrics (Vdispc and Vdlogc). Metric Vdispc considers the effect of the disparity map and the color difference map, while Vdlogc addresses the influence of the color contrast map. The prediction performance is evaluated using various types of stereoscopic crosstalk images. By incorporating Vdispc and Vdlogc, the new metric Vpdlc is proposed to achieve a higher correlation with the perceived subject crosstalk scores. Experimental results show that the new metrics achieve better performance than previous methods, which indicate that color information is one key factor for crosstalk visible prediction. Furthermore, we construct a new data set to evaluate our new metrics

Enlarging Regional Disparities in Energy Intensity within China

As energy saving and emission reduction become a global action, the disparity in energy intensity between different regions is a new rising problem that stems a country's or region's energy-saving potential. Here we collect China's provincial panel data (1995–2017) of primary and final energy consumption to evaluate China's unequal and polarized regional pattern in energy intensity, decompose the inequality index into contributing components, and investigate possible driving factors behind the unequal pattern both regionally and structurally, for the first time. The results show that China's interprovince disparities in energy intensity increase and are exacerbated by the enlarging disparities in energy intensity between the least developed and most developed regions of China. The causes for this phenomenon are as follows: (i) rather loose regulatory measures on mitigating coal consumption; (ii) inferior energy processing technology in areas specializing in energy-intensive industries; (iii) increasing interregional energy fluxes embodied in trade; and (iv) separate jurisdictions at provincial administrative levels. These factors can synthetically result in unintended spillover to areas with inferior green technologies, suggesting an increasingly uneven distribution of energy-intensive and carbon-intensive industries and usage of clean energy. The results reveal the necessities of regional coordination and cooperation to achieve a green economy

Four new bisabolane-type sesquiterpenoids, aspergiterpenoid A (1), (−)-sydonol (2), (−)-sydonic acid (3), and (−)-5-(hydroxymethyl)-2-(2′,6′,6′-trimethyltetrahydro-2H- pyran-2-yl)phenol (4) together with one known fungal metabolite (5) were isolated from the fermentation broth of a marine-derived fungus Aspergillus sp., which was isolated from the sponge Xestospongia testudinaria collected from the South China Sea. Four of them (1–4) are optically active compounds. Their structures and absolute configurations were elucidated by using NMR spectroscopic techniques and mass spectrometric analysis, and by comparing their optical rotations with those related known analogues. Compounds 1–5 showed selective antibacterial activity against eight bacterial strains with the MIC (minimum inhibiting concentrations) values between 1.25 and 20.0 µM. The cytotoxic, antifouling, and acetylcholinesterase inhibitory activities of these compounds were also examined

Introduction: Studies have been conducted to investigate the association between rs10830963 of MTNR1B and the risk of gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM), but with inconclusive results. We aimed to clarify these controversies, especially with regard to the association in the Chinese population. Material and methods: A systemic literature reference search inclusive to August 12, 2016 yielded 35 articles, from which 11 studies met the inclusion criteria for the final meta-analysis, including 3889 patients with GDM and 6708 controls. Results: We found statistically significant associations between rs10830963 and GDM using odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) [GG genotype vs. CC genotype: OR = 1.70, 95% CI: 1.38–2.10; G allele vs C allele: OR = 1.27, 95% CI: 1.20–1.36; GG+CG vs. CC (dominant model): OR = 1.31, 95% CI: 1.20–1.44; GG vs CG+CC (recessive model): OR = 1.41, 95% CI: 1.26–1.58]. In subgroup analyses stratified by ethnicity, we also observed rs10830963 to be associated with significantly increased risk of GDM in all genetic models in the Chinese population. Conclusions: Our meta-analysis indicated that the rs10830963 polymorphism might serve as a risk factor of GDM in the Chinese population.
