Brenner tumor of the ovary — ultrasound features and clinical management of a rare ovarian tumor mimicking ovarian cancer

Objectives: To describe the ultrasound features of benign Brenner tumor in the background of complex clinical and histopathological pictures. Material and methods: We retrospectively identified patients with histologically confirmed benign Brenner tumor of the ovary who were treated in our institution in 2003–2016, and for whom complete imaging, clinical, perioperative and histopathological data were available in the database. Ultrasound findings were drawn from images and reports using terms and definitions of the International Ovarian Tumor Analysis group and pattern recognition description was applied. Results: Twenty-three patients were identified, most postmenopausal and asymptomatic. On ultrasound, 19/23 tumors were found unilaterally, 4/23 bilaterally, and 82% of tumors were detected in the left ovary. Most Brenner tumors (16/23) contained solid components and revealed no or minimal blood flow by subjective color score upon Doppler examination (19/23, 83%). Calcifications with shadowing were observed in 57% of all Brenner tumors and in 81% of tumors containing solid components. The complex appearance of the tumor misled the sonographers to describe the mass as malignant in 9 cases (39%), and frozen section was performed perioperatively. Surgery was performed via laparoscopy in 11 (48%) and via laparotomy in 12 (52%) cases. Conclusions: The complexity of the ultrasound picture, consisting of features like calcifications with acoustic shadowing, a poorly vascularized solid mass, and a left-sided localization could be signs of a benign Brenner tumor and could preoperatively help to differentiate between benign and malignant tumor

Free-Living Enterobacterium Pragia fontium 24613: Complete Genome Sequence and Metabolic Profiling

    Get PDF
Pragia fontium is one of the few species that belongs to the group of atypical hydrogen sulfide-producing enterobacteria. Unlike other members of this closely related group, P. fontium is not associated with any known host and has been reported as a free-living bacterium. Whole genome sequencing and metabolic fingerprinting confirmed the phylogenetic position of P. fontium inside the group of atypical H2S producers. Genomic data have revealed that P. fontium 24613 has limited pathogenic potential, although there are signs of genome decay. Although the lack of specific virulence factors and no association with a host species suggest a free-living style, the signs of genome decay suggest a process of adaptation to an as-yet-unknown host

Název: Bazální metabolismus a výživová intervence u osob s poraněním míchy Cíle: Hlavním cílem této práce byl empirický výzkum případových evaluačních studií (n = 3), kde jsme pomocí analýzy zkoumali: vztah energetického výdeje (bazálního metabolismu) a energetického příjmu u osob s diagnózou poranění míchy (p. m.). Sekundárním cílem bylo zjistit, zda změny v rozložení makroživin a hodnotě denního energetického příjmu povedou u jednotlivých probandů ke snížení tělesné hmotnosti a tělesného tuku. Hodnoty BM v naší pilotní studii byly u našich probandů (n = 15) nižší o 15 až 61 % a nekorelují s výškou p. m. The secondary objective was to determine whether the changes in macronutrient distribution and daily energy intake would result in a decrease in body weight and body fat for individual probands. The pilot study in our work was focused on the overview of variable basal metabolism (BM) values for people with SCI. Methods: In our work, we used the method of indirect calorimetry to measure BM and together with the value of working metabolism we determined in the nutritional intervention (n. i.) the ideal energy intake for our probands. We observed primarily measurable changes in the amount of fat and muscle tissue. Results: We have found that, in keeping with the prescribed n. i. rules, all probands achieved to reduce their body weight. The average body weight loss for probands was 0.29 ± 0.02 kg per week. BM values in our pilot study were 15 to 61% lower for our probands (n = 15) and did not correlate with the height of SCI. Title: Possibilities of using swimming pools in Prague for people the reduced physical ability. Objectives: The goal was to find information and mapping the most indoor public swimming pools in the capital city of Prague. Further mapping of the accessibility or inaccessibility for people with limited movement capabilities. Questionnaire survey based on the assumption that respondents are interested in maintaining your current physical fitness into old age through physical activities. Methods: Traffic information and location indoor swimming pools we have gained through search engines: www.seznam.cz, www.google.com. We searched under the slogan of public swimming pools in Prague. A personal visit and evaluation, we chose swimming pools, which are based on information received, they knew that they meet the requirements of Decree No. 174/1994 Coll. č.369/2001 and Sb, which provides general technical requirements ensuring the use of buildings by persons with reduced mobility (www.tzb-info.cz/t.py). For reasons of personal visits to swimming pools author of this thesis, which is reliant on the movement of a mechanical wheelchair. The remaining pools that do not meet the requirements of Decree No. 174/1994 Coll. č.369/2001 and no, we conserve through a telephone conversation with the operating swimming..
