    Mobile Phone Power Amplifier Linearity and Efficiency Enhancement Using Digital Predistortion

    The new generation mobile communication systems using spectrum efficient linear modulation schemes (QPSK,8PSK,QAM)need linear power amplifiers in the transmission path to have good ACPR and EVM values. Linearization methods can be used to increase the linearity of the power amplifiers (PA).However,it is not reasonable o use complicated,power consuming and high cost systems. This paper presents a digital predistortion implementation for WCDMA signals using an FPGA (Field Programmable Gate Array)as DSP and investigates the application of this system in handsets.The method applied requires minimum change in the conventional transmitter path configuration but considerable PAE improvement can be achieved

    Response of growing chicks to supplementation of low protein diets with leucine, valine and glycine-glutamic acid

    This experiment was conducted to determine the interaction effects that resulted from supplementation of low-protein diets with leucine (Leu), valine (Val), and glycine-glutamic acid (Gly-Glu) on growing broiler chicks from 11 to 24 days old. Two levels of digestible Leu (1.07 and 1.50%) and three levels of digestible Val (0.64, 0.74, and 0.84%) were investigated as a 2 × 3 factorial arrangement of treatments with 12 replicates. The diet with 1.07% digestible Leu and 0.84% digestible Val was supplemented with 0.34% Gly and 1.32% Glu as an additional treatment (T7). At 24 days old, 0.84% Val significantly improved feed conversion with 1.07% Leu, but 0.74% Val was sufficient with 1.50% Leu. The T7 diet further improved feed conversion. Increasing dietary Val from 0.64% to 0.74% significantly increased bone density and strength at the lower level of dietary Leu, while T7 significantly increased tibia breaking strength. There were significant Leu × Val interactions for villus height, crypt depth, and goblet cell numbers. Val at 0.84% maximized the development of the jejunum at the lower Leu level, while goblet cell number and crypt depth were impaired by increments of Val at the higher level of Leu. In conclusion, increasing the level of Val in low-protein grower diets significantly improved performance, bone and jejunum development of broilers, and its interaction with Leu was important. Therefore, these two amino acids (AAs) and the possibility of Gly-Glu fortification must be considered when formulating low-protein broiler diets.     Cataloged from PDF version of article.This paper assesses the effects of domestic soccer teams' performances against foreign rivals on stock market returns as well as on the return-volatility relationship. Data from Chile, Spain, Turkey and the United Kingdom support propositions that soccer teams results in international cups affect stock market returns and the return-volatility relationship. Evidence from Spain and the UK, soccer powerhouses, suggests that losses are associated with lower returns and higher risk aversion but evidence from Chile and Turkey, where soccer is the most important sport but teams are not as successful, reveals that wins are associated with higher returns and lower risk aversion. The empirical evidence presented here suggests that Besikta's win against foreign rivals in the Winner's Cup increases stock market returns. The same effect is not present for the other two big teams (Fenerbahce and Galatasaray).     The influence of post-fixation on visualising vimentin in the retina using immunofluorescence method

    Background: Post-fixation of sections is especially required for cryostat sections of fresh frozen tissues. Vimentin is an intermediate filament in both fibrillary and non-fibrillary form, expressed in Müller’s cells and astrocytes of the retina. Our aim was to determine the best post-fixation method for visualising vimentin in archival mouse eyes. Materials and methods: We used an archival mouse eye, slightly pre-fixed with paraformaldehyde and stored at –80°C for 4 years. We tried three fixatives (pa­raformaldehyde [PFA], alcohol/acetic acid [AAA] and methanol) for post-fixation of eye sections. Results: We showed that post-fixation alters the labelling properties of vimentin expressed in the retina. In the sections with no post-fixation, vimentin positivity was observed in and around the nuclei in non-fibrillary form. In PFA post-fixed sections, the vimentin in the retina was not observed as fibrils. Positivity was observed in the nuclei and in perinuclear regions of the cells. In AAA post-fixed sections, positive labelling was observed around the nuclei as fibrils. In methanol post-fixed sections, labelling was observed around the nuclei as fibrils. Conclusions: We conclude that post-fixation with AAA is more convenient for immunofluorescent labelling of vimentin in the retina for slightly PFA pre-fixed and long-term stored retina.     Effect of organic and inorganic fertilizers on yield and mineral content of onion (Allium cepa L.)

    This experiment was conducted to find the influence of both organic and mineral fertilizer on the quality and yield of onion (Allium cepa L.) and also on the macro and micro element contents of onion bulb. Cattle manure was applied at 0, 20, 40 and 60 t/ha. Nitrogen:phosphorus:potassium was applied at the recommended dose of 120:100:150 with half of the recommended rate of NPK. Yield, yield components and macro-micro element contents were measured. In the first year, bulb width and number of storage leaf were influenced significantly by the treatments. In the second year, applications affected onion yield significantly but bulb number, fleshy thickness, bulb weight, bulb height, number of storage leaf, number of shoot tip and number of dried leaves were not influenced statistically. In the first year, treatments influenced K content, but did not influence N, P, Ca, Na, Mg, Fe, Zn, Cu and Mn contents of the onion bulb. In the second year, the treatments influenced Na content, but did not influence the others.Key words: Onion, organic fertilizer, mineral fertilizer, yield, macro elements, micro elements

    Monofilament gill net and trammel net selectivity for the silver crucian carp (Carassius gibelio Bloch, 1782) in the Eğirdir Lake, Isparta-Turkey

    The aim of this study was to determine the selectivity of monofilament gillnets with different mesh size for silver crucian carp in Eğirdir Lake. In this study, it was investigated that the selectivity of monofilament gillnets with nominal mesh size (stretched) with 32, 40, 50, 60, 70, 80, 90 mm and trammel nets with 100, 110, 120, 130, 140, 150 mm for catching of silver crucian carp. Fieldwork was carried out in two different stations of Eğirdir Lake, between January-2010 and December-2010 with a three-month period and a total of 4 catching operations. Share Each Length class Catch Total (SELECT) method was used to determine the selectivity parameters. In the experiments 1562 silver crucian carp species in ranges of the length between 7.9 cm-37.0 cm were caught. As a result of calculations made according to the bi-modal model which gave the lowest deviation, for gill nets optimum length (cm) was found as 8.77, 10.96, 13.70, 16.44, 19.18, 21.92, 24.66 for 32, 40, 50, 60, 70, 80, 90 mm mesh size; for trammel nets optimum length (cm) was found to be 24.90, 27.39, 29.88, 32.37, 34.86 for 100, 110, 120, 130 and 140 mm mesh size monofilament trammel nets, respectively

    {CurveFusion}: {R}econstructing Thin Structures from {RGBD} Sequences

    We introduce CurveFusion, the first approach for high quality scanning of thin structures at interactive rates using a handheld RGBD camera. Thin filament-like structures are mathematically just 1D curves embedded in R^3, and integration-based reconstruction works best when depth sequences (from the thin structure parts) are fused using the object's (unknown) curve skeleton. Thus, using the complementary but noisy color and depth channels, CurveFusion first automatically identifies point samples on potential thin structures and groups them into bundles, each being a group of a fixed number of aligned consecutive frames. Then, the algorithm extracts per-bundle skeleton curves using L1 axes, and aligns and iteratively merges the L1 segments from all the bundles to form the final complete curve skeleton. Thus, unlike previous methods, reconstruction happens via integration along a data-dependent fusion primitive, i.e., the extracted curve skeleton. We extensively evaluate CurveFusion on a range of challenging examples, different scanner and calibration settings, and present high fidelity thin structure reconstructions previously just not possible from raw RGBD sequences
