Cell for electrolysis of water vapor
Electrolytic cells regenerate oxygen from the water vapor in the air of closed-loop life-support system and remove water vapor from air circulated through them. Water is converted into oxygen and hydrogen; the oxygen is returned to the air, the hydrogen is vented or used elsewhere
Angular rigidity in tetrahedral network glasses
A set of oxide and chalcogenide tetrahedral glasses are investigated using
molecular dynamics simulations. It is shown that unlike stoichiometric
selenides such as GeSe and SiSe, germania and silica display large
standard deviations in the associated bond angle distributions. Within
bond-bending constraints theory, this pattern can be interpreted as a
manifestation of {\it {broken}} (i.e. ineffective) oxygen bond-bending
constraints. The same analysis reveals that the changes in the Ge composition
affects mostly bending around germanium in binary Ge-Se systems, leaving
Se-centred bending almost unchanged. In contrast, the corresponding Se twisting
(quantified by the dihedral angle) depends on the Ge composition and is reduced
when the system becomes rigid. Our results establishes the atomic-scale
foundations of the phenomelogical rigidity theory, thereby profoundly extending
its significance and impact on the structural description of network glasses.Comment: 5 pages, 4 figure
Left to My Own Devices
I compose work from what may be considered debris. There is a history contained within these items that I want to redefine. Materials dictate and inform the direction of my work. The search and discovery of these objects is intuitive. Acquiring the piece(s) ties into my inspiration of its possible new function. My objective is to encourage others to notice the everyday and see the aesthetic value of these objects. Often they are organized into a grid. Whether taking an individual object or making multiples into a single image, I am altering the function of these items, reordering them and declaring them as artwork. My transformation of objects is intended to give them a new history

Ab Initio Carr-Parrinello Simulations of High Temperature GeO 2 : a comparison of the effects of plane waves cut-off and time step choice
Ab initio Carr-Parrinello simulations of high temperature GeO 2 have been carried out using a set of different parameters supposedly significantly affecting the results, as well as the computing times. A particular attention has been paid to the effects related with the plane waves cut-off using lower and higher values than commonly suggested. Comparisons of the results for the different values are presented and illustrated indicating that the results are essentially the same
Hydrogen Desorption from Mg Hydride: An Ab Initio Study
Hydrogen desorption from hydride matrix is still an open field of research. By means of accurate first-principle molecular dynamics (MD) simulations an Mg–MgH2 interface is selected, studied and characterized. Electronic structure calculations are used to determine the equilibrium properties and the behavior of the surfaces in terms of structural deformations and total energy considerations. Furthermore, extensive ab-initio molecular dynamics simulations are performed at several temperatures to characterize the desorption process at the interface. The numerical model successfully reproduces the experimental desorption temperature for the hydride
The Time Traveler's Guide to Semantic Web Research: Analyzing Fictitious Research Themes in the ESWC "Next 20 Years" Track
What will Semantic Web research focus on in 20 years from now? We asked this
question to the community and collected their visions in the "Next 20 years"
track of ESWC 2023. We challenged the participants to submit "future" research
papers, as if they were submitting to the 2043 edition of the conference. The
submissions - entirely fictitious - were expected to be full scientific papers,
with research questions, state of the art references, experimental results and
future work, with the goal to get an idea of the research agenda for the late
2040s and early 2050s. We received ten submissions, eight of which were
accepted for presentation at the conference, that mixed serious ideas of
potential future research themes and discussion topics with some fun and irony.
In this paper, we intend to provide a survey of those "science fiction"
papers, considering the emerging research themes and topics, analysing the
research methods applied by the authors in these very special submissions, and
investigating also the most fictitious parts (e.g., neologisms, fabricated
references). Our goal is twofold: on the one hand, we investigate what this
special track tells us about the Semantic Web community and, on the other hand,
we aim at getting some insights on future research practices and directions.Comment: 13 pages, 8 figures, 2 table
Instrumentation, control and data management for the MIST (Modular Integrated Utility System) Facility
An appendix providing the technical data required for computerized control and/or monitoring of selected MIST subsystems is presented. Specific computerized functions to be performed are as follows: (1) Control of the MIST heating load simulator and monitoring of the diesel engine generators' cooling system; (2) Control of the MIST heating load simulator and MIST heating subsystem including the heating load simulator; and (3) Control of the MIST air conditioning load simulator subsystem and the MIST air conditioning subsystem, including cold thermal storage and condenser water flows
