Zadanie pt. An Objective-Based Perspective on Assessment of Model-Supported Policy Processes

Simulation models, being in use for a long time in natural sciences and engineering domains, are diffusing to a wider context including policy analysis studies. The differences between the nature of the domain of application, as well as the increased variety of usage partially induced by this difference naturally imply new challenges to be overcome. One of these challenges is related to the assessment of the simulation-based outcomes in terms of their reliability and relevance in the policy context being studied. The importance of this assessment is twofold. First of all, it is all about conducting a high quality policy study with effective results. However, the quality of the study does not necessarily imply acceptance of the results by the clients and/or colleagues. This problem of policy analysts increases the importance of such an assessment; an effective assessment may induce the acceptance of the conclusions drawn from the study by the clients and/or colleagues. The main objective of this paper is to introduce an objective-based assessment perspective for simulation model-supported policy studies. As a first step towards such a goal, an objective-based classification of models is introduced. Based on that, we will discuss the importance of different aspects of the assessment for each type. In doing so, we aim to provide a structured discussion that may serve as a sort of methodological guideline to be used by policy analysts, and also by clients.Simulation, Validation, Model Assessment, Policy Analysis, Model Typology

Next Steps for Interventions Targeting Adolescent Dietary Behaviour

    Get PDF
Adolescents in many countries consume poor quality diets that include high intakes of sugary drinks and fast food and low intakes of vegetables. The aims of this Special Issue on adolescent dietary behaviour were to identify methods and approaches for successful interventions to improve diet quality in this age group and identify at risk subgroups that need particular attention. In total, 11 manuscripts were published in this Special Issue—three qualitative studies which included a systematic review, five cross-sectional studies and three quantitative evaluations of interventions. This Editorial discusses the contribution of the studies and provides suggestions to improve the success of future interventions in adolescents. It is important that adolescents are involved in the design of interventions to improve social and cultural acceptability and relevance. Interventions targeting schools or communities framed within a larger food system such as issues around climate change and the carbon footprint of food may improve engagement. Furthermore, targeting adolescents in areas of lower deprivation is a priority where diet quality is particularly poor. Potentially successful interventions also include environmental policies that impact on the cost and marketing of food and drinks, although evaluations of these were not included in this issue

Abstract Implementing Aerospace Quality Management system in an organization in theory will achieve on-time delivery, product conformity and acceptable price, which will result in Customer Satisfaction. However, system dynamics has to be considered for all systems, which determines and analyses feedback effects of components in the system. This study investigates these dynamic effects arising from various aspects that organizations are facing during implementation of the aerospace quality management system in Turkish defence and aerospace industry. Results achieved, and information collected through site activity is used to develop causal loop diagram. Requirements of the AS 9100 standard are interpreted to propose improvement opportunities. Causal Loop diagram is validated by using a scientific method

Decision Making for Company Acquisition by ELECTRE Method

Growth in economy together with globalization makes global companies and investment holdings more active in international markets. This activity involves a certain level of risk as payback period of investments are very critical and correct decision on selection of companies to be invested determines success of top management of investors and also creditors. In this article an investment groups local acquisition opportunities are evaluated by ELECTRE (Elimination et choix traduisant la realite) method. In this case there are four alternatives that are accepting same price and other contractual requirements. This paper lists six important criteria that have influence on local acquisition alternatives selection in Turkey according to references: Financial performance, accreditations and authorizations, Administrative and accounting, technical infrastructure, staff expertise and experience, customer portfolio. AHP (Analytical Hierarchy Process) have been used to evaluate the criteria and then ELECTRE method is used for ranking the alternatives
