In this work, I shall defend the importance of transcendental schemata for understanding the kind of things that Kant had in mind when he talked about geometric objects or representations. I will argue for the idea that in general, the transcendental schemata are a set of rules that allow the transformation of one figure into another, and also the representation of the properties that remain invariant under those rules, which are the genuine objects of cognition in a judgment. Likewise, I will show not only the relations that, in my opinion, the Kantian philosophy has with the geometry of his time, but also how such a philosophy can be used for understanding the late development of that discipline.
Density waves and star formation in grand design spirals
HII regions in the arms of spiral galaxies are indicators of recent
star-forming processes. They may have been caused by the passage of the density
wave or simply created by other means near the arms. The study of these regions
may give us clues to clarifying the controversy over the existence of a
triggering scenario, as proposed in the density wave theory. Using H
direct imaging, we characterize the HII regions from a sample of three grand
design galaxies: NGC5457, NGC628 and NGC6946. Broad band images in R and I were
used to determine the position of the arms. The HII regions found to be
associated with arms were selected for the study. The age and the star
formation rate of these HII regions was obtained using measures on the
H line. The distance between the current position of the selected HII
regions and the position they would have if they had been created in the centre
of the arm is calculated. A parameter, T, which measures whether a region was
created in the arm or in the disc, is defined. With the help of the T parameter
we determine that the majority of regions were formed some time after the
passage of the density wave, with the regions located `behind the arm' (in the
direction of the rotation of the galaxy) the zone they should have occupied had
they been formed in the centre of the arm. The presence of the large number of
regions created after the passage of the arm may be explained by the effect of
the density wave, which helps to create the star-forming regions after its
passage. There is clear evidence of triggering for NGC5457 and a co-rotation
radius is proposed. A more modest triggering seems to exist for NGC628 and non
significant evidence of triggering are found for NGC6946.Comment: 10 pages, 20 figures, accepted for publication in A&
Application development for managing and monitoring a data centre
This document is a Bachelor Thesis report. In this document we can find an analysis about the problem, a proposed solution and an evaluation about a coded prototype. The name of the project is Application Development for Managing and Monitoring a Data Centre. This project is an application for easing a common task in Lab of Computer Science and Engineering Department. The main problem of managing the Data Centre is the need of being physically present there; for instance, to take note of room temperature, a person has to go physically there to check out a thermometer. Moreover, maintaining an inventory can become a hard problem because many people, from different departments, have their machines and equipment there in the centre; there are two options then for maintaining an inventory: - Ask to every department what machines have them in the centre. - Go inside the centre and count the machines one by one. The usage of a web application can solve those problems. Since web applications are queried from a web browser; and nowadays everybody has a web browser integrated in his/her Operating System; we can query the status of the centre from our office, without having to being physically there. An important advantage also is the possibility of connecting sensors and other applications, so we can enhance our application with already implemented features; for instance, connecting our application to an LDAP login server. Moreover, since this is a web application, there is no need of a client installation; only a web browser is required. In our case, it must have support for HTML 5 and CSS 3. In addition, web technologies nowadays have many libraries for almost any task; for example, to display data in charts. With this feature, we can visualize historical or statistical data.
Then, a number of cultural policies ensuring access to culture as a collective good began to develop within everybody’s reach. In the city of Barcelona, these cultural policies came up under the protection of the development model that allowed for the urban transformation of the city. This context was a breeding ground for the recovery of both public space and proximity cultural facilities, as claimed by the citizens. Proximity cultural facilities play a fundamental role in the system of public spaces at neighbourhood level. The approach to this hypothesis from the specific perspective of the Poble Sec neighbourhood and through the study of Francesc Boix Library, Albareda Cultural Centre and El Sortidor Civic Cen-tre allows us to redefine the fitting of this typology of equipment in the area, not only according to the urban fabric, but also in accordance with the social dynamics that it can create
Cardiovascular diseases are the leading cause of death worldwide, specifically
coronary heart disease, also known as ischemic heart disease, is the leading cause of
cardiovascular death. Within coronary heart disease, acute myocardial infarction is the
most frequent pathology, therefore, the cardiac rehabilitation program designed will
focus on this type of patients. Cardiac rehabilitation programs is a tool used to help
patients recover their physical and mental capacities after suffering a cardiac event, this
is achieved through an individualized plan carried out by a multidisciplinary team of
professionals. The main objective of this program is to reduce the number of deaths of
cardiovascular origin, as well as to improve the quality of life of patients, reduce hospital
readmissions and cardiac recurrences. To this end, a cardiac rehabilitation program will
be developed focusing on the role of nursing, developing a series of interventions that
will respond to the needs of the patient to cover their health problems arising from the
acute myocardial infarction they have suffered. These interventions will be carried out
through group sessions and individual consultations given by the nursing staff in which
different topics such as a heart-healthy diet, toxic habits, pharmacological education, the
importance of physical activity, among others, will be addressed to achieve a change in
the patient's lifestyle, as well as an improvement in their health. The expected results of
this programs are an improvement in their quality of life, a greater tolerance to effort, a
greater abandonment of habits such as smoking or alcohol, an increase in their return to
work, as well as a significant reduction in mortality and comorbidity
