Confinement of neutral fermions by a pseudoscalar double-step potential in (1+1) dimensions

The problem of confinement of neutral fermions in two-dimensional space-time is approached with a pseudoscalar double-step potential in the Dirac equation. Bound-state solutions are obtained when the coupling is of sufficient intensity. The confinement is made plausible by arguments based on effective mass and anomalous magnetic interaction.Comment: 8 pages, 1 figur

Corrupción empresarial: relevancia penal de la infracción de los deberes de los administradores de sociedades regulados en nuevo código mercantil

El nuevo Código Mercantil ha definido y concretado las diferentes manifestaciones en las que se descomponen los distintos deberes de los administradores de las sociedades mercantiles, en la línea ya iniciada por la reforma de la Ley de Sociedades de Capital. Al tiempo, la legislación penal ha caminado de forma paralela, incrementándose muy notablemente en los últimos tiempos los delitos relativos al mundo de la actividad empresarial y, muy especialmente, a los delitos cometidos por administradores y directivos de empresas, precisamente, mediante la infracción de los deberes que concreta el nuevo Código Mercantil. Trabajando en redes internacionales: Puentes transatlánticos en investigación en comunicación y cultura científica

En este artículo se describe cómo se gestaron a lo largo del siglo XX las redes académicas entre Europa y América en un ámbito de especial interés y relevancia internacional como es la comunicación de la ciencia. Durante las dos últimas décadas, los estudios de una y otra orilla han encontrado lugares de convergencia con la publicación de trabajos internacionales en comunicación de la ciencia donde la presencia de investigadores europeos y americanos ha sido crucial para el desarrollo y la expansión de las investigaciones. En el ámbito de los estudios de percepción social de la ciencia podemos destacar la publicación del Estándar Iberoamericano de Cultura Científica, en 2009, que consiguió que siete ciudades iberoamericanas aplicaran el mismo cuestionario para valorar la cultura científica; en el ámbito de la investigación en comunicación de la ciencia podemos incluir la red internacional de Public Communication of Science and Technology (PCST); y en divulgación científica podemos destacar todas las acciones de promoción de la cultura científica que se han generado desde las agencias y fundaciones públicas institucionales, como es el caso de la Fundación Española para la Ciencia y la Tecnología (FECYT). Load-independent characterization of trade-off fronts for operational amplifiers

Abstract—In emerging design methodologies for analog integrated circuits, the use of performance trade-off fronts, also known as Pareto fronts, is a keystone to overcome the limitations of the traditional top-down methodologies. However, most techniques reported so far to generate the front neglect the effect of the surrounding circuitry (such as the output load impedance) on the Pareto-front, thereby making it only valid for the context where the front was generated. This strongly limits its use in hierarchical analog synthesis because of the heavy dependence of key performances on the surrounding circuitry, but, more importantly, because this circuitry remains unknown until the synthesis process. We will address this problem by proposing a new technique to generate the trade-off fronts that is independent of the load that the circuit has to drive. This idea is exploited for a commonly used circuit, the operational amplifier, and experimental results show that this is a promising approach to solve the issue

Applying A Methodology For Educating Students With Special Needs: A Case Study

The introduction of innovative educational technologies opens up new ways of interacting with students. We propose to exploit this potential to help in the education of children with special needs. We analyze the state of the art of tools supporting the teaching process, focusing on the omissions of existing research. We propose a new framework to help throughout the whole teaching process and describe its application to Proyecto Aprender (Learn Project), an educational resource targeting children with learning difficulties. Tobacco use in the third trimester of pregnancy and its relationship to birth weight. A prospective study in Spain

Background Few studies have been carried out in Spain examining the use of tobacco amongst expectant mothers and its effect on birth weight. Aims To observe the proportion of expectant mothers who smoke during their pregnancy, and the impact of tobacco consumption on maternal and birth weight. We also aimed to identify the trimester of pregnancy in which tobacco use produced the greatest reduction in birth weight. Methods Prospective observational study in Spain. A random sampling strategy was used to select health centres and participant women. A total of 137 individuals were enrolled in the study. Exposure to tobacco was measured through a self-reported questionnaire. Regressions were performed to obtain a predictive model for birth weight related to smoking. Findings Overall, 35% of study participants were smokers during the pre-gestational period (27% in the first trimester, 21.9% in the second and 21.2% in the third). 38.7% of smoking cessation attempts took place in the third-trimester. Pregnant women who smoked up to the third trimester had a higher risk of giving birth to a baby under 3000 g, compared to non-smokers (OR = 5.94, CI 95%: 1.94–18.16). Each additional unit of tobacco consumed daily in the 3rd trimester led to a 32 g reduction in birth weight. Conclusion An important proportion of pregnant women in Spain smoke during pregnancy. Pregnant women exposed to tobacco have newborns with lower birth weight. Smoking during the 3rd trimester of pregnancy is associated with the greatest risk of lower birth weight
