El uso del vino puede hacer referencia a muchos ámbitos, como son: uso culinario, celebraciones, actos religiosos, medicina, etc. Desde hace varios años se ha experimentado un crecimiento de su demanda, no solo en los países donde más se produce, sino que también en países cuyo consumo no ha sido un factor culturar. Esto presenta oportunidades para las empresas, sobre todo para las españolas especializadas en producción vitinícola.     The alkaline transition of cytochrome c revisited: Effects of electrostatic interactions and tyrosine nitration on the reaction dynamics

    Here we investigated the effect of electrostatic interactions and of protein tyrosine nitration of mammalian cytochrome c on the dynamics of the so-called alkaline transition, a pH- and redox-triggered conformational change that implies replacement of the axial ligand Met80 by a Lys residue. Using a combination of electrochemical, time-resolved SERR spectroelectrochemical experiments and molecular dynamics simulations we showed that in all cases the reaction can be described in terms of a two steps minimal reaction mechanism consisting of deprotonation of a triggering group followed by ligand exchange. The pK a alk values of the transition are strongly modulated by these perturbations, with a drastic downshift upon nitration and an important upshift upon establishing electrostatic interactions with a negatively charged model surface. The value of pK a alk is determined by the interplay between the acidity of a triggering group and the kinetic constants for the forward and backward ligand exchange processes. Nitration of Tyr74 results in a change of the triggering group from Lys73 in WT Cyt to Tyr74 in the nitrated protein, which dominates the pK a alk downshift towards physiological values. Electrostatic interactions, on the other hand, result in strong acceleration of the backward ligand exchange reaction, which dominates the pK a alk upshift. The different physicochemical conditions found here to influence pK a alk are expected to vary depending on cellular conditions and subcellular localization of the protein, thus determining the existence of alternative conformations of Cyt in vivo.Fil: Oviedo Rouco, Santiago.     Laser Surface Microstructuring of Biocompatible Materials Using a Microlens Array and the Talbot Effect: Evaluation of the Cell Adhesion

    A laser based technique for microstructuring titanium and tantalum substrates using the Talbot effect and an array of microlenses is presented. By using this hybrid technique; we are able to generate different patterns and geometries on the top surfaces of the biomaterials. The Talbot effect allows us to rapidly make microstructuring, solving the common problems of using microlenses for multipatterning; where the material expelled during the ablation of biomaterials damages the microlens. The Talbot effect permits us to increase the working distance and reduce the period of the patterns.     Convertidores electrónicos de potencia para alimentar LEDs de iluminación desde tensiones muy bajas

    XXIV Seminario Anual de Automática, Electrónica Industrial e Instrumentación 2017 (SAAEI'17), Valencia (España)Este artículo describe y valora distintas alternativas para alimentar diodos emisores de luz (LEDs) blancos, de los usados habitualmente para iluminación, desde tensiones mucho menores que la tensión de codo del propio dispositivo emisor de luz. En resumen, se va a estudiar cómo alimentar un LED con tensión de codo entorno de los 3 V desde una única celda de batería de tensión comprendida entre 1,2 y 2 V. En el artículo se valorarán y compararán dos tipos de convertidores para esta aplicación: convertidores CC/CC estándar con diodo Schottky (en vez de diodo PN) y una nueva familia de convertidores CC/CC expresamente pensados para ser usados con LEDs en los que el diodo de la topología es el propio LED.     University and diversity: disabled students’ educational needs

    Desde hace aproximadamente una década se ha constatado un aumento en el número de alumnado con discapacidad matriculado en las universidades españolas. Esta presencia creciente ha generado un interés por investigar la situación de este alumnado, especialmente en lo relativo a las dificultades que pudiera tener tanto en el acceso como en el desarrollo de los aprendizajes, en una institución que no ha tenido previsto mecanismos de accesibilidad a los estudios como en el resto de los niveles educativos. En este artículo se ofrecen datos relativos a la opinión que el profesorado de la Universidad de La Laguna tiene acerca de la atención educativa al alumnado con discapacidad. Se presentan los resultados obtenidos del análisis de 166 cuestionarios on-line respondidos por el profesorado de esta Universidad.For approximately a decade an increase has been stated in the number of disability students registered in the Spanish Universities. This increasing presence has generated an interest to investigate the situation of this students, specially in the relative thing to the difficulties that they could have both in the access and in the development of the learning’s, in an institution that has not foreseen mechanisms of accessibility to the studies like in the rest of the educational levels. In this article there offers information relative to the opinion that the professorship of the La Laguna University has over of the educational attention to the disability student’s. It presents the results obtained of the analysis of 166 questionnaires on-line answered by the professorship of this University

    Estimating cooling production and monitoring efficiency in chillers using a soft sensor

    [EN] Intensive use of heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems in buildings entails monitoring their efficiency. Moreover, cooling systems are key facilities in large buildings and can account up to 44% of the energy consumption. Therefore, monitoring efficiency in chillers is crucial and, for that reason, a sensor to measure the cooling production is required. However, manufacturers rarely install it in the chiller due to its cost. In this paper, we propose a methodology to build a soft sensor that provides an estimation of cooling production and enables monitoring the chiller efficiency. The proposed soft sensor uses independent variables (internal states of the chiller and electric power) and can take advantage of current or past observations of those independent variables. Six methods (from linear approaches to deep learning ones) are proposed to develop the model for the soft sensor, capturing relevant features on the structure of data (involving time, thermodynamic and electric variables and the number of refrigeration circuits). Our approach has been tested on two different chillers (large water-cooled and smaller air-cooled chillers) installed at the Hospital of León. The methods to implement the soft sensor are assessed according to three metrics (MAE, MAPE and R²). In addition to the comparison of methods, the results also include the estimation of cooling production (and the comparison of the true and estimated values) and monitoring the COP indicator for a period of several days and for both chillers.SIMinisterio de Ciencia e InnovaciónEuropean Regional Development Fun

    Usefulness of Artificial Neural Networks in the Diagnosis and Treatment of Sleep Apnea-Hypopnea Syndrome

    Sleep apnea-hypopnea syndrome (SAHS) is a chronic and highly prevalent disease considered a major health problem in industrialized countries. The gold standard diagnostic methodology is in-laboratory nocturnal polysomnography (PSG), which is complex, costly, and time consuming. In order to overcome these limitations, novel and simplified diagnostic alternatives are demanded. Sleep scientists carried out an exhaustive research during the last decades focused on the design of automated expert systems derived from artificial intelligence able to help sleep specialists in their daily practice. Among automated pattern recognition techniques, artificial neural networks (ANNs) have demonstrated to be efficient and accurate algorithms in order to implement computer-aided diagnosis systems aimed at assisting physicians in the management of SAHS. In this regard, several applications of ANNs have been developed, such as classification of patients suspected of suffering from SAHS, apnea-hypopnea index (AHI) prediction, detection and quantification of respiratory events, apneic events classification, automated sleep staging and arousal detection, alertness monitoring systems, and airflow pressure optimization in positive airway pressure (PAP) devices to fit patients’ needs.     Virtual sensor for probabilistic estimation of the evaporation in cooling towers

    16th AIAI (Artificial Intelligence Applications and Innovations) Joint International Conference[EN] Global natural resources are affected by several causes such as climate change effects or unsustainable management strategies. Indeed, the use of water has been intensified in urban buildings because of the proliferation of HVAC (Heating, Ventilating and Air Conditioning) systems, for instance cooling towers, where an abundant amount of water is lost during the evaporation process. The measurement of the evaporation is challenging, so a virtual sensor could be used to tackle it, allowing to monitor and manage the water consumption in different scenarios and helping to plan efficient operation strategies which reduce the use of fresh water. In this paper, a deep generative approach is proposed for developing a virtual sensor for probabilistic estimation of the evaporation in cooling towers, given the surrounding conditions. It is based on a conditioned generative adversarial network (cGAN), whose generator includes a recurrent layer (GRU) that models the temporal information by learning from previous states and a densely connected layer that models the fluctuations of the conditions. The proposed deep generative approach is not only able to yield the estimated evaporation value but it also produces a whole probability distribution, considering any operating scenario, so it is possible to know the confidence interval in which the estimation is likely found. This deep generative approach is assessed and compared with other probabilistic state-of-the-art methods according to several metrics (CRPS, MAPE and RMSE) and using real data from a cooling tower located at a hospital building. The results obtained show that, to the best of our knowledge, our proposal is a noteworthy method to develop a virtual sensor, taking as input the current and last samples, since it provides an accurate estimation of the evaporation with wide enough confidence intervals, contemplating potential fluctuations of the conditions.S

    Global evaluation of the chemical hazard of recycled tire crumb rubber employed on worldwide synthetic turf football pitches

    Social and environmental concern about the use of crumb rubber from end-of-life car tires in the construction of different sport and recreational facilities is increasing due to the presence of hazardous compounds. The aim of this research was the assessment of 42 organic chemicals, including polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), phthalates, adipates, antioxidants and vulcanisation agents in a large number of infill samples (91) from synthetic turf football pitches of diverse characteristics and geographical origin. Samples were taken worldwide, in 17 countries on 4 continents, to show the global dimension of this problem. Ultrasound assisted extraction was employed to extract the target compounds, followed by gas chromatography coupled to tandem-mass spectrometry (UAE-GC–MS/MS). Seventy-eight crumb rubber samples as well as thirteen samples of alternatives materials, such as cork granulates, thermoplastic elastomers and coconut fibre, were analyzed. The results highlight the presence of all target PAH in most rubber samples at concentrations up to μg g−1, including the eight ECHA (European Chemicals Agency) PAHs considered as carcinogenic, and anthracene (ANC), pyrene (PYR) and benzo[ghi]perylene (B[ghi]P), catalogued as substances of very high concern (SVHC). Endocrine disruptors such as some plasticizers (mainly phthalates), and other compounds like benzothiazole (BTZ) and 2-mercaptobenzothiazole (MBTZ) were found reaching the mg g−1 level. This confirms the presence of the hazardous substances in the recycled crumb rubber samples collected all around the world. Three crumb rubber samples exceeded the limit of 20 μg g−1 for the sum of the eight ECHA PAHs. Regarding the chemical composition of other infill alternatives, cork appears to be adequate, while the thermoplastic elastomers contained high levels of some plasticizers. In addition, the plastic infill as well as the crumb rubber both are microplastics.     Design of Platforms for Experimentation in Industrial Cybersecurity

    [EN] The connectivity advances in industrial control systems have also increased the possibility of cyberattacks in industry. Thus, security becomes crucial in critical infrastructures, whose services are considered essential in fields such as manufacturing, energy or public health. Although theoretical and formal approaches are often proposed to advance in the field of industrial cybersecurity, more experimental efforts in realistic scenarios are needed to understand the impact of incidents, assess security technologies or provide training. In this paper, an approach for cybersecurity experimentation is proposed for several industrial areas. Aiming at a high degree of flexibility, the Critical Infrastructure Cybersecurity Laboratory (CICLab) is designed to integrate both real physical equipment with computing and networking infrastructure. It provides a platform for performing security experiments in control systems of diverse sectors such as industry, energy and building management. They allow researchers to perform security experimentation in realistic environments using a wide variety of technologies that are common in these control systems, as well as in the protection or security analysis of industrial networks.
