    Taxonomic and Serological Researches on the Phymaturus patagonicus Complex

    Five subspecies of Phymaturus from Argentine Patagonia are identified: P. patagonicus patagonicus Koslowsky, P. patagonicus indistinctus subsp. nov., both from Chubut, P. patagonicus somuncurensis, subsp. nov. from Rio Negro, P. patagonicus zapaiensis subsp. nov. from Neuquén, and P. patagonicus payuniae subsp. nov. from Southern Mendoza. Their morphological and ecological features are described according to their widespread but isolated distribution.     Estudio comparativo del fraccionamiento de los carbohidratos de la miel mediante tratamiento con carbón activo y levaduras para la detección de adulteraciones

    Recientemente se ha descrito la utilidad de los anhídridos de difructosa (DFAs) como buenos marcadores para la detección de adulteraciones de miel con jarabes de alto contenido en fructosa (HFCS) y de azúcar invertido (IS). Sin embargo, para la detección de estos compuestos es necesario realizar un fraccionamiento previo de los carbohidratos de estas muestras, dado que la alta concentración de monosacáridos (glucosa y fructosa) presentes en la miel dificulta el análisis de los compuestos minoritarios. Por tanto, el objetivo de este trabajo se basó en la comparación de un tratamiento con levaduras propuesto con anterioridad y un fraccionamiento con carbónactivo para eliminar la fracción de monosacáridos,concentrando así los compuestos minoritarios de la miely en concreto los DFAs presentes en muestras adulteradas.Se llevó a cabo la optimización de dichos métodos para conseguir el mayor enriquecimiento en DFAs comprobándose que ambos son útiles para la detección de adulteraciones de miel de hasta un 5% de HFCS e IS

    In this work we present spectroscopic observations centered in the spectral lines most widely used as optical indicators of chromospheric activity (Hα, Hβ, CaII H & K, and HeI D_3) in a sample of F, G, K and M chromospherically inactive stars. The spectra have been obtained with the aim of providing a library of high and mid-resolution spectra to be used in the application of the spectral subtraction technique to obtain the active-chromosphere contribution to these lines in chromospherically active single and binary stars. This library can also be used for spectral classification purposes. A digital version with all the spectra is available via ftp and the World Wide Web (WWW) in both ASCII and FITS formats

    Approaches based on LAMDA control applied to regulate HVAC systems for buildings

    The control of HVAC (Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning) systems is usually complex because its modeling in certain cases is difficult, since these systems have a large number of components. Heat exchangers, chillers, valves, sensors, and actuators, increase the non-linear characteristics of the complete model, so it is necessary to propose new control strategies that can handle the uncertainty generated by all these elements working together. On the other hand, artificial intelligence is a powerful tool that allows improving the performance of control systems with inexact models and uncertainties. This paper presents new control alternatives for HVAC systems based on LAMDA (Learning Algorithm for Multivariable Data Analysis). This algorithm has been used in the field of machine learning, however, we have taken advantage of its learning characteristics to propose different types of intelligent controllers to improve the performance of the overall control system in tasks of regulation and reference change. In order to perform a comparative analysis in the context of HVAC systems, conventional methods such as PID and Fuzzy-PID are compared with LAMDA-PID, LAMDA-Sliding Mode Control based on Z-numbers (ZLSMC), and Adaptive LAMDA. Specifically, two HVAC systems are implemented by simulations to evaluate the proposals: an MIMO (Multiple-input Multiple-output) HVAC system and an HVAC system with dead time, which are used to compare the results qualitatively and quantitatively.     Bright fireballs associated with the potentially hazardous asteroid 2007LQ19

    We analyse here two very bright fireballs produced by the ablation in the atmosphere of two large meteoroids in 2009 and 2010. These slow-moving and deep-penetrating events were observed over Spain in the framework of our Spanish Fireball Network continuous meteor monitoring campaign. The analysis of the emission spectrum imaged for one of these fireballs has provided the first clues about the chemical nature of the progenitor meteoroids. The orbital parameters of these particles suggest a likely association with the recently identified July ρ-Herculid (JRH) meteoroid stream. In addition, considerations about the likely parent body of this stream are also made on the basis of orbital dissimilarity criteria. This orbital analysis reveals that both meteoroids and PHA 2007LQ19 exhibit a similar evolution during a time period of almost 8000 years, which suggests that either this near Earth object (NEO) is the potential parent of these particles or that this NEO and both meteoroids had a common progenitor in the past.España, Ministerio de Ciencia e Innovación YA2011-26522Junta de Andalucía P09-FQM-455

    Uvbyβ photometry of active-chromosphere binaries .1. The system TZ Coronae Borealis

    Simultaneous uvby and Hβ photometry of thee noneclipsing double-lined spectroscopic binary TZ CrB, an active binary system with almost unevolved components, is presented. A small amplitude distortion wave (0.012 mag in y) has been found with maximum light at phase ∽0.75. No variations in color or the βindex during the orbital cycle have been detected within the precision of the observations. The resulting color indices in the standard uvby system allow the estimation of some basic stellar parameters, such as the average effective temperature ∽6000 K and the stellar radii of the component stars ∽1.1 R_⨀. These results, together with available spectroscopic data, permit a consistent picture for this interesting binary to be obtained

    The incompatible interaction between plant and pathogen is often determined by the hypersensitive reaction (HR). This response is associated with accumulation of reactive oxygen species (ROS), which results in adverse growth conditions for pathogens. Two major mechanisms involving either NADPH oxidases or peroxidases have been proposed for generation of ROS. Peroxidases (PER, EC 1.11.1.7), present in all land plants, are members of a large multigenic family with high number of isoforms involved in a broad range of physiological processes. PER genes, which are expressed in nematode feeding sites, have been identified in several plant species (Zacheo et al. 1997). A strong correlation between HR and PER activities at four and seven days post nematode infection, was detected in roots of wheat lines carrying Cre2, Cre5 (from Ae. ventricosa) or Cre7 (from Ae. triuncialis) Heterodera avenae resistance genes (Andrés et al. 2001; Montes et al. 2003, 2004). We have studied changes in root of peroxidase mRNAs levels after infection by H. avenae of a wheat/Ae. ven¬tricosa introgression line (H-93-8) carrying Cre2 (Delibes et al. 1993).     Antitumor activity of copper(II) complexes with Schiff bases derived from N′-tosylbenzene-1,2-diamine

    The electrochemical oxidation of anodic metal copper in a solution of the ligands N-[(5-tert-butyl-2-hydroxyphenyl)methylidine]-N′-tosylbenzene-1,2-diamine [H2L1] and N-[(3,5-di-tert-butyl-2-hydroxyphenyl)methylidine]-N′-tosylbenzene-1,2-diamine, [H2L2] afforded homoleptic [CuL] compounds or solvate [CuLS] complexes. The addition to the electrochemical cell of coligands (L') such as 2,2′-bipyridine (2-bpy), 4,4′-bipyridine(4-bpy) or 1,10-phenanthroline (phen) allowed the synthesis, in one step, of heteroleptic [CuLL'] compounds, namely [CuL1(H2O)] (1), [CuL1(2,2′-bpy)]⋅CH3CN (2), [CuL1(phen)]·H2O (3), [Cu2L12(4,4′-bpy)] (4), [CuL2(CH3OH)] (5), [CuL2(2,2′-bpy)] (6), [CuL2(phen)] (7) and [Cu2L22(4,4′-bpy)] (8). The crystal structures of both ligands, H2L1, H2L2, and those of the complexes (2), (4), (5), (6) and (7) have been determined by X-ray diffraction techniques. Coordination polyhedron around metal atom is square planar for [CuL2(CH3OH)] (5) and [Cu2L12(4,4′-bpy)] (4) and square pyramid for the other complexes with additional chelating ligands. The cytotoxic activity of this new series of copper(II) complexes against the SH-SY5Y neuroblastoma cell line and U87-MG and U373-MG glioblastoma cell lines has been investigated. Most of the test compounds showed higher activity than cisplatin in the three cell lines. Among this series, compound [CuL1(phen)] (3) displayed the highest activity with IC50 equal to 1.77 μM on SH-SY5Y whereas compound [Cu2L12(4.4′-bpy)] (4) resulted the most potent compounds on U87 MG and U373 MG glioblastoma cell lines.
