A Quantum Theoretical Approach to Hard X-ray Time-Domain Interferometry
In this work we present a quantum theoretical account of hard x-ray time-domain interferometry, which is an experimental technique to probe the correlations in time between particles in a condensed matter system via their interaction with hard x-radiation.
This technique has so far been successfully applied to classical systems. The recent proposal of using the same technique on systems for which quantum effects play a major role requires a detailed analysis due to the dramatic effect that the measurement act can have on the dynamics of a quantum system. In particular, trying to access the correlations in a quantum system via direct measurements would give only incomplete information about
them.
Treating both the probed matter system and the probing radiation as quantum systems which interact weakly, we show that in time-domain interferometry the radiation does not affect the system in the above sense, such that it can access the particles correlations in time fully. Furthermore, in view of some recent advancements in x-ray control, it is proposed that time-domain interferometry can be used for the reconstruction of particles correlations and for detecting the presence of quantum effects in the probed system

Spatially correlated mixed-effects models for the analysis of soil water retention.
The knowledge of hydraulic properties of soil is necessary in many environmental applications and land planning. These properties, however, are difficult to determine and often they demand high labour costs, for which the tendency is to estimate them on the base of other more easily measurable or already available soil data. The level of detail reached using this method is not always satisfactory for some applications to basin scale, where variables to measure the morphologic property of the landscape are required. This study is proposed to characterize the spatial distribution of the water retention of a soil on wide scale using data relative to the physical, topographical and chemical characteristics of the soil within a model based approach.Linear Mixed Models, Spatial Continuous Autoregressive Correlation Structure, Soil Water Retention.
Probing Quantum Dynamical Couple Correlations with Time-Domain Interferometry
Time domain interferometry is a promising method to characterizes spatial and
temporal correlations at x-ray energies, via the so-called intermediate
scattering function and the related dynamical couple correlations. However, so
far, it has only been analyzed for classical target systems. Here, we provide a
quantum analysis, and suggest a scheme which allows to access quantum dynamical
correlations. We further show how TDI can be used to exclude classical models
for the target dynamics, and illustrate our results using a single particle in
a double well potential
The metagenomic approach and causality in virology
Nowadays, the metagenomic approach has been a very important tool in the discovery of new viruses in environmental and biological samples. Here we discuss how these discoveries may help to elucidate the etiology of diseases and the criteria necessary to establish a causal association between a virus and a disease
As metodologias usadas
resÃduos no campus.
The constant population growth, together with economic development at a global
level, that causes an increasing generation of waste for the planet. This aspect
develops concerns with the environment worldwide, therefore, the United Nations
Organization, in the 2030 Agenda, established goals to be fulfilled by the
document Sustainable Development Goals. Proper Waste Management, with a
view to sustainability, contributes to several of these established goals. The
objective of this work was to compare the Waste Management between two
Higher Education Institutions (HEI), the Universidade Tecnológica Federal do
Paraná – campus Campo Mourão (UTFPR-CM) and the Instituto Politécnico de
Bragança (IPB), with the purpose of share strategies in this area to implement a
Waste Management System at the IPB - campus Santa Apolónia, which does not
have an established document yet. The methodologies used in this work were:
the application of online surveys to the academic community of the HEI; and
conducting an Environmental Audit at the portuguese institution. The database
obtained by the applied surveys were selected using a cut-off criteria, and
subsequently analyzed statistically by the IBM SPSS Statistics® software. The
online surveys evidenced the differences in knowledge and behavior of academic
communities, which made it possible to analyze how the Waste Management
systems of campus influence more satisfactorily on people's environmental
perception. The management tool, Environmental Audit, was applied at IPB,
based on the technical standards ISO 19011: 2012 and ISO 14001: 2015, in order
to make qualitative and quantitative analysis of the containers in the common
areas, interview the outsourced employees of the bars and check laboratory
waste procedures. The Environmental Audit generated two confidential
documents, the respective Report and an Action Plan, which proposes measures
to correct the non-conformities and opportunities for improvement identified. The
members of the UTFPR-CM Waste Committee provided information on actions
that are taken to manage waste on campus. The main point highlighted in this
work for IPB was the need to implement a documented Waste Management, for
this it is necessary to indicate a structure of responsibilities, which may include
the creation of a Waste Commission, and as soon as possible, a more detailed
characterization should be carried out, including the study of gravimetric
composition. With this study, it was possible to highlight the importance of quality
Waste Management in HEIs, information that needs to be applied by the campus
through Environmental Education, and changes in relation to the waste caused
in the beginning of the pandemic quarantine
Multivariate geostatistics for assessing and predicting soil compaction
The aim of this research is to investigate the potential of geostatistical techniques for
understanding and evaluating the spatial variability of soil compaction, caused by the
traffic of agricultural machines and/or the action of tillage implements.
Soil cone penetrometer resistance was measured in a field of inland Sicily, along a
transect of 3 m length, from the soil surface until 70 cm depth.
The 3D mean maps showed a random variation on the surface and a high spatial correlation among penetrometer resistance data measured at different depths. The map corresponding to five tractor passes showed the largest extension of the areas characterised by the highest values of penetrometer resistance.
The probability maps showed that at least 20% of the monitored soil volume can exceed the critical penetrometer resistance for root growth
