Chemo-enzymatic epoxidation of sunflower oil methyl esters

The chemo-enzymatic epoxidation of the methyl esters of sunflower oil with lipase from Candida antarctica B and aqueous H2O2 in the presence and absence of an acyl donor was investigated. The biphasic system (CH2Cl2/H2O) comprised Candida antarctica B lipase (CALB, 1000 u g-1) and 30% (v/v) aqueous hydrogen peroxide. In some cases the conversion was higher than 99%. The best results were obtained for the biphasic system after 16 h of reaction, at 30 ºC, using 10 mmol of octanoic acid in relation to 1 g of the oil, 6 mL of dichlomethane and 5 mL of water

Conjugality in context of wife’s depression by the end of the infant’s first year of life

O presente estudo investigou o relacionamento conjugal no contexto da depressão materna, no final do primeiro ano de vida do bebê. Participaram do estudo 22 casais, divididos em dois grupos, um em que a esposa apresentava indicadores de depressão (10), e outro em que não os apresentava (12), segundo o Inventário Beck de Depressão. Os bebês tinham em torno de 12 meses de idade, sendo 8 meninas e 14 meninos. O teste Mann-Whitney indicou diferença significativa entre os dois grupos quanto à depressão, mas não em relação às diversas variáveis sociodemográficas investigadas. Análise de conteúdo qualitativa das entrevistas indicou que, comparado ao grupo sem depressão, as esposas com indicadores de depressão relataram mais dificuldades com relação ao companheirismo e o tempo para o casal, à comunicação e resolução de conflitos e à avaliação global da qualidade do relacionamento conjugal e sexual. Esses resultados corroboram outros estudos que têm destacado que a presença de indicadores de depressão na esposa pode trazer dificuldades para a conjugalidade.The present study investigated marital relationship in the context of maternal depression, at the end of the baby’s first year of life. Twenty-two couples, divided into two groups, took part in the study. In one of them the wife presented depression indicators (10), and in the other there were no depression indicators (12), according to Beck’s Depression Inventory. The babies were around 12 months, 8 girls and 14 boys. Mann-Whitney test indicated significant differences between the two groups as far as depression is concerned, but not regarding the several investigated socio-demographic variables. Qualitative content analysis of the interviews indicated that, compared to the group without depression, the wives with depression indicators reported more difficulties regarding partnership and time for the couple, to the communication and resolution of conflicts and to the global evaluation of the quality of the marital and sexual relationship. Those results corroborate other studies which have highlighted that the presence of depression indicators in the wife can bring difficulties for marital relationship

Innovative Capability and Challenges for Industrial Business

Este artigo examinou o impacto exercido pela capacidade inovativa sobre o desempenho em inovação, considerando a influência da orientação para o mercado em um quadro econômico de baixo crescimento. Utilizou amostra com 244 empresas industriais brasileiras e Modelagem de Equações Estruturais. Os resultados evidenciaram o impacto positivo da capacidade inovativa sobre o desempenho em inovação e o efeito negativo da orientação para o mercado sobre este impacto. O artigo contribui com a literatura ao identificar fatores que influenciam, simultaneamente, o desempenho em inovação em um contexto ambiental restritivo. Gestores de empresas podem utilizar os resultados aqui reportados em suas estratégias que viabilizem a aquisição de novos conhecimentos, utilizando a integração entre a capacidade inovativa e a orientação para o mercado como fatores direcionadores do desempenho em inovação.This paper examined the impact of innovative capability on innovation performance, considering the influence of market orientation on a low growth economic environment. It used a sample with 244 Brazilian industrial companies and Structural Equation Modeling. The results showed the positive impact of innovative capability on innovation performance and the negative effect of market orientation on this impact. The article contributes to the literature by identifying factors that simultaneously influence innovation performance in a restrictive environmental context. Business managers can use the results reported here in their strategies that enable the acquisition of new knowledge, using the integration between innovative capability and market orientation as driving factors of innovation performance

Este artigo pretende discutir os Jogos Olímpicos de Atenas como um ritual que organiza e estrutura as narrativas míticas que constróem a modernidade. Reflete sobre o papel dos meios de comunicação de massa na disseminação destas narrativas através da divulgação massiva deste ritual, produzindo um processo de identificação dos sujeitos através de estratégias específicas, colaborando na fragmentação das identidades e na cisão entre cultura subjetiva e cultura objetiva, o que, conforme Simmel, configuraria-se na tragédia da cultura. Como base documental, são utilizadas matérias jornalísticas de dois jornais de Santa Catarina a respeito da participação dos atletas catarinenses olímpicos

Política de segurança para o paciente submetido ao tratamento de radioterapia/ Safety policy for patients undergoing radiotherapy treatment

A Associação Americana de Oncologia da Radiação (ASTRO), considera muito mais multidisciplinar as responsabilidades dentro e fora de serviços de radioterapia, resultando na necessidade de melhorar a comunicação. Enfatiza que a qualidade e segurança não são apenas responsabilidade de liderança departamental, mas de toda a equipe envolvida na prática clínica.  Assim, este estudo visa comparar os principais documentos internacionais e nacionais acerca da política de segurança em serviço de radioterapia. Do ponto de vista da proteção radiológica pela norma brasileira as exposições ocupacionais e do público são bem estabelecidas. Entretanto, os novos desafios se encontram no cuidado permanente das exposições médicas (do paciente), e do ponto de vista do controle de qualidade o foco é bem estabelecido no desempenho dos equipamentos e a mudança está na garantia ou gestão da qualidade (foco na qualidade dos cuidados ao paciente), representando que esta é uma área da radiologia médica que exige uma dedicação por uma equipe multidisciplinar

Rationale, study design, and analysis plan of the Alveolar Recruitment for ARDS Trial (ART): Study protocol for a randomized controlled trial

Background: Acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) is associated with high in-hospital mortality. Alveolar recruitment followed by ventilation at optimal titrated PEEP may reduce ventilator-induced lung injury and improve oxygenation in patients with ARDS, but the effects on mortality and other clinical outcomes remain unknown. This article reports the rationale, study design, and analysis plan of the Alveolar Recruitment for ARDS Trial (ART). Methods/Design: ART is a pragmatic, multicenter, randomized (concealed), controlled trial, which aims to determine if maximum stepwise alveolar recruitment associated with PEEP titration is able to increase 28-day survival in patients with ARDS compared to conventional treatment (ARDSNet strategy). We will enroll adult patients with ARDS of less than 72 h duration. The intervention group will receive an alveolar recruitment maneuver, with stepwise increases of PEEP achieving 45 cmH(2)O and peak pressure of 60 cmH2O, followed by ventilation with optimal PEEP titrated according to the static compliance of the respiratory system. In the control group, mechanical ventilation will follow a conventional protocol (ARDSNet). In both groups, we will use controlled volume mode with low tidal volumes (4 to 6 mL/kg of predicted body weight) and targeting plateau pressure <= 30 cmH2O. The primary outcome is 28-day survival, and the secondary outcomes are: length of ICU stay; length of hospital stay; pneumothorax requiring chest tube during first 7 days; barotrauma during first 7 days; mechanical ventilation-free days from days 1 to 28; ICU, in-hospital, and 6-month survival. ART is an event-guided trial planned to last until 520 events (deaths within 28 days) are observed. These events allow detection of a hazard ratio of 0.75, with 90% power and two-tailed type I error of 5%. All analysis will follow the intention-to-treat principle. Discussion: If the ART strategy with maximum recruitment and PEEP titration improves 28-day survival, this will represent a notable advance to the care of ARDS patients. Parentalidade no contexto da depressão materna no final do primeiro ano de vida do bebê

The present study investigated parenthood in the context of maternal depression, at the end of the first year of the infant’s life. The participants of the study were 22 families, from different socioeconomic levels, divided into two groups, one with mothers who did not present indicators of depression (n=12) and another group with mothers who did (n=10), based on the Beck Depression Inventory. All the mothers were primiparous and lived with the child’s father, the babies were approximately 12 months of age. The mothers and fathers participated in an interview that investigated several parenting aspects. Qualitative content analysis of the interviews indicated that, compared to the group without depression, the depressed mothers, as well as their husbands, reported more difficulties regarding division tasks, financial concerns, and divergences and conflicts in child care. These results corroborate other studies which emphasized that the presence of indicators of maternal depression can cause difficulties in parenting.O presente estudo investigou a parentalidade no contexto de depressão materna, no final do primeiro ano de vida do bebê.
