HTTP Mailbox - Asynchronous RESTful Communication
We describe HTTP Mailbox, a mechanism to enable RESTful HTTP communication in
an asynchronous mode with a full range of HTTP methods otherwise unavailable to
standard clients and servers. HTTP Mailbox allows for broadcast and multicast
semantics via HTTP. We evaluate a reference implementation using ApacheBench (a
server stress testing tool) demonstrating high throughput (on 1,000 concurrent
requests) and a systemic error rate of 0.01%. Finally, we demonstrate our HTTP
Mailbox implementation in a human assisted web preservation application called
"Preserve Me".Comment: 13 pages, 6 figures, 8 code blocks, 3 equations, and 3 table
The Mechanisms of Moral Disengagement in George W. Bush’s “War on Terror” Rhetoric
Despite considerable literature on the Bush administration’s war on terrorism rhetoric, little attention has been paid to its discourse of moral disengagement, leaving an important and still relevant gap that this paper aims to address. Rather than approaching this gap in terms of an archival historical analysis that is disconnected from the present, it proposes an exploratory revisit of the rhetoric that the benefits of hindsight might enrich and, we argue, aid in understanding connections to the current post-invasion turmoil and the gradual ISIS takeover. Having subjected nineteen presidential speeches to qualitative content analysis, we identified a number of moral disengagement mechanisms: moral justification, advantageous comparisons, and attribution of blame, dehumanisation of the enemy, the use of sanitizing language, diffusion of responsibility and minimization of harm. We also identified novel themes relating to American excellence/patriotism, religious ideals and fear- arousing appeals, offering original contributions to the existing literature and advancing our understanding of dynamic, real-world, and highest stakes moral disengagement whose parallels can be identified in today’s political discourses. The detailed analysis unveils the apparent paradox of propagating moral disengagement through a thread of arguments that interweave diversity with uniformity, complexity with simplicity, in effect alerting the reader to the processes of moral desensitisation that the past, current and future “warmongering” political discourses may often rely upon

The Effects of Fluency Instruction on the Oral Reading Fluency and Comprehension of First-Grade African American Males with Reading Risk
This study evaluated the effects of a fluency building activity on the oral reading fluency (ORF) and comprehension of four first grade students identified as at risk for reading failure. The participants in this study were selected because they were members of a group at the highest risk for reading problems, specifically African American boys attending an urban school district. The results of this study demonstrated that the intervention was successful in increasing the ORF of all four participants but results were much more robust for two of the four students. Although ORF increased for all of the participants, gains in comprehension and on formal measures were less evident. The results and implications for classroom implementation as well as directions for future research are discussed
Interstellar H2 toward HD 147888
The ultraviolet and far--ultraviolet spectra of HD 147888 allows to access
the v=0 as well as higher vibrational levels of the ground H2 electronic level.
We have determined column densities of the H2 molecule on vibrational levels
v=0-5 and rotational levels J=0-6.
The ortho to para H2 ratio for the excited vibrational states equals to 1.2.
For the lowest vibrational state v=0 and rotational level J=1 the ortho to para
H2 ratio is only 0.16. The temperature of ortho-para thermodynamical
equilibrium is T_OP=43+-3 K.
The large number of H2 absorption lines in the HST spectra allows to
determine column densities even from a noisy spectra.
The measurements of H2 column densities on excited vibrational levels (from
the HST spectra) leads to constrains of radiation field in photon-dominated
regions (PDR) models of interstellar cloud towards HD 147888
