A viable 3HDM theory of quark mass matrices
It is known that a three Higgs doublet model (3HDM)symmetric under an exact
symmetry is not compatible with nonzero quark masses and/or
non-block-diagonal CKM matrix. We show that a 3HDM with softly broken
terms in the scalar potential does allow for a fit of quark mass matrices.
Moreover, the result is consistent with and the signal. We also checked numerically that, for each point
that passes all the constraints, the minimum is a global minimum of the
potential.Comment: 21 pages, 10 Figures in PDF. Minor changes; matches version to be

médios diários, a diferentes idades padrão.
Dairy goat farming has evolved towards intensification, with increased use of high
milk-yielding breeds, including the Murciano-Granadina breed. Milk is the main source
of farm income. Secondary income sources are the sale of animals for meat and, in
genetically superior herds, the sale of breeding animals.
The weights of 241 commercial farms artificially reared Murciano-Granadina kids were
analyzed with the objective of quantifying weight and growth and identifying variation
factors. Kids were artificially reared to weaning, on ad libitum commercial milk
replacer, commercial concentrate, lucerne hay and straw.
Kids were weighed at birth and at weekly intervals until 60 days of age. Age adjusted
weights and growth-rates were calculated. A variance analysis was performed with a
model including the effects of season of birth, number of kids per kidding, sex and age
of dam.
Single and twin-born kids had higher weights than triplets, and males had higher
weights than females. Average daily gain after one month of age was lower for kids
born in winter-spring than for those born in spring-summe
Career self: a longitudinal study with college students
Malaria Liver Stage Susceptibility Locus Identified on Mouse Chromosome 17 by Congenic Mapping
Host genetic variants are known to confer resistance to Plasmodium blood stage infection and to control malaria severity both in humans and mice. This work describes the genetic mapping of a locus for resistance to liver stage parasite in the mouse. First, we show that decreased susceptibility to the liver stage of Plasmodium berghei in the BALB/c mouse strain is attributable to intra-hepatic factors and impacts on the initial phase of blood stage infection. We used QTL mapping techniques to identify a locus controlling this susceptibility phenotype (LOD score 4.2) on mouse chromosome 17 (belr1 locus). Furthermore, analysis of congenic mouse strains delimited the belr1 locus boundaries distally to the H2 region. Quantification of parasites in the liver of infected congenic mice strongly suggested that the belr1 locus represents a genetic factor controlling the expansion of P. berghei in the hepatic tissue. The mapping of belr1 locus raises the hypothesis that host gene variation is able to control the progression of Plasmodium liver stage infection and opens the possibility that the human genomic region orthologue to belr1 may contain genes that confer resistance to the human malaria liver stage
Conditions for global minimum in the
There has been a great interest in three Higgs doublet models (3HDM) symmetric under an exact symmetry. We provide the complete analytic necessary and sufficient conditions for a point to be the global minimum along the neutral directions in such models, discussing many of the subtleties involved. We also present a number of numerical examples, to highlight those issues. We then turn to the directions which break electric charge, presenting a safe analytical sufficient condition for bounded from below (BFB) potentials. Based on extensive numerical simulations, we discuss one conjecture on BFB along charge breaking directions

Genistein-supplemented diet decreases malaria liver infection in mice and constitutes a potential prophylactic strategy

70187.pdf (publisher's version ) (Open Access)In tropical regions millions of people still live at risk of malaria infection. Indeed the emergence of resistance to chloroquine and other drugs in use in these areas reinforces the need to implement alternative prophylactic strategies. Genistein is a naturally occurring compound that is widely used as a food supplement and is thought to be effective in countering several pathologies. Results presented here show that genistein inhibits liver infection by the Plasmodium parasite, the causative agent of malaria. In vitro, genistein decreased the infection rates of both mouse and human hepatoma cells by inhibiting the early stages of the parasite's intracellular development. Oral or intraperitoneal administration of genistein decreased the liver parasite load of P. berghei-infected mice. Moreover, mice fed on a genistein-supplemented diet showed a significant reduction in Plasmodium liver infection as well as a reduced blood parasitemia and partial protection from severe disease. Since genistein is a safe, low-cost, natural compound that can be used permanently in a diet, we propose its use as a prophylactic agent against malaria for endemic populations and long-time travelers
