    On the effect of risk aversion in bimatrix games

    Get PDF
    Nash equilibria with identical supports are compared for bimatrix games that are different with respect to the risk aversion of player 2. For equilibria in 2 by 2-bimatrix games and for equilibria with efficient supports in coordination games it is established for which cases increased risk aversion of player 2 benefits or hurts player 2.microeconomics ;

    On the effect of risk aversion in two-person, two-state finance economies

    The effect of replacing an agent in a two-person two-state finance economy by a more risk averse agent is studied. It is established under which conditions the other agent benefitsor looses in equilibrium from dealing with a more risk averse agent. If one agent becomes more risk averse, then the equilibrium allocation moves towards that agent''s certainty line. Whether or not that is beneficial for the other agent, depends on the location of the endowment point.microeconomics ;

    Innovative business plan for a brunch restaurant in Toulouse, France

    Get PDF
    The main objective of this master thesis is to investigate whether it is achievable to open a brunch restaurant in Toulouse, France. Therefore, this master thesis is presented in the form of business plan. The innovative proposal is to introduce a new concept of brunch competing in the restaurant industry of Toulouse. In order to better understand the surrounding business environment of the project, several data were collected and analysed to develop the project. A market analysis and internal business analysis were conducted along with a competitive analysis to determine whether the restaurant could be a legitimate competitor among the other restaurants in Toulouse. After reviewing the results, a strategic analysis and marketing plan were advanced. Finally, a financial analysis was run to determine whether the affair offered a financial and economic viability. This consisted of an examination of startup costs and funding, as well as the creation of an income statement, statement of cash flows, and a balance sheet which were all based off on a 60 month sales forecast. These financial forms made it possible to perform a break even analysis that had the final conclusion as to whether or not the restaurant could be a profitable investment. Lastly, it possible to say that the restaurant is profitable from the first year of business operations. While the strategic analysis pointed out the restaurant could not only compete, but beat the competition, the financial analysis indicated that opening this restaurant would be a viable project, making profits from the first year of operating .O principal objectivo desta tese de mestrado é investigar se é possível abrir um restaurante de brunch em Toulouse, França. Por conseguinte, esta tese de mestrado é apresentada sob a forma de um plano de negócios. A proposta inovadora consiste em introduzir um novo conceito de brunch concorrente no sector da restauração de Toulouse, em França. A fim de melhor compreender o ambiente empresarial circundante do projecto, foram recolhidos e analisados vários dados para desenvolver o projecto. Foram realizadas uma análise do mercado, uma análise interna do negócio, bem como uma análise da concorrência, a fim de determinar se o restaurante poderia ser um concorrente legítimo entre os outros restaurantes de Toulouse. Após a análise dos resultados, foi avançada uma análise estratégica. Foi efectuada ainda, uma análise financeira para determinar se o caso oferecia uma viabilidade financeira e económica. Esta análise consistiu num exame de custos e de financiamento para o seu lançamento, bem como a criação de uma demonstração de resultados, de uma demonstração de fluxos de caixa e de um balanço, todos baseados numa previsão de vendas em 60 meses. Estas análises financeiras permitiram identificar o ponto de equilíbrio para concluir se o restaurante poderia ou não ser um investimento rentável. Por último, após toda a investigação, é possível afirmar que o restaurante é rentável desde o primeiro ano de actividade. A análise estratégica apontou que o restaurante não só podia competir com a concorrência, como também vencê-la e, a financeira indicou que a abertura deste restaurante seria um projecto viável, obtendo lucros a partir do primeiro ano de funcionamento (euros)

    Resumo: Este trabalho teve como objetivo determinar a freqüência de Escherichia coli Shigatoxigênica (STEC) no conteúdo entérico de bovinos no estado do Paraná. Foram empregadas 3 diferentes metodologias: cultura em Ágar MacConkey sorbitol, detecção da citotoxicidade em células Vero e a PCR para detecção de genes que codificam a toxina Shiga. Para tanto foram analisadas no período de dezembro de 2002 a novembro de 2003, 193 amostras de swab retal de bovinos. Colônias isoladas com características de Escherichia coli, foram analisadas por meio destas metodologias. No teste de citotoxicidade em células Vero 66 (34%) das amostras apresentaram positividade ao passo que na PCR 81 (42%) das amostras apresentaram a banda de amplificação do tamanho esperado para o gene stx. Nenhuma cepa aglutinou frente ao antisoro 0157. Foi demonstrada a elevada ocorrência de cepas STEC não-0157 na população bovina estudada sugerindo potencial risco zoonótico. A positividade apresentada no método de PCR foi maior em comparação ao ensaio da citotoxicidade em células Vero

    Fe(I)-Mediated Reductive Cleavage and Coupling of CO_2:  An Fe^(II)(μ-O,μ-CO)Fe^(II) Core

    THF solutions of a new iron(I) source, [PhBP^(CH2_Cy_3)]Fe ([PhBP^(CH_2Cy_3)] = [PhBP(CH_2P(CH_2Cy)_2)_3]-), effect the reductive cleavage of CO_2 via O-atom transfer at ambient temperature. The dominant reaction pathway is bimetallic and leads to the formation of a structurally unprecedented diiron Fe^(II)(μ-O)(μ-CO)Fe^(II) core. X-ray data are also available to suggest that bimetallic reductive CO_2 coupling to generate oxalate occurs as a minor reaction pathway. These initial observations forecast a diverse reaction landscape between CO_2 and iron(I) synthons

    CO_2 reduction by Fe(I): solvent control of C-O cleavage versus C-C coupling

    This manuscript explores the product distribution of the reaction of carbon dioxide with reactive iron(I) complexes supported by tris(phosphino)borate ligands, [PhBP^R_3]- ([PhBP^R_3]- =[PhB(CH_2PR_2)_3]-; R = CH_2Cy,Ph, ^iPr, mter; mter = 3,5-meta-terphenyl). Our studies reveal an interesting and unexpected role for the solvent medium with respect to the course of the CO_2 activation reaction. For instance, exposure of methylcyclohexane (MeCy) solutions of [PhBP^(CH_2Cy)_3 ]Fe(PR’_3) to CO_2 yields the partial decarbonylation product {[PhBP^(CH_2Cy)_3 ]Fe}_2(µ-O)(µ-CO). When the reaction is instead carried out in benzene or THF, reductive coupling of CO_2 occurs to give the bridging oxalate species {[PhBP^(CH_2Cy_3 ]Fe}_2(µ- κOO’: κOO’-oxalato). Reaction studies aimed at understanding this solvent effect are presented, and suggest that the product profile is ultimately determined by the ability of the solvent to coordinate the iron center. When more sterically encumbering auxiliary ligands are employed to support the iron(I) center (i.e., [PhBP^(Ph)_3]- and [PhBP^(iPr)_3 ]-), complete decarbonylation is observed to afford structurally unusual diiron(II) products of the type {[PhBP^R_3]Fe}_2(µ-O). A mechanistic hypothesis that is consistent with the collection of results described is offered, and suggests that reductive coupling of CO_2 likely occurs from an electronically saturated “Fe^(II)–CO_2-” species
