paper with interesting open questions and discuss difficulties regarding other
natural approaches to higher independence
EFL teaching to school students with Asperger Syndrome: perceptions from the school community
Tesis (Profesor de Inglés para la Enseñanza Básica y Media y al grado académico de Licenciado en Educación)The present study investigated the perceptions of the school community regarding EFL teaching to Asperger (AS) Students within the mainstream classroom. This single case study was conducted in a public School in La Florida in Santiago de Chile. Three teachers and one mother from the school participated in a single oral interview. The data sources were three individual semi-structured interviews, designed for the different participants of our study. Overall, the results revealed that the school community plays an important role in AS students’ EFL learning process as each of them contribute in aspects of his or her education. Teachers feel they need to have more support from the Ministry of Education and there is lack of information about how to manage AS students in the EFL mainstream classroom. Special educational needs teachers (SEN teacher henceforth) suggest schools to have at least one SEN teacher present in a classroom when a subject is taught, which in this case would be English as a foreign language. Last but not least, parents suggest and urge teachers to take responsibility in their education and training, and prepare themselves and study specific courses that would help them to better teach and work with AS students and other SEN children. If the participants were unanimously in accord, it would be most beneficial for the AS students English learning process.
In Chile, there is a Law that establishes an equality of conditions for those individuals who possess, at least, one type of disability in the physical, mental, psychic, intellectual, or sensory; whether temporary or permanent, is considered disabled.

“What do you want for dinner?”: need anticipation and the design of proactive technologies for the home
This paper examines ‘the routine shop’ as part of a project that is exploring automation and autonomy in the Internet of Things. In particular we explicate the ‘work’ involved in anticipating need using an ethnomethodological analysis that makes visible the mundane, ‘seen but unnoticed’ methodologies that household members accountably employ to organise list construction and accomplish calculation on the shop floor. We discuss and reflect on the challenges members’ methodologies pose for proactive systems that seek to support domestic grocery shopping, including the challenges of sensing, learning and predicting, and gearing autonomous agents into social practice within the home

Abstract : Gastronomy has stood out in Brazil as an important sector in recent years, not only in the economy, but also in people's daily lives. Implementing and assessing use-driven acquisitions: a practical guide for librarians [book review]
With a changing publishing environment, flat or reduced collections budgets, lack of space for physical collections, and the convenience of conducting research with electronic resources, many libraries are looking at ways to provide access to titles without committing to a purchase unless there is guaranteed use of an item. Implementing and Assessing Use-Driven Acquisitions: A Practical Guide for Librarians, from the series Practical Guides for Librarians, is a detailed survey of available purchasing models for use-driven acquisitions (UDA), which the authors define as “any method of collection development in which content is loaned, purchased, or accessed based on actual need instead of anticipated need” (p. 156). They provide a clear overview of the options offered by publishers and other providers with a detailed explanation of each model described

Effects Of Vehicle Microdialysis Solutions On Cutaneous Vascular Responses To Local Heating
NC DOCKS at Appalachian State University
Smith, Caroline
<![CDATA[Microdialysis is a minimally invasive technique often paired with laser Doppler flowmetry to examine cutaneous microvascular function, yet presents with several challenges, including incompatibility with perfusion of highly lipophilic compounds. The present study addresses this methodological concern, with an emphasis on the independent effects of commonly used vehicle dialysis solutions to improve solubility of pharmacological agents with otherwise low aqueous solubility. Four microdialysis fibers were placed in the ventral forearm of eight subjects (4 men, 4 women; 25 ± 1 yr) with sites randomized to serve as 1) control (lactated Ringer’s), 2) Sodium carbonate- bicarbonate buffer administered at physiological pH [SCB-HCl; pH 7.4, achieved via addition of hydrochloric acid (HCl)], 3) 0.02% ethanol, and 4) 2% dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO). After baseline (34°C), vehicle solutions were administered throughout a standardized local heating protocol to 42°C. Laser Doppler flowmetry provided an index of blood flow. Cutaneous vascular conductance was calculated and normalized to maximum (%CVCmax, sodium nitroprusside and 43°C local heat). The SCB-HCl solution increased baseline %CVCmax (control: 9.7 ± 0.8; SCB-HCl: 21.5 ± 3.5%CVCmax; P = 0.03), but no effects were observed during heating or maximal vasodilation. There were no differences with perfusion of ethanol or DMSO at any stage of the protocol (P > 0.05). These data demonstrate the potential confounding effects of some vehicle dialysis solutions on cutaneous vascular function. Notably, this study provides evidence that 2% DMSO and 0.02% ethanol are acceptable vehicles with no confounding local vascular effects to a standardized local heating protocol at the concentrations presented
