    Twin Peaks: A possible signal in the production of resonances beyond special relativity

    It is usually expected that quantum gravity corrections will modify somehow the symmetries of special relativity. In this paper we point out that the possibility of very low-energy (with respect to the Planck energy) modifications to special relativity in the framework of a deformed relativistic theory is not ruled out, and that, depending on the value of that scale, such a possibility could be tested in accelerator physics. In particular, we take a simple example of a relativistic kinematics beyond special relativity from the literature, and obtain a remarkable effect: two correlated peaks ("twin peaks") associated to a single resonance. We analyze this phenomenology in detail, use LEP data to put constraints of the order of TeV on the scale of corrections to special relativity, and note that such an effect might be observable in a future very high-energy proton collider.Comment: 17 pages, accepted for publication in Symmetr

    Asymptotic approach to Special Relativity compatible with a relativistic principle

    We propose a general framework to describe Planckian deviations from Special Relativity (SR) compatible with a relativistic principle. They are introduced as the leading corrections in an asymptotic approach to SR going beyond the energy power expansion of effective field theories. We discuss the conditions in which these Planckian effects might be experimentally observable in the near future, together with the non-trivial limits of applicability of this asymptotic approach that such a situation would produce, both at the very high (ultraviolet) and the very low (infrared) energy regimes.Comment: 12 page

    Antiferromagnetic O(N) models in four dimensions

    We study the antiferromagnetic O(N) model in the F_4 lattice. Monte Carlo simulations are applied for investigating the behavior of the transition for N=2,3.     We report on evidence that confinement is related to dual superconductivity of the vacuum in full QCD, as in quenched QCD.     About Locality and the Relativity Principle Beyond Special Relativity

    Locality of interactions is an essential ingredient of Special Relativity. Recently, a new framework under the name of relative locality \cite{AmelinoCamelia:2011bm} has been proposed as a way to consider Planckian modifications of the relativistic dynamics of particles. We note in this paper that the loss of absolute locality is a general feature of theories beyond Special Relativity with an implementation of a relativity principle. We give an explicit construction of such an implementation and compare it both with the previously mentioned framework of relative locality and the so-called Doubly Special Relativity theories.Comment: 10 pages, no figure

    Methods for Scarless, Selection-Free Generation of Human Cells and Allele-Specific Functional Analysis of Disease-Associated SNPs and Variants of Uncertain Significance.

    With the continued emergence of risk loci from Genome-Wide Association studies and variants of uncertain significance identified from patient sequencing, better methods are required to translate these human genetic findings into improvements in public health. Here we combine CRISPR/Cas9 gene editing with an innovative high-throughput genotyping pipeline utilizing KASP (Kompetitive Allele-Specific PCR) genotyping technology to create scarless isogenic cell models of cancer variants in ~1 month. We successfully modeled two novel variants previously identified by our lab in the PALB2 gene in HEK239 cells, resulting in isogenic cells representing all three genotypes for both variants. We also modeled a known functional risk SNP of colorectal cancer, rs6983267, in HCT-116 cells. Cells with extremely low levels of gene editing could still be identified and isolated using this approach. We also introduce a novel molecular assay, ChIPnQASO (Chromatin Immunoprecipitation and Quantitative Allele-Specific Occupation), which uses the same technology to reveal allele-specific function of these variants at the DNA-protein interaction level. We demonstrated preferential binding of the transcription factor TCF7L2 to the rs6983267 risk allele over the non-risk. Our pipeline provides a platform for functional variant discovery and validation that is accessible and broadly applicable for the progression of efforts towards precision medicine

    [EN] The aim of this paper was to draw up a set of recommendations for applied nutrition and feeding trials with rabbits, in relation to certain aspects such as determining the nutritive value of raw materials or diets in growing or reproducing animals, studying digestive physiology and obtaining growth and reproduction parameters. We deal first with animals, size of the sample, housing conditions, diets, handling, measurements, and the data analyses relevant to the design of the experiment are described.
