A multi-layered Bayesian network model for structured document retrieval

New standards in document representation, like for example SGML, XML, and MPEG-7, compel Information Retrieval to design and implement models and tools to index, retrieve and present documents according to the given document structure. The paper presents the design of an Information Retrieval system for multimedia structured documents, like for example journal articles, e-books, and MPEG-7 videos. The system is based on Bayesian Networks, since this class of mathematical models enable to represent and quantify the relations between the structural components of the document. Some preliminary results on the system implementation are also presented

El litoral onubense y algarveño en el "Papiro de Artemidoro": una nueva interpretación

La reciente edición del “Papiro de Artemidoro” ha permitido conocer el posible comienzo del libro II del “Periplo” de Artemidoro de Éfeso, en el que figuraría, además de un proemio, el “paraplo” de las costas de la Península Ibérica conocidas a finales del s. II a.C. Consideramos auténtico dicho papiro, pues es difícil que un supuesto falsificador del siglo XIX, como defi enden algunos estudiosos, pudiera haber conocido el topónimo “Ipsa”, del que no se han tenido noticias hasta 1986, fecha de las excavaciones arqueológicas en las que aparecieron algunas monedas con esta leyenda. Por otra parte se pretende dar explicación a las ausencias de algunos enclaves geográficos del litoral ibérico, bien conocidos por la literatura geográfi ca grecolatina; se postula que Artemidoro realizó un viaje exploratorio por las costas del Golfo de Cádiz hasta el Cabo Sagrado y tal vez también por toda la fachada Atlántica y se propone una interpretación distinta a la de los editores del papiro para el tramo costero desde “Onoba” al Cabo Sagrado.The recent edition of “Artemidoru`s Papyrus” has allowed to know the possible beginning of the book II of “Artemidorus of Ephesus Periplus”, in which there would appear, besides a preface, the “paraplo” of the coasts of the Iberian Peninsula known at the end of second century B.C. We consider the authenticity of this papyrus, since it’s difficult that a supposed forger of the 19th century, as some experts defend, could have known the “Ipsa” toponym, of which news has not been had until 1986, date of the archaeological excavations in which some coins with this name appeared. On the other hand, to give explanation to the absences of some geographic places of Iberian coast, well known through Greek and Latin geographical literature, is intended. From these data, there is postulated that Artemidoro realized an exploratory trip for the coasts of the Gulf of Cadiz until the Sacred Cape, and maybe also across the Atlantic seaboard; finally, an interpretation different from that of the publishers (editors) of the papyrus about the coastal stretch from “Onoba” to the Sacred Cape, is proposed.Andalucía. Niebla, de Oppidum a Madina

In this paper we study excavation results and studies carried out in the Niebla Ar-chaeological Urban Proyect. The relationship between the Niebla (Huelva province, southwest Spain) settlement and the configuration of an urban model from the Late Bronze Age to Medieval Time, explains the importance that the urban concept have been througth the time in the Huelva Countryside, and we analize the diferent eco-nomic interactive models beetwen the city and its territory.En este trabajo se estudian los resultados de las excavaciones y estudios realizados en el Proyecto de Arqueología Urbana en Niebla (Huelva). El papel desempeñado por el asentamiento de Niebla en la configuración de un modelo de ciudad con orígenes en el Bronce Final y su evolución a lo largo de las etapas preromana, romana y medieval, explica el rango que el concepto urbano ha tenido a lo largo de este periodo en la campiña de Huelva, y se analizan las causas que provocan los dis­tintos modelos por la interacción de relaciones económicas y sociales entre mundo urbano y su territorio

Detection theory approach to multichannel pattern location

We propose and assess new algorithms for detecting and locating an object in multichannel images. These algorithms are optimal for additive Gaussian noise and maximize the likelihood of the observed images. We consider two cases, in which the illumination of the target and the variance of the noise in each channel are either known or unknown. We show that in the latter case the algorithm provides accurate estimates of variance and luminance. These algorithms can be viewed as postprocessed versions of the correlation of a reference with the scene image in each channel

Urbanismo aruccitano: el trazado regulador de la domus norte

En el siguiente trabajo se presenta una propuesta del trazado regulador de la denominada Casa Norte de la ciudad de Arucci, uno de los elementos urbanos mejor conocidos en su planta arquitectónica. El estudio de su modulación y el trazado regulador que rigió su diseño definen diversas particularidades de este conjunto estructural como son la ruptura de su eje mayor, el acceso en uno de los lados mayores, así como otros elementos que la caracterizan. Con todo, se muestran diversos resultados que definen de una manera cada vez más nítida el trazado viario de la ciudad de un modo general y la arquitectura doméstica de la ciudad en particular
