Plan-view Trajectory Estimation with Dense Stereo Background Models
In a known environment, objects may be tracked in multiple views using a set of back-ground models. Stereo-based models can be illumination-invariant, but often have undefined values which inevitably lead to foreground classification errors. We derive dense stereo models for object tracking using long-term, extended dynamic-range imagery, and by detecting and interpolating uniform but unoccluded planar regions. Foreground points are detected quickly in new images using pruned disparity search. We adopt a 'late-segmentation' strategy, using an integrated plan-view density representation. Foreground points are segmented into object regions only when a trajectory is finally estimated, using a dynamic programming-based method. Object entry and exit are optimally determined and are not restricted to special spatial zones

Adverse infusion reactions to rituximab in systemic lupus erythematosus: a retrospective analysis
Background
To undertake a retrospective review of patients with SLE who had received Rituximab in order to determine the rates and associated patient characteristics of clinically significant adverse infusion reactions.
Methods
A descriptive analysis was undertaken of each infusion reaction, which was then assessed using the clinical information available to hypothesise on the possible underlying mechanism(s).
Results
Records of 136 SLE patients previously treated with 481 individual infusions of Rituximab were reviewed. A total of 22 patients (17.6%) had 28 (5.8% of total infusions) documented clinically significant adverse infusion reactions. Average age at first Rituximab infusion in patients without a reaction was 37 years (range 16–73) compared with 30 years (range 18–56) in those with a reaction. A high proportion of men (18.2%) experienced an infusion reaction. Severity and type of reaction varied. 6.4% of those who had a reaction were not retreated.
Conclusions
While Rituximab remains an important tool in the treatment of SLE it is important to be aware that rates of infusion reactions may be more significant in SLE than in other diseases. A prospective study is required to better characterise the reactions
Heat stress: A major contributor to poor animal welfare associated with long-haul live export voyages
Recent investigations by the Australian Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry into high mortalities on live export voyages from Australia to the Middle East during the Northern hemisphere summer suggest that animal welfare may be compromised by heat stress. The live export industry has generated a computer model that aims to assess the risk of heat stress and to contain mortality levels on live export ships below certain arbitrary limits. Although the model must be complied with under Australian law, it is not currently available for independent scientific scrutiny, and there is concern that model and the mandated space allowances are inadequate. This review appraises the relevant literature on heat stress in sheep and cattle, including laboratory studies aimed at mimicking the ambient temperatures and humidity levels likely to be encountered on live export voyages. Animal welfare is likely to be very poor as a result of heat stress in some shipments
Further education improves cognitive reserve and triggers improvement in selective cognitive functions in older adults: The Tasmanian Healthy Brain Project
Introduction The strong link between early-life education and subsequent reduced risk of dementia suggests that education in later life could enhance cognitive function and may reduce age-related cognitive decline and protect against dementia. Methods Episodic memory, working memory, executive function, and language processing performances were assessed annually over 4 years in 359 healthy older adults who attended university for a minimum of 12 months (intervention) and were compared against 100 healthy adult controls. Results Multiple group latent growth curve modeling revealed a significant improvement in language processing capacity over time in the intervention group. No changes were detected for episodic memory, working memory, or executive function. Discussion These results suggest that complex mental stimulation resulting from late-life further education results in improved crystallized knowledge but no changes to fluid cognitive functions. © 2017 The Author
42. Sons and mothers: classification of colour-deficient and heterozygous subjects by counterphase modulation photometry
Abstract In the OSCAR test of Estkvez et al. (1983) red and green lights are modulated in counterphase and the subject is asked to adjust their relative depths of modulation so as to minimize nicker. In a population consisting of normal mothers and carriers of colour deficiency (classified by their sons' performance on the Nagel anomaloscope), the OSCAR settings of the mothers were strongly correlated with those of their sons. Protan and deutan carriers formed discrete populations; and many individual carriers of protan deficiencies could be distinguished from normals with confidence. Protan and deutan sons were distinguished from each other with complete reliability, but some deutan sons, and most deutan carriers, fell within the distribution of normal settings

Cation binding by polysaccharides is observed in many environments and is important for predictive environmental modeling, and numerous industrial and food technology applications. The complexities of these organo-cation interactions are well suited to predictive molecular modeling studies for investigating the roles of conformation and configuration of polysaccharides on cation binding. In this study, alginic acid was chosen as a model polymer and representative disaccharide and polysaccharide subunits were modeled. The ability of disaccharide subunits to bind calcium and to associate with the surface of calcite was investigated. The findings were extended to modeling polymer interactions with calcium ions
D-Brane Chemistry
We study several different kinds of bound states built from D-branes and
orientifolds. These states are to atoms what branonium - the bound state of a
brane and its anti-brane - is to positronium, inasmuch as they typically
involve a light brane bound to a much heavier object with conserved charges
which forbid the system's decay. We find the fully relativistic motion of a
probe Dp'-brane in the presence of source Dp-branes is integrable by
quadratures. Keplerian conic sections are obtained for special choices for p
and p' and the systems are shown to be equivalent to nonrelativistic systems.
Their quantum behaviour is also equivalent to the corresponding
non-relativistic limit. In particular the p=6, p'=0 case is equivalent to a
non-relativistic dyon in a magnetic monopole background, with the trajectories
in the surface of a cone. We also show that the motion of the probe branes
about D6-branes in IIA theory is equivalent to the motion of the corresponding
probes in the uplift to M-theory in 11 dimensions, for which there are no
D6-branes but their fields are replaced by a particular Taub-NUT geometry. We
further discuss the interactions of D-branes and orientifold planes having the
same dimension. this system behaves at large distances as a brane-brane system
but at shorter distances it does not have the tachyon instability.Comment: ref. added and typos correcte
