The interest in monasticism has been evolving over the years in selected topics, in the way of studying them and in who have been in charge of doing it. If in the early seminaries eremitism, Ancient History and Late Antiguity are given much attention, in the most recent seminaries the centre has been the Romanesque and the monastic orders. What in the beginning were general presentations (like the religious orders), are now analyzed in greater depth, even to the point of devoting them complete seminaries. The origin of the authors has been diversified both regarding their work area and geographically.Departamento de Historia Antigua y MedievalGrado en Histori

Analysis of the September ε-Perseid outburst in 2013

    Get PDF
We analyze the outburst experienced by the September ε-Perseid meteor shower on 9 September 2013. As a result of our monitoring the atmospheric trajectory of 60 multistation events observed over Spain was obtained and accurate orbital data were derived from them. On the basis of these orbits, we have tried to determine the likely parent body of this meteoroid stream by employing orbital dissimilarity criteria. In addition, the emission spectra produced by two events belonging to this meteor shower were also recorded. The analysis of these spectra has provided information about the chemical nature of their progenitor meteoroids. We also present an estimation of the tensile strength for these particles

The aim of this paper was to identify the variables that determine winning or losing in the critical moments of the basketball games. A total of forty one critical moments were analyzed, corresponding to 30 games of the regular season from the Spanish Professional League (ACB, season 2007-2008). Games were selected according to the definition of critical moments (described in the available literature), which corresponded to overtime and the last 5 minutes of games with score differences equal or below to six points. The results revealed better values in the winners in defensive rebounds and successful free-throws

    Get PDF

Calibration of SQM-L photometers for the NixNox project

    Get PDF
Twelve SQM-L night sky photometers have been tested and analyzed to determine their internal precision and differences in response. These photometers will be used by amateur astronomers around Spain, under the supervision of the Sociedad Española de Astronomía (SEA), to locate and characterize sites with dark skies well suited to perform astronomical observations (NixNox Project). A simple experimental setup has been built to obtain zero offsets for each photometer in order to correct all the observations

Orbits and emission spectra from the 2014 Camelopardalids

We have analysed the meteor activity associated with meteoroids of fresh dust trails of Comet 209P/LINEAR, which produced an outburst of the Camelopardalid meteor shower (IAU code #451, CAM) in 2014 May. With this aim, we have employed an array of high-sensitivity CCD video devices and spectrographs deployed at 10 meteor observing stations in Spain in the framework of the Spanish Meteor Network. Additional meteoroid flux data were obtained by means of two forward-scatter radio systems. The observed peak zenithal hourly rate was much lower than expected, of around 20 meteors h(-1). Despite of the small meteor flux in the optical range, we have obtained precise atmospheric trajectory, radiant and orbital information for 11 meteor and fireball events associated with this stream. The ablation behaviour and low tensile strength calculated for these particles reveal that Camelopardalid meteoroids are very fragile, mostly pristine aggregates with strength similar to that of the Orionids and the Leonids. The mineral grains seem to be glued together by a volatile phase. We also present and discuss two unique emission spectra produced by two Camelopardalid bright meteors. These suggest a non-chondritic nature for these particles, which exhibit Fe depletion in their composition

Light pollution in Spain. An european perspective

    Get PDF
Using DMPS satellite night images taken in 2000 we have estimated the saturated surface in many European countries. The objective of this study is to compare the illumination conditions and its effects in light pollution. We have measured the surface of the saturated zone. We compare this parameter with the ratio of population density of the country. To avoid bias, normalize by dividing the area built in each country prior to the comparison. In this way only takes into account the surface that really makes sense to illuminate. We have gathered the official data on energy consumption in public lighting in Spain. After plotting the evolution along the years we found changes in the way this value is obtained in different provinces of Spain and we made a more pessimistic prediction for the present energy consumption

Game-related statistics that discriminated winning and losing teams from the spanish mens professional basketball teams

The purpose of the present study was to analyse men’s basketball competitions, trying to identify which game-related statistics allow to discriminate winning and losing teams. The sample used corresponded to 306 games from the 2004– 2005 Regular Season of the Spanish Men’s Professional League. The game-related statistics gathered were: 2 and 3 points field-goals (both successful and unsuccessful), free-throws (both successful and unsuccessful), offensive and defensive rebounds, blocks, assists, fouls, turnovers and steals. The data were analysed in two groups: balanced games (final score differences equal or below 12 points) and unbalanced games (final score differences above 12 points). Discriminant analysis allowed to conclude the following: (i) in balanced games, the variable that best differentiate both groups were the defensive rebounds; (ii) in unbalanced games, the variables that discriminate between both groups were the successful 2 points field-goals, the defensive rebounds and the assists; and (iii) in all games, the statistical analysis identified two variables that discriminate winning and losing teams (defensive rebounds and assists). The defensive rebounds were the only game-related statistic that discriminates both groups in all performed analysis. Coaches and players should be aware of these different profiles in order to increase knowledge about game cognitive and motor solicitation and, therefore, to enhance specificity at the time of practice and game planning

Game location influences basketball players performance across playing positions.

Home advantage in sport has been the subject of much empirical work, although the 3 causes underlying this effect are still unclear. In team sports such as Basketball, available 4 literature has analyzed home versus away performances at a team level. The present study 5 investigated the presence of home advantage at the level of the individual player’s position. It 6 also attempted to identify a subset of game-related statistics that could discriminate home and 7 away performances according to each player’s position. To achieve these aims, archival data 8 were obtained from 225 games for the 2004-2005 Euroleague. Players were subdivided so 9 that the “point guards” and “offguards” were pooled as guards (n=493), the “small forwards” 10 and “power forwards” were grouped as forwards (n=485) and the centres (n=233). A 2x3 11 (game location: home and away; playing position: guards, forwards and centres) factorial 12 MANOVA followed by a discriminant analysis was performed. For the guards, the 13 discriminant function was significant and the game-related statistics that differentiated most 14 home and away performances were the successful two point field-goals, defensive rebounds, 15 assists, steals, blocks and committed fouls. The forwards’ home and away performances were 16 discriminated by successful free-throws, assists, steals, blocks and committed fouls. The 17 function for centres was non significant. Results suggested a differential effect of home 18 advantage in basketball players by role in the team, with guards from home teams playing 19 more assertively, whereas in away teams forwards played more assertively. These results 20 provide initial evidence to support a position specific approach when preparing for home and 21 away games in team sports

    Get PDF
The incidence of the disease is 5 per 1000 live births in Mexico. Failure to detect CHD early in the newborn or infant can negatively affect the psychomotor development of the child. Early diagnosis (ED) begins in the newborn, with visual and physical examination, followed by ultrasound and radiological evaluations. Conservative treatment is proposed as a preventive measure in the development of the pathology prior to ossification of the nucleus. As a result, it is necessary to assess whether prevention is the most effective weapon in the process of diagnosing and treating CHD. PURPOSE: To research if ED in newborn and infants with CHD prevents the development of the pathology and/or improves its prognosis. METHODS: In this review conducted in April 2022, 8 articles from 6 databases were retrieved: PubMed, Scopus, PEDro, Cochrane Library, ENFISPO and Science Direct. RESULTS: Ultrasonography was the most frequently applied diagnostic tool. Some studies identified significant and clinically relevant improvements in the evolution of CHD in infants after early diagnosis (< 6 months approximately) and early treatment. However, ED and early conservative intervention did not give the expected results in infants with severe or non-reducible CHD (type III or IV in Graf's method). CONCLUSIONS: Prevention seems to be the most effective weapon in the process of diagnosing and treating CHD. In addition, physiotherapy can assist the correct development of newborn and infants. It is necessary to include physical therapists in screening programmes and follow-up examinations of babys diagnosed with CHD
