Anàlisi del discurs i comunicació científica

Aquest article pretén demostrar el valor de l'anàlisi del discurs per contribuir a la recerca de la comunicació pública de la ciència. Després de contrastar les diferents maneres d'enfocar la investigació sobre la llengua, des del punt de vista de l'estructura o de l'ús, s'estableix com a objecte propi de l'anàlisi del discurs l'ús lingüístic en el seu context, així com la necessitat d'ampliar la perspectiva des de diverses disciplines, necessàries per proporcionar les categories i els mètodes apropiats per a l'estudi d'unitats de comunicació en la vida social. Prenent la contextualització com a principi bàsic per unir el món de la ciència amb el món de la vida quotidiana, es comenten alguns temes per il·lustrar la necessitat d'aplicar la perspectiva discursiva a la comunicació oral i escrita de les ciències: el procés de reformulació en diversos textos i interaccions sobre el mateix tema; el paper dels participants, amb una atenció especial a la construcció de la posició divulgativa, i la citació com a procediment multifuncional per integrar diferents veus en el mateix text. La comunicació directa, pròpia dels intercanvis orals, s'emfatitza com a mitjà per investigar procediments discursius que es donen en la dinàmica de la interacció i també per descobrir la importància d'una concepció interactiva dels processos comunicatius.This paper proves the value of discourse analysis to contribute to the research of the public communication of science. After contrasting the different ways of approaching research on language, from the point of view of its structure and its use, the linguistic use in context is established as the object of discourse analysis, just as the need to enlarge the perspective from different disciplines, that is essential in order to supply the study of communication units in social life with categories and methods. Considering the contextualization as the basic principle for linking the world of science and the world of daily life, several specific topics are commented to illustrate the crucial need to apply discourse studies to oral and written communication of sciences: the reformulation process in various texts and interactions on the same topic; the participants role paying special attention to the construction of the popularisation position, and citation as a procedure to integrate different voices in the same text. The immediate communication typical in oral exchanges is stressed as a way to investigate discursive procedures involved in the dynamics of interactive processes, and also to discover the importance of an interactive view of communication

Multifaceted dimensions of self-reference

Speaker and Hearer are the protagonists of the dialogic nature of language use. In this paper the way speakers present themselves in their texts is examined, taking into account not only their contextual role as purposive users but also the linguistic means available in every speech event in which they are involved. The analysis is focused on the Speaker. The diversity of possibilities of self-reference and its meaning in discourse is reviewed in the light of different approaches that try to give an answer to the problems posed by the variation found in different types of text

Pratiques discursives dans la communication sociale de la science

Dans cet écrit on soulève la problématique de la divulgation de thèmes associés aux sciences expérimentales à travers les médias. En soulignant la valeur d’une perspective discursive, on dessine le profil d’un projet de recherche, de l’université Pompeu Fabra de Barcelone, qui a pour objectif la description des usages linguistiques propres à un domaine de la communication sociale. On présente ici un résumé des premiers résultats de l’étude sur le cas des « vaches folles » dans la presse écrite. Deux aspects sont commentés : en premier lieu, la représentation des concepts scientifiques à travers différents procédés discursifs et lexicaux ; en second lieu, les formes de citation des différentes voix qui sont présentes dans les articles de presse.Discursive practices in the social communication of scienceThis paper discusses the problem of the popularization of topics associated with experimental sciences through the media, bringing into focus diverse aspects which need thinking through, mainly the objectives, the developments and the risks of current divulgatory practices. A research project initiated at the University Pompeu Fabra in Barcelona is presented from a discursive perspective and is about the “mad cow disease” in the press. Two aspects are discussed: firstly, the representation of scientific concepts through different discursive and lexical procedures; secondly, the forms of citation of different voices inserted in press articles showing the responsibility attributed to different social agents in a situation of crisis

Estrategias comunicativas e identidades socioculturales en "talk shows" : un ejemplo de "la vida en un XIP"

Aquest article es basa en l'anàlisi d'un exemple d'un espectacle de parla (talk show), un gènere televisiu que en els darrers temps ha arribat a tenir unes cotes de popularitat molt elevades. Aquest tipus de programa es desenvolupa al voltant d'un debat entre una sèrie de personatges convidats. El programa que s'analitza fou produït per la Televisió de Catalunya, TV3, amb el nom de 'La vida en un xip', i es va emetre setmanalment durant els anys 1992-1994. La finalitat primordial de l'estudi és la d'esbrinar i descriure la relació existent entre les estratègies comunicatives emprades pels participants en el debat i la seva identitat sociocultural. L'anàlisi se centra en el comportament discursiu de cada un dels participants, el qual es defineix a partir de dues dimensions bàsiques: la dimensió interlocutiva (sistema de torns) i la dimensió enunciativa (organització i continguts de les contribucions verbals de cada participant).The present article is based on the analysis of an example of a talk show, a TV genre that has become very popular in the last few years. This type of programme develops around a debate among a series of guest participants. The programe analyzed was produced by the Catalan television network (Televisió de Catalunya, TV3) with the name of 'La Vida en un Xip'. The main goal of the study is to discover and describe the relationship between the communicative strategies deployed by the participants in the debate and their socio-cultural identity. The analysis focuses upon the specific discourse behaviour of each of the participants. This behaviour is analyzed taking into account two basic dimensions: interlocutive (management of the turn-taking system) and enunciative (contents and organization of the individual contributions of the participants)

Comparando lenguas desde el léxico a paradigmas de flexión: un estudio sobre corpus paralelo y léxicos multilingües

En este artículo presentamos un estudio comparativo de corpus y de léxicos con el objetivo de comparar las dificultades que representan cinco lenguas (inglés, alemán, español, francés e italiano) para el análisis morfosintáctico y el desarrollo de recursos lexicográficos. Para ello hemos llevado a cabo varios experimentos utilizando dos corpus paralelos multilingües y dos léxicos morfosintácticos por lengua. Primero comparamos los resultados cuantitativos respecto a la cobertura dinámica y estática, y las ambigüedades morfosintácticas de los léxicos y corpus. Además, a partir de los léxicos hemos generado paradigmas de flexión para calcular cuántos son necesarios en cada lengua. Los resultados muestran la dificultad de trabajar con recursos multilingües y corpus paralelos. También ofrecen resultados cuantitativos sorprendentes respecto a las diferencias entre lenguas.In this paper we report on a corpora and lexical comparative study on how to compare the difficulties of five languages (English, German, Spanish, French and Italian) for morphosyntactic analysis and the development of lexicographic resources. Experiments were conducted on two different sets of multilingual parallel corpora and two different morphosyntactic lexicons per language. We measure and compare statistics on dynamic and static coverage, form-lemma and morphosyntactic ambiguities in the lexicon and the corpus. In addition to this, we use the lexicons to automatically generate inflection paradigms and calculate how many inflection paradigms are needed per language. Results show the difficulty of working with multilingual resources and parallel corpora and offer some surprising quantitative results on differences in languages
