Este libro, coordinado por Daniel H. Cabrera (Universidad de Zaragoza, España) y editado por Tirant Humanidades, aborda la problemática de la tecnología y la comunicación en el espacio de cruce entre lo artificial y lo humano. En la introducción, el Dr. Cabrera reflexiona sobre los cambios que las últimas décadas trajeron a la interacción entre los dispositivos digitales y las personas que los utilizan. El autor señala que en una actualidad en donde los componentes tecnológicos se vuelven cada vez más complejos, al tiempo que las interfaces que los usuarios deben manejar se simplifican, resulta fundamental no perder de vista la pregunta por el significado ético y social de esa interacción. Este interrogante ocupará un lugar central en los siguientes capítulos, que abordan desde diversas disciplinas y campos teóricos el problema de la relación de nuestra subjetividad humana con la tecnología digital como fenómeno clave de nuestra época. Visualization of the Geographic Space in the ekphrasis of the Libro de Alexandre with Recogito and Visone

El presente artículo se propone explorar la representación del espacio geográfico en las écfrasis del Libro de Alexandre. Con este fin, se utilizaron las herramientas gratuitas y abiertas Recogito y Visone para georreferenciar el texto y desarrollar una herramienta interactiva en línea, así como diferentes visualizaciones, que permiten explorar la información geográfica de esta obra. Mediante el análisis de estas visualizaciones se presenta una reflexión sobre lo que estas herramientas pueden aportar para la representación de la geografía en el poema, así como las limitaciones que presentan para trabajar con esta fuente específica. A partir de estas consideraciones se proponen algunas estrategias de intervención editorial, con el fin de acercar lo mejor posible el mundo cultural y la cosmovisión del espacio de la clerecía castellana del siglo XIII al público moderno a través del uso de estas herramientas.This article aims to explore the representation of geographical space in the ekphrases of the Libro de Alexandre. To this end, we used two free, open tools, Recogito and Visone, to georeference the text, and developed an interactive online tool, as well as different visualizations, which allow exploring the geographic information of this book. Through the analysis of these visualizations, we look into what these tools can contribute to the representation of geography in the poem, as well as the limitations they present to work with this specific source. Based on these considerations, we present some editorial intervention strategies to bring the cultural world and the cosmovision of the geographic space of the Castilian clergy of the 13th century closer to the modern public as best as possible with the help of these tools.Asociación Argentina de Humanidades DigitalesUniversidad Nacional de La Plat

Digital Publishing with Minimal Computing (UMD-USAL, 2020): Our Experience as Students

En este trabajo compartiremos nuestra experiencia como estudiantes del curso Digital Publishing with Minimal Computing/Ediciones digitales con minimal computing, que fue impartido en modalidad virtual por Raffaele Viglianti (University of Maryland), Gimena del Rio Riande, Romina De León y Nidia Hernández (Consejo Nacional de Investigaciones Científicas y Técnicas) entre septiembre y diciembre de 2020. Nos interesa desarrollar las oportunidades y dificultades que percibimos al trabajar con el lenguaje de marcado XML y el estándar desarrollado por la Text Encoding Initiative para abordar nuestra primera edición digital de un texto –en particular, la “Descripción de Buenos Aires”, contenida en Relación de un viaje al Río de la Plata, de Acarete du Biscay (siglo XVII), publicado tanto en inglés (1698) como en castellano (1867)–, mediante tecnologías abiertas como GitLab y Jekyll para su publicación en un sitio web. Sin duda, la metodología colaborativa empleada nos anima a emprender otras tareas y proyectos de Humanidades.Our work shares the experience of the course Digital Publishing with Minimal Computing/Ediciones digitales con minimal computing, which was taught in virtual modality by Raffaele Vigli-anti (University of Maryland) and Gimena del Rio Riande, Romina De León and Nidia Hernández (Consejo Nacional de Investigaciones Científicas y Técnicas) between September and December 2020. We are interested in ing the opportunities and difficulties that we perceived when working with the XML markup language and the standard developed by the Text Encoding Initiative to address our first digital edition of a text ‒especially, “A description of Buenos Aires”, contained in An account of a voyage up the River de la Plata, from Acarete du Biscay (17th century)‒ published in both English (1698) and Spanish (1867) and, at the same time, with open technologies such as GitLab and Jekyll to achieve its publication on a website. La cultura de los datos : Actas del II Congreso Internacional de la Asociación Argentina de Humanidades Digitales

El Segundo Congreso Internacional de Humanidades Digitales fue co-organizado por primera vez con una institución universitaria, la Facultad de Humanidades y Artes de la Universidad Nacional de Rosario. Desde el título elegido, La cultura de los datos, la sede(s), la modalidad de organización y la orientación multinivel y transdisciplinaria es reflejo del desarrollo teórico, experimental y transformador que la AAHD desea plasmar año tras año al invocar un espacio colaborativo de saberes, impulsando sus ya habituales modos de hacer y compartir proyectos durante sus jornadas. En estas Actas, la cultura de los datos aparece como el eje de las presentaciones y debates, que revisa nuestras taxonomías y prácticas en tanto creadores o usuarios de datos. Los trabajos también habilitan reflexiones sobre los modos y contextos de circulación, y sobre la difusión y preservación de datos, ya que no son ubicuos ni ahistóricos. Se reflejan aquí trabajos colaborativos, comunidades e infraestructuras, ya que “data are relata”, los datos solo tienen sentido si están relacionados con otros datos, fenómenos, procesos, personas, comunidades. The Athena X-ray Integral Field Unit: a consolidated design for the system requirement review of the preliminary definition phase

The Athena X-ray Integral Unit (X-IFU) is the high resolution X-ray spectrometer, studied since 2015 for flying in the mid-30s on the Athena space X-ray Observatory, a versatile observatory designed to address the Hot and Energetic Universe science theme, selected in November 2013 by the Survey Science Committee. Based on a large format array of Transition Edge Sensors (TES), it aims to provide spatially resolved X-ray spectroscopy, with a spectral resolution of 2.5 eV (up to 7 keV) over an hexagonal field of view of 5 arc minutes (equivalent diameter). The X-IFU entered its System Requirement Review (SRR) in June 2022, at about the same time when ESA called for an overall X-IFU redesign (including the X-IFU cryostat and the cooling chain), due to an unanticipated cost overrun of Athena. In this paper, after illustrating the breakthrough capabilities of the X-IFU, we describe the instrument as presented at its SRR, browsing through all the subsystems and associated requirements. We then show the instrument budgets, with a particular emphasis on the anticipated budgets of some of its key performance parameters. Finally we briefly discuss on the ongoing key technology demonstration activities, the calibration and the activities foreseen in the X-IFU Instrument Science Center, and touch on communication and outreach activities, the consortium organisation, and finally on the life cycle assessment of X-IFU aiming at minimising the environmental footprint, associated with the development of the instrument. Thanks to the studies conducted so far on X-IFU, it is expected that along the design-to-cost exercise requested by ESA, the X-IFU will maintain flagship capabilities in spatially resolved high resolution X-ray spectroscopy, enabling most of the original X-IFU related scientific objectives of the Athena mission to be retained. Finally, we briefly discuss the ongoing key technology demonstration activities, the calibration and the activities foreseen in the X-IFU Instrument Science Center, touch on communication and outreach activities, the consortium organisation and the life cycle assessment of X-IFU aiming at minimising the environmental footprint, associated with the development of the instrument. Thanks to the studies conducted so far on X-IFU, it is expected that along the design-to-cost exercise requested by ESA, the X-IFU will maintain flagship capabilities in spatially resolved high resolution X-ray spectroscopy, enabling most of the original X-IFU related scientific objectives of the Athena mission to be retained. La écfrasis en el Libro de Alexandre, un proyecto de edición digital para el estudio de la poesía clerical castellana del siglo XIII con minimal computing

In this article I present a digital edition project of a series of fragments of the Castilian poem known as Libro de Alexandre. Firstly, I explain the reasons for the editorial proposal, which does not have as goal the publishing of a new complete critical text, but a selection of fragments related to the topic of my doctoral research, the use of the ekphrasis in the poem. Secondly, I describe the process of semantic enrichment of the text, the XML-TEI encoding, and the minimal computing approach. Furthermore, this article aims to offer a reflection on the need to promote the use of open software in Digital Scholarly Edition projects, especially those that take place in the Global South
