Abstract: Leptin is a non-glycosylated 16 kDa protein synthesized mainly in adipose cells. The main function of leptin is to regulate energy homeostasis and weight control in a central manner. There is increasing evidence that leptin also has systemic effects, acting as a link between innate and acquired immune responses. The expression of leptin and its receptor in human dental pulp and periradicular tissues have already been described, as well as several stimulatory effects of leptin protein expression in dental and periodontal tissues. The aim of this paper was to review and to compile the reported scientific literature on the role and effects of leptin in the dental pulp and periapical tissues. Twelve articles accomplished the inclusion criteria, and a comprehensive narrative review was carried out. Review of the available scientific literature concluded that leptin has the following effects on pulpal and periapical physiology: 1) Stimulates odontogenic differentiation of dental pulp stem cells (DPSCs), 2) Increases the expression of dentin sialophosphoprotein (DSPP) and dentin matrix protein-1 (DMP-1), odontoblastic proteins involved in odontoblastic differentiation and dentin mineralization, 3) Stimulates vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) expression in human dental pulp tissue and primary cultured cells of human dental pulp (hDPCs), 4) Stimulates angiogenesis in rat dental pulp cells, and 5) Induces the expression of interleucinas 6 and 8 in human periodontal ligament cells (hPDLCs). There is evidence which suggests that leptin is implicated in the dentin mineralization process and in pulpal and periapical inflammatory and reparative responses

The information and knowledge society has grown by leaps and bounds from the impulse of the distance education and the inclusión of the ICT in teaching. This implies that teachers must be and feel digitally competent to develop their work effectively. We have developed a study to analyze three parameters that define the digital competence in teachers of the province of Badajoz: the treatment of information, the selection and creation of content and teacher communication. Together with these variables, we have included sociodemographic parameters that help us to define the keys within the configuration of the digital teaching competence, such as the gender, the age, the experience, the máximun academic degree, the educational level of teaching and the population of the teaching municipality. The results have shown as a priority, teachers give greater importance to the treatment of information and that both the age and the academic qualifications of the teacher are fundamental variables, since as the age increases and the teacher's training improves, the variables that configure the digital competence, training teachers for a correct teaching activity in digital terms, and therefor, more adapted to the needs of the contemporary school.

Toward Electrically Pumped Organic Lasers: A Review and Outlook on Material Developments and Resonator Architectures

    Get PDF
Organic lasers have undergone decades of development. A myriad of materials with excellent optical gain properties, including small molecules, dendrimers, and polymers, have been demonstrated. Various resonator geometries have also been applied. While sharing the advantages of the solution processability and mechanical flexibility features of organic materials, organic optical gain media also offer interesting optical properties, such as emission tunability through chemical functionalization and inherent large optical gain coefficients. They offer prospects for different applications in the fields of bioimaging, medicine, chemo‐ and biosensing, anticounterfeit applications, or displays. However, the realization of electrically pumped organic lasers still remains a challenge due to the inherent drawbacks of organic semiconductors, e.g., modest carrier mobility, long‐lived excited‐state absorption, and extra losses which originate in the device (e.g., absorption from metal electrodes). Herein, the past developments of organic lasers are discussed, highlighting the importance of materials and cavities with regard to the goal of electrically pumped organic lasers. The latest progress and the possible ways to address the challenge are discussed

Origin of the exclusive ternary electroluminescent behavior of BN-doped nanographenes in efficient single-component white light-emitting electrochemical cells

White‐light‐emitting electrochemical cells (WLECs) still represent a significant milestone, since only a few examples with moderate performances have been reported. Particularly, multiemissive white emitters are highly desired, as a paradigm to circumvent phase separation and voltage‐dependent emission color issues that are encountered following host:guest and multilayered approaches. Herein, the origin of the exclusive white ternary electroluminescent behavior of BN‐doped nanographenes with a B3N3 doping pattern (hexa‐perihexabenzoborazinocoronene) is rationalized, leading to one of the most efficient (≈3 cd A−1) and stable‐over‐days single‐component and single‐layered WLECs. To date, BN‐doped nanographenes have featured blue thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF). This doping pattern provides, however, white electroluminescence spanning the whole visible range (x/y CIE coordinates of 0.29–31/0.31–38 and average color rendering index (CRI) of 87) through a ternary emission involving fluorescence and thermally activated dual phosphorescence. This temperature‐dependent multiemissive mechanism is operative for both photo‐ and electroluminescence processes and holds over the device lifespan, regardless of the device architecture, active layer composition, and operating conditions. As such, this work represents a new stepping‐stone toward designing a new family of multiemissive white emitters based on BN‐doped nanographenes that realizes one of the best‐performing single‐component white‐emitting devices compared to the prior‐art
