    Estudio clínico e histoquímico de la leucemia aguda en cavidad bucal

    It was studied 15 cases; average age predominated between 7 to Iº years. The location of sharp Ieukemia was greater in gingival region 7 cases, 46.65 per cent. In the characteristic injury predominated gingival bleeding 9 cases, 60 per cent. In the histochemical study, it was determined different types of sharp leukemia according to the characteristics of blastic cells. The type of sharp linfoblastic leukemia predominated the most 8 cases, 53.3 per cent.Se estudiaron 15 casos,la edad promedio prevaleció entre 7 a 10 años. La localización de la leucemia aguda fue mayor en la región gingival, 7 casos, 46.6% en las características de la lesión prevaleció el sangrado gingival. 9 casos, 60%. En el estudio histoquímico se determinaron diferentes tipos de leucemia aguda de acuerdo a las características de las células blásticas. El tipo de leucemia aguda linfoblásticas es la que más prevaleció, 8 casos, 53.3%

    Effect Of Toxin-g From Tityus Serrulatus Scorpion Venom On Gastric Emptying In Rats.

    The effect of toxin-gamma from Tityus serrulatus scorpion venom on the gastric emptying of liquids was studied in 176 young adult male Wistar rats (2-3 months of age) divided into subgroups of 8 animals each. Toxin-gamma was injected i.v. at doses of 25, 37.5, 50 or 100 micrograms/kg and the effect on gastric emptying was assessed 30 min and 8 h later. A time-course study was also performed by injecting 50 micrograms of toxin-gamma/kg and measuring the effect on gastric emptying at times 0.25, 0.5, 1, 2, 4, 8, 24 and 48 h post-venom. Each envenomed animal was paired with its saline control and all received a saline test meal solution containing phenol red (60 micrograms/ml) as a marker. Ten minutes after administering the test meal by gavage the animals were sacrificed and gastric retention was determined by measuring the residual marker concentration of the test meal. A significant delay in gastric emptying, at 30 min and 8 h post-venom, was observed only after 50 and 100 micrograms of toxin-gamma/kg compared to control values. The responses to these two doses were significantly different after 8 h post-venom. Toxin-gamma (50 micrograms/kg) significantly delayed the gastric emptying of liquids at all times studied, with a peak response at 4 h after toxin administration compared to control values. These results indicate that the i.v. injection of toxin-gamma may induce a rapid, intense and sustained inhibition of gastric emptying 0.25 to 48 h after envenomation.32431-

    The sensitivity and specificity of an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) for the detection of circulating antigens from toxic components of Tityus serrulatus scorpion venom was determined in patients stung by T. serrulatus before antivenom administration. Thirty-seven patients were classified as mild cases and 19 as moderate or severe cases. The control absorbance in the venom assay was provided by serum samples from 100 individuals of same socioeconomic group and geographical area who had never been stung by scorpions or treated with horse antisera. The negative cutoff value (mean + 2 SD) corresponded to a venom concentration of 4.8 ng/ml. Three out of the 100 normal sera were positive, resulting in a specificity of 97%. The sensitivity of the ELISA when all cases of scorpion sting were included was 39.3%. When mild cases were excluded, the sensitivity increased to 94.7%. This study showed that this ELISA can be used for the detection of circulating venom toxic antigens in patients with systemic manifestations following. T. serrulatus sting but cannot be used for clinical studies in mild cases of envenoming since the test does not discriminate mild cases from control patients.<br>Neste trabalho foram determinadas a sensibilidade e a especificidade da técnica imunoenzimática (ELISA) desenvolvida por CHAVÉZ-OLORTEGUI et al. para detectar antígenos circulantes de veneno em pacientes picados po Tityus serrulatus. A média mais dois desvios padrão da observância do soro de 100 pacientes controles foi utilizada como limite entre teste positivo e teste negativo ("cutoff"). A especificidade do ELISA foi igual a 97,0%. A sensibilidade do método, quando incluidos pacientes classificados como casos leves, moderados e graves de escorpionismo, foi de 39,3% e aumentou para 94,7% quando considerados apenas os casos moderados e graves. Estes resultados mostram que o ELISA pode ser utilizado para detecção de antígenos tóxicos circulantes em pacientes com manifestações sistêmicas de envenenamento escorpiônico mas não deve ser empregado no estudo de pacientes que apresentam apenas dor no local da picada (casos leves). O tempo necessário para a realização do ELISA é superior a 1 hora. Portanto, o teste tem sua utilização limitada para o diagnóstico de envenenamento, mas pode constituir um instrumento útil para o estudo da cinética de neutralização do veneno pelo antiveneno específico

    Panstrongylus rufotuberculatus presenta una amplia distribución en América Central y del Sur con un comportamiento de especie silvestre. En el Perú ha sido registrado en Tumbes, Piura y Cuzco, siendo descrito en casas de localidades de este último departamento. En el presente trabajo se documenta evidencia de domiciliación de P. rufotuberculatus en la localidad de Chirinos-La Pareja, Distrito de Suyo, Provincia de Ayabaca, Región Piura, Perú (4º46'S, 79º93'W). Se capturaron 28 especímenes: 3 ninfas II, 4 ninfas III, 2 ninfas IV, 8 ninfas V, 3 machos y 8 hembras, lo que evidencia la existencia de una colonia intradomiciliar en "cuyeros" (criaderos de Cavia porcellus) camas y paredes del dormitorio de la vivienda. Exámenes parasitológicos de heces evacuadas espontáneamente fueron negativos a infección natural por Trypanosoma cruzi. A pesar de que se ha reportado la presencia de P. rufotuberculatus en localidades de Tumbes y Piura, es la primera vez que se documenta su tendencia sinantrópica en la Región. La importancia de esta especie y posteriores investigaciones permitirán evaluar su etología y potencial vectorial de trypanosomiasis americana. Se recomienda una cuidadosa actividad de vigilancia entomo-epidemiológica para esta especie y las otras que coexisten simpátricamente, actualmente en esta región del norte de Perú.<br>Panstrongylus rufotuberculatus is widely distributed in Central and South America. In Peru, it has been found in Tumbes, Piura, and Cuzco. The authors report the presence of P. rufotuberculatus in Chirinos-La Pareja, Suyo district, Ayabaca Province, Piura Region, Peru. Twenty-eight specimens were collected in two of 15 dwellings: three 2nd instar, four 3rd instar, two 4th instar, and eight 5th instar nymphs, three male and eight female, in an intra-domiciliary colony of guinea pigs (Cavia porcellus, raised indoors as a source of diet protein) and beds and bedroom walls. None of the fecal samples were naturally infected with Trypanosoma cruzi. This is the first report of synanthropic presence of P. rufotuberculatus in the region. The finding emphasizes the need for careful entomological and epidemiological surveillance of this and other triatomine species in the Region
