    Stigmatization of consensual non-monogamous partners: Perceived endorsement of conservation or openness to change values vary according to personal attitudes

    Studies have shown that romantic partners in consensual non-monogamous (CNM) relationships are targets of stigmatization. However, little is known about the underlying mechanisms and the conditions under which such stigmatization occurs. In two experimental studies (combined N = 772), we asked participants to read the description of two partners in a relationship (monogamous vs. open relationship vs. polyamorous) and make a series of judgments about those partners. Overall results showed that CNM (vs. monogamous) partners were perceived as less trustworthy and as having more sexual health concerns (Studies 1 and 2), and as being less committed and less sexually satisfied (Study 2). Results from a conditional mediation analysis (Study 2) further showed that participants with negative attitudes toward consensual non-monogamy perceived CNM (vs. monogamous) partners as having less conservation and more openness to change values, which was then associated with more stigmatization. In contrast, participants with positive attitudes toward consensual non-monogamy perceived CNM (vs. monogamous) partners as having more openness to change values, which was then associated with less stigmatization.     Social and cultural correlates of identity management strategies among lesbian and gay people: The role of intergroup structure and self-construal

    Introduction Lesbian and gay (LG) people often respond to stigmatization by managing their sexual identity. LG people may disassociate from their LGBTQ + ingroup (i.e., individual strategies) or connect to it (i.e., collective strategies). Yet, many factors that may prompt LG people to use either strategy have been generally overlooked. We explored whether socio-demographic characteristics (i.e., age and gender), perceptions of the relationship between the LGBTQ + ingroup and heterosexual outgroup, and self-construal were associated with identity management strategies among LG people. Methods A sample of 204 LG people (Mage = 29.78) was collected online via Prolific Academic between 2020 and 2021. Results Hierarchical linear regressions showed that LG people who perceived the status of their LGTBQ + ingroup relative to the heterosexual outgroup as legitimate in (im)permeable and (un)stable, contexts reported engaging in more individual strategies. Those endorsing an independent self-construal were less likely to engage in individual strategies and conveyed more LGBTQ + social support. In contrast, those with higher interdependent self-construal were more likely to engage in collective strategies. Gay men were more likely to dissociate from the LGTBQ + ingroup, whereas lesbian women were more likely to seek its support. Older LG people reported lower engagement in collective strategies. Conclusion These findings help paint a picture of how social and cultural variables factor in LG people managing their sexual identity as a possible response to stigma. Policy Implications The results can help inform policies and interventions addressing sexual identity stigma and health inequalities by emphasizing the nuances of individual-level factors among LG people.info:eu-repo/semantics/acceptedVersio

    In this paper, we discuss the likely modes of introduction of the Knight Anole (Anolis equestris) into and around Florida, provide data on its current geographic distribution, and summarize life history data in both its native and introduced Florida range. Our field data consist of collections made from 1992 through 2008 and locality data taken from the literature and systematic collections throughout the United States. Anolis equestris was first introduced in Miami-Dade County in 1952. The subsequent spread of this species in Florida has been both natural and assisted by human translocations to 10 additional counties, including Brevard, Broward, Collier, Highlands, Lee, Martin, Monroe, Palm Beach, Polk, and St. Lucie. Because this species is nonindigenous and known to consume a wide variety of items, including small vertebrates, it should be removed when encountered in the wild. A comprehensive study detailing its effects on the environment is needed

    Multicenter Phase 2 Trial of Sirolimus for Tuberous Sclerosis: Kidney Angiomyolipomas and Other Tumors Regress and VEGF- D Levels Decrease

    Tuberous sclerosis (TSC) related tumors are characterized by constitutively activated mTOR signaling due to mutations in TSC1 or TSC2.We completed a phase 2 multicenter trial to evaluate the efficacy and tolerability of the mTOR inhibitor, sirolimus, for the treatment of kidney angiomyolipomas.36 adults with TSC or TSC/LAM were enrolled and started on daily sirolimus. The overall response rate was 44.4% (95% confidence intervals [CI] 28 to 61); 16/36 had a partial response. The remainder had stable disease (47.2%, 17/36), or were unevaluable (8.3%, 3/36). The mean decrease in kidney tumor size (sum of the longest diameters [sum LD]) was 29.9% (95% CI, 22 to 37; n = 28 at week 52). Drug related grade 1-2 toxicities that occurred with a frequency of >20% included: stomatitis, hypertriglyceridemia, hypercholesterolemia, bone marrow suppression (anemia, mild neutropenia, leucopenia), proteinuria, and joint pain. There were three drug related grade 3 events: lymphopenia, headache, weight gain. Kidney angiomyolipomas regrew when sirolimus was discontinued but responses tended to persist if treatment was continued after week 52. We observed regression of brain tumors (SEGAs) in 7/11 cases (26% mean decrease in diameter), regression of liver angiomyolipomas in 4/5 cases (32.1% mean decrease in longest diameter), subjective improvement in facial angiofibromas in 57%, and stable lung function in women with TSC/LAM (n = 15). A correlative biomarker study showed that serum VEGF-D levels are elevated at baseline, decrease with sirolimus treatment, and correlate with kidney angiomyolipoma size (Spearman correlation coefficient 0.54, p = 0.001, at baseline).Sirolimus treatment for 52 weeks induced regression of kidney angiomyolipomas, SEGAs, and liver angiomyolipomas. Serum VEGF-D may be a useful biomarker for monitoring kidney angiomyolipoma size. Future studies are needed to determine benefits and risks of longer duration treatment in adults and children with TSC.Clinicaltrials.gov NCT00126672

    In this action research, we intended to address the issue on excessive workload in the warehouse sub-section of outbound logistics in warehouse north department. We applied workforce capacity planning as an intervention in addressing the above-mentioned issue and attaining effective workload management. Guided by the Job Demands-Resources Model and Gap Analysis, our team (Management Committee) came up with a customized workforce capacity plan to measure, analyze, track and apply suitable solution on workload challenges. The said intervention aims to avoid going beyond the employee’s workload capacity, as this may cause burnout resulting in detrimental performance of the employee, department and the company. With the use of workforce capacity plan, heads can make data-informed decisions, improve control of labor costs, and increase the overall operational efficiency of the department. Further, we also employed the ADKAR model to implement change. As an insider action researcher and a catalyst for positive change, it is imperative that I build awareness of the need to change and elicit the benefits of our proposed change in attaining successful implementation of our planned change. The individuals affected by the change completely grasped our team’s desire and they were cooperative towards achieving our goals. Moreover, throughout this action research study, we identified key elements in achieving effective workload management and these are having a common goal, using data-driven approach, practicing employee involvement and understating things in a holistic view. Using our applied intervention and the above-mentioned key elements, our organization recognized that when our workforce are in a state of wellbeing at work, they produce high quality output, they are cooperative, they build positive relationships with others, and most importantly, they make meaningful contributions to the company
