Advanced far infrared blocked impurity band detectors based on germanium liquid phase epitaxy
This research has shown that epilayers with residual impurity concentrations of 5 x 10{sup 13} cm{sup {minus}3} can be grown by producing the purest Pb available in the world. These epilayers have extremely low minority acceptor concentrations, which is ideal for fabrication of IR absorbing layers. The Pb LPE growth of Ge also has the advantageous property of gettering Cu from the epilayer and the substrate. Epilayers have been grown with intentional Sb doping for IR absorption on lightly doped substrates. This research has proven that properly working Ge BIB detectors can be fabricated from the liquid phase as long as pure enough solvents are available. The detectors have responded at proper wavelengths when reversed biased even though the response did not quite reach minimum wavenumbers. Optimization of the Sb doping concentration should further decrease the photoionization energy of these detectors. Ge BIB detectors have been fabricated that respond to 60 cm{sup {minus}1} with low responsivity. Through reduction of the minority residual impurities, detector performance has reached responsivities of 1 A/W. These detectors have exhibited quantum efficiency and NEP values that rival conventional photoconductors and are expected to provide a much more sensitive tool for new scientific discoveries in a number of fields, including solid state studies, astronomy, and cosmology
Non-Linear Sigma Model on the Fuzzy Supersphere
In this note we develop fuzzy versions of the supersymmetric non-linear sigma
model on the supersphere S^(2,2). In hep-th/0212133 Bott projectors have been
used to obtain the fuzzy CP^1 model. Our approach utilizes the use of
supersymmetric extensions of these projectors. Here we obtain these (super)
-projectors and quantize them in a fashion similar to the one given in
hep-th/0212133. We discuss the interpretation of the resulting model as a
finite dimensional matrix model.Comment: 11 pages, LaTeX, corrected typo
Atom gratings produced by large angle atom beam splitters
An asymptotic theory of atom scattering by large amplitude periodic
potentials is developed in the Raman-Nath approximation. The atom grating
profile arising after scattering is evaluated in the Fresnel zone for
triangular, sinusoidal, magneto-optical, and bichromatic field potentials. It
is shown that, owing to the scattering in these potentials, two
\QTR{em}{groups} of momentum states are produced rather than two distinct
momentum components. The corresponding spatial density profile is calculated
and found to differ significantly from a pure sinusoid.Comment: 16 pages, 7 figure
Dynamics of quantum quenching for BCS-BEC systems in the shallow BEC regime
The problem of coupled Fermi-Bose mixtures of an ultracold gas near a narrow
Feshbach resonance is approached through the time-dependent and complex
Ginzburg-Landau (TDGL) theory. The dynamical system is constructed using
Ginzburg-Landau-Abrikosov-Gor'kov (GLAG) path integral methods with the single
mode approximation for the composite Bosons, and the equilibrium states are
obtained in the BEC regime for adiabatic variations of the Feshbach detuning
along the stationary solutions of the dynamical system. Investigations into the
rich superfluid dynamics of this system in the shallow BEC regime yields the
onset of multiple interference patterns in the dynamics as the system is
quenched from the deep-BEC regime. This results in a partial collapse and
revival of the coherent matter wave field of the BEC, whose temporal profile is

Measurements of J/psi Decays into 2(pi+pi-)eta and 3(pi+pi-)eta
Based on a sample of 5.8X 10^7 J/psi events taken with the BESII detector,
the branching fractions of J/psi--> 2(pi+pi-)eta and J/psi-->3(pi+pi-)eta are
measured for the first time to be (2.26+-0.08+-0.27)X10^{-3} and
(7.24+-0.96+-1.11)X10^{-4}, respectively.Comment: 11 pages, 6 figure
BESII Detector Simulation
A Monte Carlo program based on Geant3 has been developed for BESII detector
simulation. The organization of the program is outlined, and the digitization
procedure for simulating the response of various sub-detectors is described.
Comparisons with data show that the performance of the program is generally

Measurements of the Mass and Full-Width of the Meson
In a sample of 58 million events collected with the BES II detector,
the process J/ is observed in five different decay
channels: , , (with ), (with
) and . From a combined fit of all five
channels, we determine the mass and full-width of to be
MeV/ and

A Measurement of Psi(2S) Resonance Parameters
Cross sections for e+e- to hadons, pi+pi- J/Psi, and mu+mu- have been
measured in the vicinity of the Psi(2S) resonance using the BESII detector
operated at the BEPC. The Psi(2S) total width; partial widths to hadrons,
pi+pi- J/Psi, muons; and corresponding branching fractions have been determined
to be Gamma(total)= (264+-27) keV; Gamma(hadron)= (258+-26) keV, Gamma(mu)=
(2.44+-0.21) keV, and Gamma(pi+pi- J/Psi)= (85+-8.7) keV; and Br(hadron)=
(97.79+-0.15)%, Br(pi+pi- J/Psi)= (32+-1.4)%, Br(mu)= (0.93+-0.08)%,
