Exact phase shifts for atom interferometry

    Get PDF
In the case of an external Hamiltonian at most quadratic in position and momentum operators, we use the ABCD formulation of atom optics to establish an exact analytical phase shift expression for atom interferometers with arbitrary spatial or temporal beam splitter configurations. This result is expressed in terms of coordinates and momenta of the wave packet centers at the interaction vertices only

    Characterization of superconducting multilayers samples

Best RF bulk niobium accelerating cavities have nearly reached their ultimate limits at rf equatorial magnetic field H 200 mT close to the thermodynamic critical field Hc. In 2006 Gurevich proposed to use nanoscale layers of superconducting materials with high values of Hc > HcNb for magnetic shielding of bulk niobium to increase the breakdown magnetic field inside SC RF cavities [1]. Depositing good quality layers inside a whole cavity is rather difficult but we have sputtered high quality samples by applying the technique used for the preparation of superconducting electronics circuits and characterized these samples by X-ray reflectivity, dc resistivity (PPMS) and dc magnetization (SQUID). Dc magnetization curves of a 250 nm thick Nb film have been measured, with and without a magnetron sputtered coating of a single or multiple stack of 15 nm MgO and 25 nm NbN layers. The Nb samples with/without the coating clearly exhibit different behaviors. Because SQUID measurements are influenced by edge and shape effects we propose to develop a specific local magnetic measurement of HC1 based on ac third harmonic analysis in order to reveal the screening effect of multilayers

On the universality of a class of annihilation-coagulation models

A class of dd-dimensional reaction-diffusion models interpolating continuously between the diffusion-coagulation and the diffusion-annihilation models is introduced. Exact relations among the observables of different models are established. For the one-dimensional case, it is shown how correlations in the initial state can lead to non-universal amplitudes for time-dependent particles density.Comment: 18 pages with no figures. Joint searches between gravitational-wave interferometers and high-energy neutrino telescopes: science reach and analysis strategies

    Get PDF
Many of the astrophysical sources and violent phenomena observed in our Universe are potential emitters of gravitational waves (GWs) and high-energy neutrinos (HENs). A network of GW detectors such as LIGO and Virgo can determine the direction/time of GW bursts while the IceCube and ANTARES neutrino telescopes can also provide accurate directional information for HEN events. Requiring the consistency between both, totally independent, detection channels shall enable new searches for cosmic events arriving from potential common sources, of which many extra-galactic objects.Comment: 4 pages. A unified approach to split absorbing boundary conditions for nonlinear Schr\"{o}dinger equations

An efficient method is proposed for numerical solutions of nonlinear Schr\"{o}dinger equations in an unbounded domain. Through approximating the kinetic energy term by a one-way equation and uniting it with the potential energy equation, absorbing boundary conditions are designed to truncate the unbounded domain, which are in nonlinear form and can perfectly absorb the waves outgoing from the truncated domain. We examine the stability of the induced initial boundary value problems defined on the computational domain with the boundary conditions by a normal mode analysis. Numerical examples are given to illustrate the stable and tractable advantages of the method.Comment: 17 pages, 6 figures, 40 conference

High-precision calculations of van der Waals coefficients for heteronuclear alkali-metal dimers

    Get PDF
Van der Waals coefficients for the heteronuclear alkali-metal dimers of Li, Na, K, Rb, Cs, and Fr are calculated using relativistic ab initio methods augmented by high-precision experimental data. We argue that the uncertainties in the coefficients are unlikely to exceed about 1%.Comment: 11 pages, 2 figs, graphicx.st
