Design considerations and test facilities for accelerated radiation effects testing

    Get PDF
Test design parameters for accelerated dose rate radiation effects tests for spacecraft parts and subsystems used in long term mission (years) are detailed. A facility for use in long term accelerated and unaccelerated testing is described

A guideline for heavy ion radiation testing for Single Event Upset (SEU)

    Get PDF
A guideline for heavy ion radiation testing for single event upset was prepared to assist new experimenters in preparing and directing tests. How to estimate parts vulnerability and select an irradiation facility is described. A broad brush description of JPL equipment is given, certain necessary pre-test procedures are outlined and the roles and testing guidelines for on-site test personnel are indicated. Detailed descriptions of equipment needed to interface with JPL test crew and equipment are not provided, nor does it meet the more generalized and broader requirements of a MIL-STD document. A detailed equipment description is available upon request, and a MIL-STD document is in the early stages of preparation

Track and capture of the orbiter with the space station remote manipulator system

    Get PDF
Results of the first study using the real-time, man-in-the-loop Systems Engineering Simulator (SES) for track and capture of the Space Shuttle Orbiter with the space station manipulator are presented. The objectives include evaluation of the operational coordination required between the orbiter pilot and the space station manipulator operator, evaluation of the locations and required number of closed-circuit television cameras, and evaluation of the orbiter grapple fixture clearance geometry. The SES is a premium quality real-time facility with full fidelity orbiter and space station crew workstations and cockpits

    Notes on strawberries.

    Get PDF
The following pages give the results of a variety test of strawberries begun in the spring of 1899. At this time seventy-five varieties were set in plats ten feet long and each plat containing two rows, four feet apart and the plants twelve inches apart in the row, so that each plat contained twenty plants. The matted row system of culture was used, and the plants were allowed to spread until they formed rows about two feet wide. In the spring of 1900 seventeen more varieties were added to the plantation. The results obtained from the plantation in 1900 were not satisfactory on account of invasion of marauders which interferred with the data of yields and the yields in this report are based on the results obtained in 1901, wtih reference, where the results semed to justify same, made to the yield of 1900. The notes on growth of plants, blossoming period and cultural notes cover the two seasons

Cherries and cherry growing in Iowa.

    Get PDF
The cherry was one of the first fruits cultivated by the early settlers. It was brought with them from the eastern states and the historic cherry pie added to the luxuries of the new home. The plantings were made to supply the home demand and it has only been in recent years that it has been planted essentially for commercial purposes. South of the 42 degree of latitude little difficulty was experienced in growing the varieties of cherries brought from the east, but north of this their cultivation was uncertain and the test winters destroyed many of the trees. Attempts were made to secure hardier varieties. Seedlings were grown and the use of hardier stocks for propagating the cherry was attempted
