Mitotic instability in benomyl-resistant transformants of a fluffy strain of Neurospora crassa

The isolation of the beta-tubulin gene from a benomyl-resistant Neurospora crassa strain (Orbach et al. 1986 Mol. Cell. Biol. 6:2452-2461) has provided a dominant selectable marker usable in transformation experiments with N. crassa

The practice of physicians and nurses in the Brazilian Family Health Programme – evidences of change in the delivery health care model

    Get PDF
The article analyzes the practice of physicians and nurses working on the Family Health Programme (Programa de Saúde da Família or PSF, in Portuguese). A questionnaire was used to assess the evidences of assimilation of the new values and care principles proposed by the programme. The results showed that a great number of professionals seem to have incorporated the practice of home visits, health education actions and planning of the teams' work agenda to their routine labour activities

Measuring the success of reducing emissions using an on-board eco-driving feedback tool

    Get PDF
This paper reports the findings of an eco-driving trial that was designed enable users to make pre-trip and on-route decisions when driving as to the optimal route to take. The basis of this paper will be to estimate how efficiently drivers are performing in relation to fuel consumption per kilometres (km). The analysis uses details on the vehicle specification, in terms of fuel efficiency, and relates this to the distance travelled to provide the user with information on the efficiency per km travelled. Eco-driving involves the training of individuals to change their driving patterns and to adapt to driving conditions. The results of the study show that eco-driving feedback is a powerful tool and how it can be used to reduce emissions

CAD identification and validation of a non-linear dynamic model for performance analysis of large-signal amplifiers

    Get PDF
We describe the CAD identification and software implementation of a Volterra-like integral series expansion for the behavioral-level simulation of communication amplifiers. The model represents an improvement with respect to the classical AM-AM AM-PM memoryless approach. The performance of the model is compared with both the AM-AM AM-PM approach and circuit-level CAD simulatio

Identification of the sex pheromone of Lutzomyia longipalpis (Lutz & Neiva, 1912) (Diptera: Psychodidae) from Asunción, Paraguay

    Get PDF
The sand fly Lutzomyia longipalpis is the main vector of Leishmania (L.) infantum (Nicolle), the causative agent of American visceral leishmaniasis (AVL) in the New World. Male Lu. longipalpis have secretory glands which produce sex pheromones in either abdominal tergites 4 or 3 and 4. These glands are sites of sex pheromone production and each pheromone type may represent true sibling species. In Latin America, apart from Lu. pseudolongipalpis Arrivillaga and Feliciangeli from Venezuela, populations of Lu. longipalpis s.l. can be identified by their male-produced sex pheromones: (S)-9-methylgermacrene-B, 3-methyl-α-himachalene and the two cembrenes, 1 and 2
