Two-scale asymptotic homogenization in a MEMS auxetic structure for over etch identification

    Get PDF
The development and optimization of Micro electro-mechanical systems (MEMS) devices, due to their small size scale, require testing and precise characterization. As an example, over etch, which is the deviation between the designed masks and the effective dimensions of the suspended parts, strongly influences the performances of MEMS; therefore, to predict the correct functioning of the device its actual value must be carefully identified. In this work, we propose an efficient, time-saving tool to identify fabrication imperfections in MEMS devices. In particular, we replace the complex geometry of a MEMS mechanical filter with an equivalent homogeneous medium, whose linear-elastic effective properties are evaluated employing two-scale asymptotic homogenization and we identify the over etch by minimizing the relative error between experimental data and corresponding predictions obtained for different combinations of over etch

: Herbal and natural products of folk medicine have been used for centuries in every culture throughout the world. One of folks medicine that has been used in Indonesia is the noni fruit. According to research conducted by I Ketut Adnyana, et al, there is a decrease in blood glucose levels from noni fruit extract with a dose of 500 mg/kg BW and 1000 mg/kg BW. This research aims to know the minimal dose of noni fruit (Morinda citrifolia L.) extract against a decrease in blood glucose levels in Wistar rats (Rattus norvegicus) induced alloxan. This study used 15 Wistar rats with diabetic induced by 130 mg/kg BW alloxan intraperitoneal. The rats were randomly divided into 5 groups; each group were given Aquades, Insulin Novomix 0,4 IU/100 gr BW, Noni fruit extract 125 mg/kg BW, 250 mg/kg BW, and 500 mg/kg BW. The result data obtained by the results of blood glucose levels evaluation on each rats on the first, second, and second day before the treatment after 6 hours, 12 hours, 18 hours, and 24 hours. Data from the measurement showed that noni fruit extracts with a dose of 125 mg/kg BW has the effect to lower blood glucose levels in Wistar rats induced alloxa

Determination of Interface Atomic Structure and Its Impact on Spin Transport Using Z-Contrast Microscopy and Density-Functional Theory

We combine Z-contrast scanning transmission electron microscopy with density-functional-theory calculations to determine the atomic structure of the Fe/AlGaAs interface in spin-polarized light-emitting diodes. A 44% increase in spin-injection efficiency occurs after a low-temperature anneal, which produces an ordered, coherent interface consisting of a single atomic plane of alternating Fe and As atoms. First-principles transport calculations indicate that the increase in spin-injection efficiency is due to the abruptness and coherency of the annealed interface.Comment: 16 pages (including cover), 4 figure

Integrated structure for a resonant micro-gyroscope and accelerometer

This paper presents the study of the mechanical behavior of a microstructure designed to detect acceleration and angular velocity simultaneously. The new resonant micro-sensor proposed, fabricated by the ThELMA© surface-micromachining technique, bases detection of two components of external acceleration (one in-plane component and one out-of plane component) and two components of angular velocity (roll and yaw) on the variation of frequency of several elements set in resonance. The device, despite its small dimensions, provides a differential decoupled detection of four external quantities thanks to the presence of four slender beams resonating in bending and four torsional resonators

The growing environmental awareness and the increasingly scarce natural resources become neediness the migration of a linear economy, based on generating, consuming and discarding, to a circular one where the waste integrate part of the raw material necessary for the generation processes. Efforts in environmental matters are not enough to mitigate the ecosystem damage. Therefore, it is necessary the compromise among all the sectors involved. In particular, in countries with clear and efficient environmental policies, construction and demolition waste (C&DW) has shown great potential for its reuse. This helps to mitigate the environmental impact of the construction industry, but a large number of countries have generated a secondary economy by creating cooperatives that deal with the classification and commercialization of the C&DWs. In our country there is no legislation on the subject, statistics are not available and the efforts made are isolated. It is time to become aware of the need to make intelligent use of available resources. In this work it is presented an analysis of the current situation in Argentina regarding the treatment of the C&DW from the normative point of view, examples of the activity (case studies) and future perspectives of the management and valorization of the C&DW
