    Get PDF
Many researches have focused on analyzing and studying the benefits of emotional intelligence could provide in training and staff development issues. The aim of this study is to compare the relationship between trait emotional intelligence of leaders with some emotional processes and how these processes affect other variables such as leadership self-efficacy, self-efficacy and collective effectiveness of a team. The sample comprised 176 students of Psychology. Each person was randomly assigned the roles of leader and follower and they were distributed to form teams. The research procedure was developed over three phases. The results showed that self-efficacy for leadership significantly influenced self-efficacy in the task of the leader and also predicted the team’s final performance; although in the latter case its influence is only partial. This research has important implications for advancing the understanding of emotions in the workplace

El emprendedor desde el enfoque de la psicología positiva

    Get PDF
In this paper, we expect to analyse the relationship between Positive Psychology and entrepreneur behaviour. Originally and since no some much time ago, psychology only concentrated in the pathology, weakness and suffering. Nowadays the emphasis is on the mental welfare or quality of life, so that the human being could, in addition of living healthy, get stronger in adversity or crisis that could experience. Typical concepts of Positive Psychology as resilience, motivation and happiness, are qualities of the entrepreneur. The entrepreneur has an special feeling to detect opportunities, mobilize resources, link information or has innovative ideas. In short, to find opportunities where other people don´t see it or make thoughts real. Having entrepreneur´s nature is to do things, to get up with more strength when you have fallen and to be optimist living with uncertainty. Therefore, the study of entrepreneur´s behaviour and sucess can´t be understood if we don´t take the point of view of Positive Psychology

Characterising epithelial tissues using persistent entropy

In this paper, we apply persistent entropy, a novel topological statistic, for characterization of images of epithelial tissues. We have found out that persistent entropy is able to summarize topological and geometric information encoded by \alpha-complexes and persistent homology. After using some statistical tests, we can guarantee the existence of significant differences in the studied tissues.Comment: 12 pages, 7 figures, 4 table

The anti-inflammatory activity of the chloroform, methanol and aqueous extracts of Wigandia urens and Acalypha alopecuroides were investigated on carrageenan-induced paw edema at doses of 400 mg/kg. The three extracts of W. urens, and the aqueous extract of A. alopecuroides caused significantinhibition of the edema (58.1±6.5% and 63.5±5.4%, respectively). Indomethacin was used as positive control (8 mg/kg), and inhibited edema by 66.3±5.2%. The methanol extract of W. urens and the aqueous extract of A. alopecuroides, at doses of 200 mg/kg, inhibited pellet implantation-induced granuloma formation by 69.4±6.5 and 70.6±6.6%, respectively. These levels of inhibition are higher than those exhibited by naproxen at doses of 50 mg/kg (46.1±7.1%). Both extracts showed activity on adjuvantinduced arthritis in rats, with the best effect being observed after 96 h (82.2±4.6 and 80.6±7.3%, respectively)

A study of the composition of the Obsoletus complex and genetic diversity of Culicoides obsoletus populations in Spain

Background: The Culicoides obsoletus species complex (henceforth ‘Obsoletus complex’) is implicated in the transmission of several arboviruses that can cause severe disease in livestock, such as bluetongue, African horse sickness, epizootic hemorrhagic disease and Schmallenberg disease. Thus, this study aimed to increase our knowledge of the composition and genetic diversity of the Obsoletus complex by partial sequencing of the cytochrome c oxidase I (cox1) gene in poorly studied areas of Spain. Methods: A study of C. obsoletus populations was carried out using a single-tube multiplex polymerase chain reaction (PCR) assay that was designed to differentiate the Obsoletus complex sibling species Culicoides obsoletus and Culicoides scoticus, based on the partial amplification of the cox1 gene, as well as cox1 georeferenced sequences from Spain available at GenBank. We sampled 117 insects of the Obsoletus complex from six locations and used a total of 238 sequences of C. obsoletus (ss) individuals (sampled here, and from GenBank) from 14 sites in mainland Spain, the Balearic Islands and the Canary Islands for genetic diversity and phylogenetic analyses. Results: We identified 90 C. obsoletus (ss), 19 Culicoides scoticus and five Culicoides montanus midges from the six collection sites sampled, and found that the genetic diversity of C. obsoletus (ss) were higher in mainland Spain than in the Canary Islands. The multiplex PCR had limitations in terms of specificity, and no cryptic species within the Obsoletus complex were identified. Conclusions: Within the Obsoletus complex, C. obsoletus (ss) was the predominant species in the analyzed sites of mainland Spain. Information about the species composition of the Obsoletus complex could be of relevance for future epidemiological studies when specific aspects of the vector competence and capacity of each species have been identified. Our results indicate that the intraspecific divergence is higher in C. obsoletus (ss) northern populations, and demonstrate the isolation of C. obsoletus (ss) populations of the Canary Islands. Tool wear study in edge trimming on basalt fibre reinforced plastics

[EN] In machining of reinforced fibre composite parts, abrasive fibres and material heterogeneity produce poor surface finish, delamination and tool wear. In this research, basalt fibre reinforced plastic is machined with edge trimming in order to study tool wear, using a tool holder of diameter 25 mm, with two exchangeable uncoated carbide cutting inserts. Cutting conditions (cutting speed, feed per tooth and depth) and material characteristics (fibre volume fraction and fibre orientation) are evaluated to know their influence in the flank wear (Vb) of the tool. An analysis of variance (ANOVA) was performed to study flank wear and material removal rate, and a generalized linear model (GLM) was developed. More influence variables in the flank wear are the machining conditions, being the tool life suitable for this machining and material. This work was funded by the Research Project DPI2013-44903-R-AR of the MINER.Navarro-Mas, M.; Meseguer, MD.; Sánchez Galdón, AI.; Gutiérrez, SC.
