Supplementary heat requirements when brooding tom turkey poults
In this study, the supplementary heat required when brooding turkey poults in winter and summer in the Kahramanmaras region of Turkey was determined using a heat and humidity balance method for a naturally ventilated house with a capacity of 6500 tom turkey poults. In the calculation of heat and humidity balance, temperature values, sensible heat and moisture production of tom turkey poults were taken from the American Society of Agricultural Engineers (ASAE) standards for corresponding turkey poult weights, and outside long term (1980 - 2005) monthly average temperatures were obtained from a local climate station. The coldest and warmest crucial months were determined as January (6.5 °C) and August (29.2 °C), respectively. When brooding was initiated in the first week of January, supplementary heat was needed for the subsequent five weeks, being 32937, 27028, 21721, 9476 and 5400 W per week, respectively. When brooding started in the first week of August, poults needed only 5544 W supplementary heat. However, tom turkey poults would nevertheless benefit from supplementary heat during this period because they are not yet fully feathered and the digestive system has not yet fully developed
Two cases of acneiform eruption induced by inhibitor of epidermal growth factor receptor
WOS: 000249007200006PubMed ID: 17641540Background: Cetuximab is a member of a new family of antineoplastic agents that inhibit the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGF-R), and which are increasingly being used in the treatment of solid tumors. Methods: We have observed new secondary side effects. We present here 2 patients with acneiform eruption secondary to the administration of cetuximab (IMC-C225, Erbitux). The diagnoses of these patients were adenocarcinoma. Results: Histologically, a superficial purulent folliculitis and disordered differentiation with focal parakeratosis were observed. The follicular eruption responded favorably to treatment with 5% benzoyl peroxide and 4% erythromycin gel. These lesions healed within a few days after treatment. Conclusion: The cutaneous adverse effects of cetuximab are similar to other EGF-R-targeted agents and result from direct interference with the functions of EGF-R signaling in the skin. Acousto-holographic reconstruction of whole-cell stiffness maps
Accurate assessment of cell stiffness distribution is essential due to the critical role of cell mechanobiology in regulation of vital cellular processes like proliferation, adhesion, migration, and motility. Stiffness provides critical information in understanding onset and progress of various diseases, including metastasis and differentiation of cancer. Atomic force microscopy and optical trapping set the gold standard in stiffness measurements. However, their widespread use has been hampered with long processing times, unreliable contact point determination, physical damage to cells, and unsuitability for multiple cell analysis. Here, we demonstrate a simple, fast, label-free, and high-resolution technique using acoustic stimulation and holographic imaging to reconstruct stiffness maps of single cells. We used this acousto-holographic method to determine stiffness maps of HCT116 and CTC-mimicking HCT116 cells and differentiate between them. Our system would enable widespread use of whole-cell stiffness measurements in clinical and research settings for cancer studies, disease modeling, drug testing, and diagnostics.ISSN:2041-172
Você conhece esta SÃndrome? Do you know this syndrome?
Trata-se de entidade rara e benigna, que deve ser incluÃda na diagnose diferencial das hiperpigmentações mucocutâneas.<br>Laugier-Hunziker syndrome is an acquired macular hyperpigmentation of the oral and genital mucosa, often associated with longitudinal melanonychia. We report a case of longitudinal melanonychia on ?ngernails and toenails, hutchinson's signal and lenticular pigmentation of her lips and oral mucosa. Histopathological analysis is tipical and had a broad differential diagnosis. This is a rare and benign entity, which should be included in the differential diagnosis of mucocutaneous hyperpigmentation
