Lifting clamp positively grips structural shapes

    Get PDF
Welded steel clamps securely grip structural shapes of various sizes for crane operations. The clamp has adjustable clamping jaws and screw-operated internal v-jaws and provides greater safety than hoisting slings presently used. The structural member can be rotated in any manner, angle, or direction without being released by the clamp

Maternal Diet, Breast Feeding and Infants' Growth: A fieldstudy in the Ivory Coast (West Africa)

Four mothers and their infants living in a rural village of the Ivory Coast were studied for maternal diet, breast milk composition and volume and infants' growth over an 18 months' period. Two of the mothers were young, had a low calorie intake and gave little supplementary nourishment to their infants; these infants had an unsatisfactory growth pattern. Two mothers were middle-aged, had a satisfactory calorie intake and their infants thrived well on breast milk alone for the first 6 months. Supplements were introduced by those mothers after their infant was 6 months old which provided adequate energy and protein intake and had a beneficial effect on the growth of the infants. Detailed biochemical analyses of diets and breast milk have been performed and dietary allowances are discussed in the light of the present results. Despite important differences in dietary intake the milks produced by the four mothers showed no significant differences in biochemical composition. The mothers with low calorie and low protein intake produced however smaller quantities of breast milk when the infants were 4 to 7 months old. Since breast milk provides a substantial amount of protein and calories for the infants even in late lactation, the implication with regard to adequate growth of the infants is to provide adequate dietar

Nonlinear Performance of BAW Filters Including BST Capacitors

    Get PDF
This paper evaluates the nonlinear effects occurring in a bulk acoustic wave (BAW) filter which includes barium strontium titanate (BST) capacitors to cancel the electrostatic capacitance of the BAW resonators. To do that we consider the nonlinear effects on the BAW resonators by use of a nonlinear Mason model. This model accounts for the distributed nonlinearities inherent in the materials forming the resonator. The whole filter is then implemented by properly connecting the resonators in a balanced configuration. Additional BST capacitors are included in the filter topology. The nonlinear behavior of the BST capacitors is also accounted in the overall nonlinear assessment. The whole circuit is then used to evaluate its nonlinear behavior. It is found that the nonlinear contribution arising from the ferroelectric nature of the BST capacitors makes it impractical to fulfill the linearity requirements of commercial filters

Variational solution of the Yang-Mills Schr\"odinger equation in Coulomb gauge

The Yang-Mills Schr\"odinger equation is solved in Coulomb gauge for the vacuum by the variational principle using an ansatz for the wave functional, which is strongly peaked at the Gribov horizon. A coupled set of Schwinger-Dyson equations for the gluon and ghost propagators in the Yang-Mills vacuum as well as for the curvature of gauge orbit space is derived and solved in one-loop approximation. We find an infrared suppressed gluon propagator, an infrared singular ghost propagator and a almost linearly rising confinement potential.Comment: 24 pages, revtex, 13 figure

Quantum phase space picture of Bose-Einstein Condensates in a double well: Proposals for creating macroscopic quantum superposition states and a study of quantum chaos

We present a quantum phase space model of Bose-Einstein condensate (BEC) in a double well potential. In a two-mode Fock-state analysis we examine the eigenvectors and eigenvalues and find that the energy correlation diagram indicates a transition from a delocalized to a fragmented regime. Phase space information is extracted from the stationary quantum states using the Husimi distribution function. It is shown that the quantum states are localized on the known classical phase space orbits of a nonrigid physical pendulum, and thus the novel phase space characteristics of a nonrigid physical pendulum such as the π\pi motions are seen to be a property of the exact quantum states. Low lying states are harmonic oscillator like libration states while the higher lying states are Schr\"odinger cat-like superpositions of two pendulum rotor states. To study the dynamics in phase space, a comparison is made between a displaced quantum wavepacket and the trajectories of a swarm of points in classical phase space. For a driven double well, it is shown that the classical chaotic dynamics is manifest in the dynamics of the quantum states pictured using the Husimi distribution. Phase space analogy also suggests that a π\pi phase displaced wavepacket put on the unstable fixed point on a separatrix will bifurcate to create a superposition of two pendulum rotor states - a Schr\"odinger cat state (number entangled state) for BEC. It is shown that the choice of initial barrier height and ramping, following a π\pi phase imprinting on the condensate, can be used to generate controlled entangled number states with tunable extremity and sharpness.Comment: revised version, 13 pages, 13 figure

Les risques (limités) du métier… La dimension de l’expertise dans le continuum exolingue/endolingue

    Get PDF
The first part of this article serves as a review of relevant literature justifying the particular study design. Special attention is drawn to the role of expertise in symmetric and asymmetric communication. In the second part, the actual study is described. In a medical setting, participants have to explain a medical intervention to four different groups of peers. Analysis of these four interventions reveals four distinct phases of (co)construction of expertise

Multipole Expansion of Bremsstrahlung in Intermediate Energy Heavy Ion Collisions

    Get PDF
Using a multipole expansion of the radiated field generated by a classical electric current, we present a way to interprete the bremsstrahlung spectra of low energy heavy ion collisions. We perform the calculation explicitely for the system ^{12}C+ ^{12}C at 84AMeV and compare the result with the experimental data of E. Grosse et al. Using simple model assumptions for the electromagnetic source current we are able to describe the measured data in terms of coherent photon emission. In this context, the information contained in the measured data is discussed.Comment: LaTex, 4 Figure

Producer Opinions on Antibiotic Use in the Beef Industry

    Get PDF
Antibiotic use in the beef industry is of increasing interest to consumers and has become a point of discussion for producers, veterinarians, and professional scientists in recent years. With the vast amount of information available on the internet and social media, consumers are becoming more knowledgeable about beef production practices and the use of antibiotics in the food animal industries. Furthermore, scientists have devoted a large amount of time and money to research to investigate consumer opinions and perspectives about management practices used in food animal production. However, many of these investigations fail to include the opinions and perspectives of the producers who raise these animals. Therefore, the objective of this survey was to explore producer practices and opinions on antibiotic use and antibiotic resistance in the beef industry
