Isotropic extensions of the vacuum solutions in general relativity

    Get PDF
In this work, we obtain isotropic extensions of the usual spherically symmetric vacuum geometries in general relativity. Exact and perturbative solutions are derived. The classes of geometries obtained include black holes in compact and noncompact universes, wormholes in the interior region of cosmological horizons, and anti-de Sitter geometries with excess/deficit solid angle. The tools developed here are applicable in more general contexts.Comment: 12 pages, 6 figures. Version to be published in Physical Review

A CFD-based Approach to Predict Explosion Overpressure: A Comparison to Current Methods

    Get PDF
A CFD-based approach has been developed in this work to predict the overpressure produced during an explosion. An adiabatic exothermal reaction allows computing the explosion energy release. To validate the proposed CFD approach, overpressure predictions based on this methodology are compared with results produced with the TNObased method. It is demonstrated that the physics adopted in our model produces satisfactory predictions in the open area. The CFD simulations were carried out in the ANSYS CFX tool. The source of energy corresponds to the one produced by a stoichiometric proportion in reactants without energy generation. The explosion analysis considered that explosion occurs geometrically as a sequence of control volumes. Thus, the explosion in a volume is assumed to occur when the maximum pressure is achieved in the previous control volume. This way, the explosion is propagated and it is shown that it is equivalent to conventional predicting methods

Substituted 1,3-diazabicyclo[3.1.0]hexanes with two contiguous quaternary stereocentres are readily prepared by catalytic asymmetric [3+2] cycloaddition of α-substituted iminoesters with azirines. High diastereoselectivities and enantioselectivities (up to 98% ee) are achieved using CuI/(R)-Fesulphos as the catalytic systemWe thank the Spanish Ministerio de Economía, Industria y Competitividad (Grant CTQ2015-66954-P, MINECO/FEDER, UE) and FEDER/Ministerio de Ciencia, Innovación y Universidades – Agencia Estatal de Investigación (Grant PGC2018-098660-B-I00) for financial suppor

Promoting dignified end-of-life care in the emergency department: a qualitative study

    Get PDF
Background: Preservation of a dying person’s dignity in the emergency department (ED) is fundamental for the patient, his/her relatives and healthcare professionals. The aim of this study was to explore and interpret physicians’ and nurses’ experiences regarding conservation of dignity in end-of-life care in dying patients in the ED. Methods: A qualitative study based on the hermeneutic phenomenological approach, was carried out in the emergency department of two general hospitals. A total of 16 nurses and 10 physicians participated in the study. Data collection included 12 individual in-depth interviews and 2 focus groups. Results: The findings revealed that two themes represent the practices and proposals for the conservation of dignity in the emergency department: dignified care in hostile surroundings and the design of a system focused on the person’s dignity. Conclusion: Dignifying treatment, redesigning environmental conditions, and reorienting the healthcare system can contribute to maintaining dignity in end-of-life care in the ED

Characterization, conservation and loss of dignity at the end-of- life in the emergency department. A qualitative protocol

    Get PDF
Aims: to explore and understand the experiences of terminally-ill patients and their relatives regarding dignity during end-of-life care in the emergency department. Background: the respect given to the concept of dignity is significantly modifying the clinical relationship and the care framework involving the end-of-life patient in palliative care units, critical care units, hospices and their own homes. This situation is applicable to in-hospital emergency departments, where there is a lack of research which takes the experiences of end-of-life patients and their relatives into account. Design: a phenomenological qualitative study. Methods: the protocol was approved in December 2016 and will be carried out from December 2016 to December 2020. The Gadamer's philosophical underpinnings will be used in the design and development of the study. The data collection will include participant observation techniques in the Emergency Department, in-depth interviews with terminally-ill patients and focus groups with their relatives. For the data analysis, the field notes and verbatim transcriptions will be read and codified using ATLAS.ti software to search for emerging themes. Discussion: emerging themes that contribute to comprehending the phenomenon of dignity in end-of-life care in the Emergency Department are expected to be found. This study's results could have important implications in the implementation of new interventions in Emergency Departments. These interventions would be focused on improving: the social acceptance of death, environmental conditions, promotion of autonomy and accompaniment, and assumption (takeover) of dignified actions and attitudes (respect for human rights)

Palabras clave: Contabilidad creativa, fraudes financieros, maquillaje  contable  ABSTRACT  This research analyzes the main creative accounting techniques used in different companies. After reviewing the literature in major  international electronic data  bases, we start  with the  definitions  presented by renowned authors; and  the  delimitation between legality, ethics  and to the development creative fraudulent financial statements. Subsequently, we analyze the causes and motivations that encourage the directors of a company to do creative accounting practices. In a following section, we pre- sent the methodology used that it was theoretical nature-documentary. We perform search literature was made between the years 1987-2015, in scientific databases and the use  of selection criteria using keywords like: creative accounting, accounting makeup, earnings management, crisis and accounting fraud. This allowed us to demonstrate some empirical evidence that develop creative accounting realities of countries such as the United States, several countries in Europe and Latin America such as: Mexico, Venezuela, Chile and Ecuador. Finally we perform an analysis of methodologies used in creative accounting and their different points of view so as to help raise awareness and lessen the gaps in the accounting regulatory framework, as well as avoid using these techniques do not allow reflect reality financial economic entities.  Keywords: Creative accounting, financial fraud, accounting makeu

Detailed damage mechanisms assessment in composite materials by means of X-ray tomography

This research focused on the evaluation of damage formation on ±45º carbon fiber laminates subjected to tensile tests. The damage was evaluated by means of X-ray tomography. A high density of cracks developed during the plateau of the stress-strain curve and were qualitatively analyzed, showing that the inner plies eventually developed a higher crack concentration than the outer plies. Delamination started to occur in the outermost ply interface when the slope after the plateau of the stress-strain curve began to increase

Revisión del manejo perioperatorio de anticoagulantes y antiagregantes

    Get PDF
Many drugs are important at perioperative context. Anticoagulants and antiplatelet are two of the most problematic and risky drugs during surgery if they are not correctly managed, due to the difficult balance between thrombotic and hemorrhagic risk. Even more, the increase in the use of these drugs emphasizes the importance of the constant review and actualization of our attitude towards pre, intra and postoperative use of them in this context. This review is based on the recomendations from the last consensus document of the Grupo de Trabajo de Trombosis Cardiovascular of Spanish Society of Cardiology, recognized by a wide range of scientific societies who participe allong the perioperative period including in one document the most relevant and actualized information. &nbsp
