Maternity testing in a chimerical child

Abstract. Human congenital chimerism is due to the coexistence of two genetically different cell lines either in the whole body or limited to the blood. We present a case of maternity in which the alleged child has ambiguous genitalia, and chimerism was suspected. The maternity was dubious and the father was not available for the study. STR typing of the child revealed the presence of X an Y chromosomes at Amelogenin locus and a double maternal and paternal alleles contribution in certain autosomical loci. We could not exclude maternal relationship between the alleged mother and the child. Molecular analysis performed with highly discriminating STR systems allowed us to clarify the origin of a chimerical individual.

Labour, body, and social conflict: the “digital smile” and emotional work in call centres

The aim of this chapter is to look into some of the contributions of the sociology of bodies/emotions in order to understand the manifestations of social conflict linked to new labour scenarios, as a starting point from which to understand the processes of social structuration. Specifically, the purpose here is to explore a few of the meaningful dimensions of conflicts associated with the Call Centres sector in Argentina. Based on this objective, the following argumentative strategy is proposed. Firstly, several general theoretical considerations underpinning the analysis will be made. Secondly, the processes of work insecurity observed in the sector from the emergence of precarious bodies will be described. Thirdly, the ?potentiality for collective action? of the bodies-that-work will be especially problematized, emphasizing the issue of ?emotional work?, as a privileged standpoint for its interpretation. In the conclusions, we will recast the phrase ?slavery of the souls? (Colectivo Situaciones 2006) in order to problematize, from the perspective of the actors, the meaning of the social mechanisms previously linked between digital and emotional work.Fil: Lisdero, Pedro Matías. Baculovirus Insecticides in Latin America: Historical Overview, Current Status and Future Perspectives

Baculoviruses are known to regulate many insect populations in nature. Their host-specificity is very high, usually restricted to a single or a few closely related insect species. They are amongst the safest pesticides, with no or negligible effects on non-target organisms, including beneficial insects, vertebrates and plants. Baculovirus-based pesticides are compatible with integrated pest management strategies and the expansion of their application will significantly reduce the risks associated with the use of synthetic chemical insecticides. Several successful baculovirus-based pest control programs have taken place in Latin American countries. Sustainable agriculture (a trend promoted by state authorities in most Latin American countries) will benefit from the wider use of registered viral pesticides and new viral products that are in the process of registration and others in the applied research pipeline. The success of baculovirus-based control programs depends upon collaborative efforts among government and research institutions, growers associations, and private companies, which realize the importance of using strategies that protect human health and the environment at large. Initiatives to develop new regulations that promote the use of this type of ecological alternatives tailored to different local conditions and farming systems are underway
