To evaluate the impact of the use of face masks on oral hygiene habits; oral conditions self-perception; reasons to seek dental treatment; and esthetic concerns. 1346 participants answered a web-based survey with questions related to the aims of the stu

Incisors’ bone height and inclination changes after orthodontic treatment with a self-ligating passive system

This study aimed to evaluate changes in the alveolar buccal bone height of maxillary and mandibular incisors after orthodontic treatment with a self-ligating passive system and to assess the correlation between bone height and incisor inclination.Pre (T1) and post-treatment (T2) cone-beam computed tomography images of patients treated with the Damon 3MX appliance system were measured to quantify the alveolar buccal bone height of the maxillary incisors. The incisor’s inclination was measured in digital models. Paired t-test was used to evaluate the changes between T1 and T2, and Pearson’s coefficient was used to test the correlation. All teeth presented statistically significant alveolar buccal bone loss at T2. A statistically significant buccal inclination was observed only for the lower left lateral incisors. There was no correlation between bone height changes and incisor inclination.Orthodontic treatment with a self-ligating passive system showed changes in alveolar height, but these changes were not correlated with incisor inclination

Reliability and accuracy of a radiographic analysis method for posterior maxillary mini-implant location

OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the reliability and accuracy of a radiographic analysis method for the location of mini-implants inserted in the posterior region of the maxilla. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Two self-drilling mini-implants were installed between the second premolar and the first molar on the right side and left side in three dry skulls. Three operators performed three occlusal radiographs, using an occlusal x-ray film holder, at three different times in each of the three skulls. RESULTS: The interclass correlation coefficient showed a significantly high, positive correlation (

To evaluate the skeletal and dentoalveolar effects after miniscrew assisted rapid palatal expansion (MARPE) and their correlation with the age of the patients. Settings and sample population: Sample comprised 19 patients with maxillary atresia and poster

Orthodontic Movement of Central Incisor with Previously-healed Root Fracture associated with Unerupted Canines

Teeth with root fracture may need orthodontic treatment. This case report presents the management of unerupted canines in a patient with previously-healed/untreated horizontal root fracture in the maxillary left central incisor. The malocclusion was treated maintaining pulp vitality considering the principles to improve the eruption path of maxillary canines and move short-rooted teeth. The root-fractured tooth remained symptomless after orthodontic treatment without significant adverse effects, and stayed stable following 2-year follow-up

Correlation between the Rotation of the First Molars and the Severity of Class II Division 1 Malocclusion

This study aimed to evaluate the potential correlation between the severity of Class II division 1 malocclusion and the magnitude of mesiopalatal rotation of the maxillary first molars. Scanned images of 104 cast models were grouped according to the severity of Class II malocclusion as follows: Group 1, 1/4 Class II malocclusion; Group 2, 1/2 Class II malocclusion; Group 3, 3/4 Class II malocclusion; and Group 4, complete Class II malocclusion. The rotation was measured using parameters described by Henry, Friel, and Ricketts, referred to as indicators 1, 2, and 3, respectively. The correlation was evaluated using the Spearman's correlation coefficient. The rotational indicators were compared using one-way analysis of variance. For all statistical analyses used < 0.05, a positive correlation was observed between the severity of Class II malocclusion and the mesiopalatal rotation of the maxillary first molar. This correlation was statistically significant for indicator 1 between Groups 1 and 3 and for indicator 2 between Groups 1 and 4, which include cases of extreme malocclusion. In conclusion, there is a positive correlation between the severity of Class II division 1 malocclusion and the magnitude of mesiopalatal rotation in the maxillary first molars
