    Self-degradation of heat shock proteins

    The 70-kDa heat shock protein of Drosophila decays in vivo at a much faster rate than other abundantly labeled proteins. Degradation also occurs in vitro, even during electrophoresis. It appears that this degradation is not mediated by a general protease and that the 70-kDa heat shock protein has a slow proteolytic action upon itself. Heat-induced proteins in CHO cells and a mouse cell line also degrade spontaneously in vitro, as do certain non-heat shock proteins from Drosophila tissues as well as the cell lines

    Die Kommunalwahlen in Moskau vom 10. September endeten erwartungsgemäß mit einem überwältigenden Sieg der Partei "Einiges Russland". Drei von vier zukünftigen Abgeordneten in den Kommunalvertretungen gehören der Regierungspartei an. Und dennoch waren die Wahlen ein Erfolg für die Opposition: Weit über 200 oppositionell gesinnten Kandidaten gelang der Einzug in die Kommunalvertretungen. Ein großer Teil von ihnen hat sich zu einer informellen Koalition um den ehemaligen Duma-Abgeordneten Dmitrij Gudkow zusammengeschlossen. Ob sie diesem allerdings zu einer Kandidatur bei der Bürgermeisterwahl in Moskau 2018 verhelfen können, ist fraglich. Denn zur Überwindung des "kommunalen Filters" - einem administrativen Instrument zur Einschränkung von Kandidaturen - wäre der Einzug in noch mehr Kommunalräte notwendig gewesen. Daher bleibt nur die Hoffnung auf eine Wahlrechtsreform - und darauf, dass die partizipatorische Arbeit in der lokalen Selbstverwaltung Moskaus zum Vorbild im ganzen Land wird

    Control of the colossal magnetoresistance by strain effect in Nd0.5_{0.5}Ca0.5_{0.5}MnO3_{3} thin films

    Thin films of Nd0.5_{0.5}Ca0.5_{0.5}MnO3_{3} manganites with colossal magnetoresistance (CMR) properties have been synthesized by the Pulsed Laser Deposition technique on (100)-SrTiO3_{3}. The lattice parameters of these manganites and correlatively their CMR properties can be controlled by the substrate temperature TST_{S}. The maximum CMR effect at 75K, calculated as the ratio ρ(H=0T)/ρ(H=7T)\rho (H=0T)/\rho (H=7T) is 104^4 for a deposition temperature of TS=680T_{S}=680 degC. Structural studies show that the Nd0.5_{0.5}Ca0.5_{0.5}MnO3_{3} film is single phase, [010]-oriented and has a pseudocubic symmetry of the perovskite subcell with a=3.77A˚\AA at room temperature. We suggest that correlation between lattice parameters, CMR and substrate temperature TST_{S} result mainly from substrate-induced strains which can weaken the charge-ordered state at low temperature.Comment: 9 pages, 4 figures.     Thin films of Sm0.5Ca0.5MnO3 manganites with charge ordering (CO) properties and colossal magnetoresistance were synthesized by pulsed laser deposition technique on (100)-SrTiO3 and (100)-LaAlO3 substrates. We first compare the structural modifications as function of the substrate and film thickness. Secondly, measuring transport properties in magnetic fields up to 24T, we establish the temperature-field phase diagram describing the stability of the CO state and compare it to bulk material. We show that some structural modification induced by the substrate occurs and that the CO melting magnetic field is greatly reduced. Moreover, with the temperature decrease, no modification of the lattice parameters is observed. We then propose an explanation based on the quenching of the unit cell of the film that adopts the in-plane lattice parameters of the substrate and thus, prevents the complete growth of the CO state at low temperature.Comment: to be published in Journal of Applied Physic

Dabei werden zwei Faktoren analysiert: die Abhängigkeit der Stimmergebnisse von der Wahlbeteiligung und die Verteilung der Wahlkommissionen nach Wahlbeteiligung. Die statistische Untersuchung ergibt, dass in vielen Fällen die Ergebnisse der Wahlen zwischen 2007 und 2011 offensichtlich "handgemacht" - also gefälscht oder verfälscht - waren

    The article investigates the electoral statistics of Ukrainian Presidential Elections 25 May 2014. Conventional division of Ukraine into three parts - the eastern, central and western - shows significant differences both political preferences and voting activity. The correlation between these two indicators exclude the possibility of a study by the Sobyanin-Soukhovolsky criterium. However, in separate parts of Ukraine there is more uniformity. Distribution of election commissions on turnout for Ukraine as a whole and for most regions indicates the absence of “ballot stuffing”.В статье исследована статистика голосования на выборах Президента Украины 25 мая 2014 г. Условное деление Украины на три части - восточную, центральную и западную - показывает значительные различия как по политическим предпочтениям, так и по активности участия в голосовании. Корреляция между этими двумя показателями исключает возможность исследования по критерию Собянина-Суховольского. Однако внутри частей Украины наблюдается большая однородность. Распределение участковых комиссий по явке для Украины в целом и для большинства областей свидетельствует об отсутствии «вбросов бюллетеней»

    Suporte ventilatório em UTI neonatal, prognósticos e desfechos clínicos

Métodos: Estudo observacional analítico, longitudinal prospectivo, de abordagem quantitativa, realizado em uma UTI neonatal no oeste paranaense. Foram incluídos os RN hospitalizados no período de julho a novembro de 2021, sendo categorizados de acordo com o suporte ventilatório utilizado: grupo invasivo (GI), não-invasivo (GNI) e sem suporte (GSS). A análise foi realizada calculando-se médias de frequência simples e teste exato de Fisher para comparar as variáveis de avaliação clínica em relação ao suporte invasivo e não-invasivo. Resultados: Dos 56 RN, 53,6% são do sexo masculino, 64,3% brancos, 69,6% das mães entre 19 a 35 anos e 62,5% casadas. Entre os que utilizaram suporte ventilatório, no GNI 35% são a termo e 45% baixo peso, no GI 28,6% são pré-termo moderado e 42,9% baixo peso. Do GI, 57,1% apresentaram piora após suporte ventilatório e 100% do GNI melhora. Em relação ao desfecho, 100% GNI teve alta e 57,1% do GI óbito. Conclusões: Neonatos do sexo feminino, idade gestacional a termo, filhos de mães entre 19 a 35 anos, negras e pardas e com risco gestacional alto caracterizam o GNI e que tiveram melhores prognósticos e desfechos. O suporte ventilatório invasivo foi necessário em neonatos de extrema prematuridade e extremo baixo peso, houve prevalência de sepse e óbitos neste grup

    Concerns como componentes reutilizáveis em simulações baseadas em agentes de software

    A modelagem e simulação baseada em agentes, ou Agent-based Modeling and Simulation (ABMS), é um paradigma de simulação que usa agentes simulados para reproduzir e estudar eventos específicos. A partir deste modelo, é possível observar o comportamento de um agente inserido em um conjunto de indivíduos autônomos. Entre as áreas de aplicação pode-se citar desastres, gerenciamento ambiental, mobilidade e transporte. Apesar do seu potencial, muitas ferramentas disponíveis atualmente que suportam ABMS não possuem recursos para facilitar o reuso dos elementos de uma simulação. Há uma abordagem de desenvolvimento dirigida a modelos focada em ABMS com potencial para o reuso. Esta abordagem inclui uma linguagem específica de domínio chamada ABStractLang e a ferramenta que implementa a linguagem, denominada ABStractme. Esta monografia propõe a extensão desta abordagem, a partir do refinamento de um conceito previamente definido -concern - para a modularização de simulações. Este refinamento visa o reuso de concerns desenvolvidos em diversas simulações, a partir da definição de sua interface. Por fim, a ferramenta ABStractme, que dá suporte à abordagem dirigida a modelos, foi evoluída para incorporar a extensão proposta.Agent-based modeling and simulation (ABMS) is a simulation paradigm where simulated agents are used to reproduce specific events so that they can be studied. With this model it is possible to observe the behavior of an agent inserted in a set of autonomous individuals. Areas of application include disasters, environmental management, mobility and transportation. Despite its potential, most tools currently available that support ABMS do not have the capabilities to facilitate the reuse of the elements of a simulation. There is a model-driven approach to development focused on ABMS with potential for reuse. This approach includes a domain-specific language called ABStractLang and the tool that implements the language, called ABStractme. This monograph proposes the extension of this approach with the refinement of a previously defined concept - emph concern - for the modularization of simulations. This refinement aims at the reuse of emph concerns developed in several simulations, from the definition of its interface. Also, the tool ABStractme that supports the model-driven approach has evolved to incorporate the extension proposed
