Contemporary Issues in Current Account Operations in Pakistani IBs - Sharia Compliant Solution
Contemporary Sharia scholars have three stances about the Current Account Operations in Pakistani Islamic Banks (IBs) i.e., (i) Ijarah based contract (ii) Wadi'ah based contract, and (iii) Qard based contract. This paper is an attempt to delve into the root causes of the differences of scholars and to find the Sharia-compliant solution acceptable for all. Descriptive as well as applied approaches are used in this paper. Clearing of ambiguity on this issue may result in twofold benefits: from the public point of view, it would satisfy practising Muslims which may result in form of huge deposits in this account (ii) from IBs viewpoint the Current Account is a bonus deposit
Fungi - an Amalgam of Toxins and Antibiotics: a Mini- Review
Fungi are eukaryotes with many functions. Earlier, fungi were classified in the plant kingdom but were later classified as a separate kingdom due to their unique cell walls. Fungi are heterotrophs like animals and are more closely related to animals. The perception of fungi is inconspicuous due to their small sizes and their ability to grow symbiotically in plants, animals, other fungi, and parasites. Fungi are used for their nutrition, fermentation potential, and bactericidal potential. However, fungi are also toxic due to certain bioactive compounds known as mycotoxins. Candida and Aspergillus are invasive species that contribute to a high percentage of mycoses in oncological and haematological patients. The mortality rate due to invasive aspergillosis and candidiasis is high, at 4% and 2%, respectively. In the agriculture sector, a significant contributor to damage to crops globally is the invasion of filamentous fungi. Fungi invasion destroys over 125 million tons of wheat, rice, soybeans, potatoes, and maize annually. If prevented, 600 million people may be fed. Therefore, it is vital to consider the dual role of fungi, therapeutic, and pathogenic
Supernova remnants and gamma-ray sources
A review of the possible relationship between gamma-ray sources and supernova
remnants (SNRs) is presented. Particular emphasis is given to the analysis of
the observational status of the problem of cosmic ray acceleration at SNR shock
fronts. All positional coincidences between SNRs and unidentified gamma-ray
sources listed in the Third EGRET Catalog at low Galactic latitudes are
discussed on a case by case basis. For several coincidences of particular
interest, new CO(J=1-0) and radio continuum maps are shown, and the mass
content of the SNR surroundings is determined. The contribution to the
gamma-ray flux observed that might come from cosmic ray particles (particularly
nuclei) locally accelerated at the SNR shock fronts is evaluated. We discuss
the prospects for future research in this field and remark on the possibilities
for observations with forthcoming gamma-ray instruments.Comment: Final version of a review article, to appear in the Physics Reports

Supernova-Remnant Origin of Cosmic Rays?
It is thought that Galactic cosmic ray (CR) nuclei are gradually accelerated
to high energies (up to ~300 TeV/nucleon, where 1TeV=10^12eV) in the expanding
shock-waves connected with the remnants of powerful supernova explosions.
However, this conjecture has eluded direct observational confirmation^1,2 since
it was first proposed in 1953 (ref. 3). Enomoto et al.^4 claim to have finally
found definitive evidence that corroborates this model, proposing that the
very-high-energy, TeV-range, gamma-rays from the supernova remnant (SNR) RX
J1713.7-3946 are due to the interactions of energetic nuclei in this region.
Here we argue that their claim is not supported by the existing multiwavelength
spectrum of this source. The search for the origin(s) of Galactic cosmic ray
nuclei may be closing in on the long-suspected supernova-remnant sources, but
it is not yet over.Comment: 4 pages, 1 Figur

Alternative Buffer-Layers for the Growth of SrBi2Ta2O9 on Silicon
In this work we investigate the influence of the use of YSZ and CeO2/YSZ as
insulators for Metal- Ferroelectric-Insulator-Semiconductor (MFIS) structures
made with SrBi2Ta2O9 (SBT). We show that by using YSZ only the a-axis oriented
Pyrochlore phase could be obtained. On the other hand the use of a CeO2/YSZ
double-buffer layer gave a c-axis oriented SBT with no amorphous SiO2 inter-
diffusion layer. The characteristics of MFIS diodes were greatly improved by
the use of the double buffer. Using the same deposition conditions the memory
window could be increased from 0.3 V to 0.9 V. From the piezoelectric response,
nano-meter scale ferroelectric domains could be clearly identified in SBT thin
films.Comment: 5 pages, 9 figures, 13 refernece
Did Egret Detect Distant Supernova Remnants?
It might be thought that supernova remnants (SNRs) more distant than a few
kiloparsec from Earth could not have been detected by the EGRET experiment.
This work analyzes the observational status of this statement in the light of
new CO studies of SNRs.Comment: Accepted for publication in Advances in Space Research, in High
