Oogenesis and the development of the reproductive organs in Illex illecebrosus females was studied. The sample analyses were obtained from the area between Cape Hatteras and the Grand Bank in 1966-1983. To investigate the oogenesis, 10 gonads were taken from the females with the mantle length of 15-30 cm at allmaturity stages (except spawning). Approximately 2,000 specimens were studied to obtain knowledge of thedevelopment of the reproductive system organs during the ontogenesis. More than 50,000 females were sampled to analyse the maturation dynamics and the distribution during their life cycle. Data on the spawning andspent females were obtained for Illex argentinus

Uma fronteira entre estes dois tipos de fauna ocorre, aproximadamente, nos 42°N e é marcada pela mudança da diversidade de espécies a norte e a sul deste ponto.ABSTRACT: Pelagic shrimps were sampled by R/V "Professor Siedlecki" cruise during August-September 1984 in the region of the North Atlantic subtropical convergence between latitudes 43"-46"N (western), 37C°-46°N (eastern) and at longitudes 14°-30°W. Hauls were made from the surface down to 1200 m. Twenty nine species were identified (excluding those of the family Sergestidae). The results confirmed the existence of a transition zone where omniocean shrimp fauna is dominant and where mixing of northern and central Atlantic pelagic species occurs. A boundary between these two faunas occurs at approximately 42°N and is marked by a change of species diversity northwards and southwards of this boundary

The epibenthic shrimp P. elegans is a recent invader in the Baltic Sea. Settling the Vistula lagoon shrimps are likely basic consumers of plant detritus at the different stages of its formation with periphyton which is connected with detritus (at any case during the summer). The shrimps have probably no serious competitors among autochthonous species of the Vistula lagoon. This may influence on the structure of trophic webs where benthivorous fish are consumers of high levels
