Facilitating open plot structures in story driven video games using situation generation
Story driven video games are rising in popularity, along with the players desire to make meaningful choice within the plot and therefore become more involved and immersed within the experience. This paper investigates the problems which arise from implementing interactive narrative within video games and potential techniques to solve those problems. The main focus of the study was the situation generation technique, used to maintain the continuity within open, emergent plot structures, using behaviour trees as a means to implement and traverse plot sequences. The ISGEngine was developed during the course of this study in order to implement and evaluate the situation generation technique

Shaping Inclusive Markets: How Funders and Intermediaries can Help Markets Move toward Greater Economic Inclusion
Positive progress toward worldwide economic inclusion is not only possible, but can also be made more possible. In Shaping Inclusive Markets, we draw lessons from history on how more inclusive markets have been achieved and highlight ways in which funders and intermediaries can strengthen the conditions for change
Modeling of reaction-diffusion transport into a core-shell geometry
Fickian diffusion into a core-shell geometry is modeled. The interior core
mimics pancreatic Langerhan islets and the exterior shell acts as inert
protection. The consumption of oxygen diffusing into the cells is approximated
using Michaelis-Menten kinetics. The problem is transformed to dimensionless
units and solved numerically. Two regimes are identified, one that is diffusion
limited and the other consumption limited. A regression is fit that describes
the concentration at the center of the cells as a function of the relevant
physical parameters. It is determined that, in a cell culture environment, the
cells will remain viable as long as the islet has a radius of around or less and the encapsulating shell has a radius of less than approximately
. When the islet is on the order of it is possible for
the cells to remain viable in environments with as little as . These results indicate such an encapsulation scheme may be
used to prepare artificial pancreas to treat diabetes

Vectorcardiographic changes during extended space flight
To assess the effects of space flight on cardiac electrical properties, vectorcardiograms were taken on the 9 Skylab astronauts during the flights of 28, 59, and 84 days. The Frank lead system was used and observations were made at rest; during 25%, 50% and 75% of maximum exercise; during a short pulse of exercise (150 watts, 2 minutes); and after exercise. Data from 131 in-flight tests were analyzed by computer and compared to preflight and postflight values. Statistically significant increase in QRS vector magnitude (six of nine crewmen); T vector magnitude (five of nine crewmen); and resting PR interval duration (six of nine crewmen) occurred. During exercise the PR interval did not differ from preflight. Exercise heart rates inflight were the same as preflight, but increased in the immediate postflight period. With the exception of the arrhythmias, no deleterious vectorcardiographic changes were observed during the Skylab missions
