Trawling and trolling for terrorists in the digital Gulf of Bothnia : Cross-lingual text mining for the emergence of terrorism in Swedish and Finnish newspapers, 1780—1926

In pursuing the historical emergence of the discourse on terrorism, this study trawls the “digital Gulf of Bothnia” in the form of a corpus of combined Swedish and Finnish digitized newspaper texts. Through a cross-lingual exploration of the uses of the concept of terrorism in historical Swedish and Finnish news, we examine meanings anchored in the two culturally close but still decidedly different national political contexts. The study is an outcome of an integrative interdisciplinary effort.Peer reviewe

The aim of the study was to get a deeper understanding of how young people think and act when it comes to Contraceptive use, and also if outside factors have an impact on young peoples behaviour in these matters. We looked at our study from an identity and a development perspective. The method was conducted as a qualitative study. There were two groups of 8 young people, aged 16-17. Also 3 professionals that work with young people participated. Semi-structured interviews were performed with both groups, the interviews with the young people were shorter with not so in-depth questions as the interviews with the professionals were, this due to ethic reasons. Open questions around certain themes were posed, such as responsibility, information, risk-behaviour and consequences. Interviews were tape-recorded and transcribed. Earlier studies and literature were read due to our intentions of evidence-based information in our area. Data were analysed according to grounded theories. Results; we have found that avoiding pregnancy is the main reason for young people regarding to contraceptive use. Even though thoughts about sexually transmitted diseases are present. Young people know where to turn regarding questions about contraceptives and other questions about their sexuality. We have found that boys and girls turn to different sources when they look for information and respond to the information in different ways. Results show that girls take more responsibility when it comes to contraceptive use and we can also see that young people have changed their sexual behaviour. Conclusion: we suggest that the information and education young people receive perhaps should be modernised, and that the gender perspective should include both girls and boys. We have seen a tendency that boys are "forgotten" regarding this subject

How to Interpret a Functional or Motility Test - Defecography

    Get PDF
Defecography evaluates in real time the morphology of rectum and anal canal in a physiologic setting by injection of a thick barium paste into the rectum and its subsequent evacuation. Because of its ability of structural and functional evaluation, defecography is primarily performed for work up of patients with longstanding constipation, unexplained anal or rectal pain, residual sensation after defecation or suspected prolapse. Technique and interpretation of this examination are outlined in this review

CO adsorption on Cu(111) and Cu(001) surfaces: improving site preference in DFT calculations

CO adsorption on Cu(111) and Cu(001) surfaces has been studied within ab-initio density functional theory (DFT). The structural, vibrational and thermodynamic properties of the adsorbate-substrate complex have been calculated. Calculations within the generalized gradient approximation (GGA) predict adsorption in the threefold hollow on Cu(111) and in the bridge-site on Cu(001), instead of on-top as found experimentally. It is demonstrated that the correct site preference is achieved if the underestimation of the HOMO-LUMO gap of CO characteristic for DFT is correct by applying a molecular DFT+U approach. The DFT+U approach also produces good agreement with the experimentally measured adsorption energies, while introducing only small changes in the calculated geometrical and vibrational properties further improving agreement with experiment which is fair already at the GGA level.Comment: 15 pages, 3 figures, submitted to Surf.
