Moving Usability Testing onto the Web
Abstract: In order to remotely obtain detailed usability data by tracking user behaviors
within a given web site, a server-based usability testing environment has been
created. Web pages are annotated in such a way that arbitrary user actions (such as
"mouse over link" or "click back button") can be selected for logging. In addition,
the system allows the experiment designer to interleave interactive questions into
the usability evaluation, which for instance could be triggered by a particular sequence
of actions. The system works in conjunction with clustering and visualization
algorithms that can be applied to the resulting log file data. A first version of
the system has been used successfully to carry out a web usability evaluation
WEST: A Web Browser for Small Terminals
We describe WEST, a WEb browser for Small Terminals, that aims to solve some of the problems associated with accessing web pages on hand-held devices. Through a novel combination of text reduction and focus+context visualization, users can access web pages from a very limited display environment, since the system will provide an overview of the contents of a web page even when it is too large to be displayed in its entirety. To make maximum use of the limited resources available on a typical hand-held terminal, much of the most demanding work is done by a proxy server, allowing the terminal to concentrate on the task of providing responsive user interaction. The system makes use of some interaction concepts reminiscent of those defined in the Wireless Application Protocol (WAP), making it possible to utilize the techniques described here for WAP-compliant devices and services that may become available in the near future
Undergraduate Students’ Opinion on Digital Learning in a Post-pandemic Era: A Case Study
The current article aims to investigate learners’ post-pandemic attitude towards digital learning in Higher Education with a specific focus on a group of undergraduate Law students at Babes-Bolyai University from Cluj-Napoca, Romania. To achieve its purpose, the article focuses on answering two research questions: Do post pandemic undergraduate students recognize the benefits of digital learning? Is e-learning currently a reasonable choice for them? The research is designed as an exploratory case study that uses three data collection tools: a questionnaire, an interview, and a classroom observation protocol. The article links information from literature related to the use of digital learning during the pandemic with results revealed by the data collected in the case study. The results suggest a steady trend towards a growing acceptance rate of digital learning by the targeted student population and a lower approval rate of e-learning.

Recycling Lingware in a Multilingual MT System
We describe two methods relevant to multi-lingual machine translation
systems, which can be used to port linguistic data (grammars, lexicons and
transfer rules) between systems used for processing related languages. The
methods are fully implemented within the Spoken Language Translator system, and
were used to create versions of the system for two new language pairs using
only a month of expert effort.Comment: 6 pages, needs aclap.sty. To appear in "From Research to Commercial

Training the osteoplastic flap technique in dogs
SummaryAccess to frontal sinus using the osteoplastic flap technique is indicated in lesions that do not yield endonasal approach. This technique can be practiced with dogs, although delineation of sinusal perimeter in canines is not as easy as it is in humans.AimThis study aims at presenting a method to access and delineate the frontal sinus of canines to reproduce the osteoplastic flap technique in man.Study designSurgical technique in animal.Material and MethodIn adult dogs, two straight lines were drawn: one along the median line of the frontal region; and the other at 45° from the pupil. At the intersection point, 1-1.5 cm forward and 1 cm backward was measured; from these points, an incomplete rectangle delineating the frontal sinusal perimeters was drawn.ResultsThis procedure was performed 12 times during one year with participation of medical residents. Opening the animals' frontal sinuses was an easy procedure, and the osteoplastic technique to locate the sinus was performed without failures.ConclusionThe method of locating and delineating the frontal sinus of dogs was useful to show that the osteoplastic technique is realistically reproducible in men
