Atomic-scale investigation of hydrogen distribution in a TiâMo alloy
Ingress of hydrogen is often linked to catastrophic failure of Ti-alloys. Here, we quantify the hydrogen distribution in fully ÎČ and α + ÎČ TiâMo alloys by using atom probe tomography. Hydrogen does not segregate at grain boundaries in the fully ÎČ sample but segregates at some α/ÎČ phase boundaries with a composition exceeding 20 at.% in the α + ÎČ sample. No stable hydrides were observed in either sample. The hydrogen concentration in ÎČ phases linearly decreases from ~13 at. % to ~4 at. % with increasing Mo-content, which is ascribed to the suppression of hydrogen uptake by Mo addition
Multi-scenario modelling of learning
International audienceDesigning an educational scenario is a sensitive and challenging activity because it is the vector of learning. However, the designed scenario may not correspond to some learnersâ characteristics (pace of work, cognitive styles, emotional factors, prerequisite knowledge, âŠ). To personalize the learning task and adapt it gradually to each learner, several scenarios are needed. Adaptation and personalization are difficult because it is necessary on the one hand to know in advance the profiles and on the other hand to produce the multiple scenarios corresponding to these profiles. Our model allows to design many scenarios without knowing the learner profiles beforehand. Furthermore, it offers each learner opportunities to choose a scenario and to change it during their learning process. The model ensures that all announced objectives have enough resources for acquiring knowledge and activities for evaluation
Superconducting and normal-state properties of the noncentrosymmetric superconductor Re3Ta
The noncentrosymmetric superconductor, Re3Ta, has been characterized in detail with a combination of magnetization, heat capacity, and electrical resistivity measurements, as well as a microscopic investigation of the internal magnetic fields using muon spin spectroscopy (ÎŒSR). In low applied fields, we observe 100% flux expulsion at a temperature of Tc = 4.68 K, which is concomitant with a sudden decrease of the electrical resistivity to zero and a sharp discontinuity in the heat capacity, confirming bulk superconductivity in this material. We find that Re3Ta is a poor metal, with superconductivity occurring in the dirty limit, and in which the disorder in the structure dominates the physical properties. Zero-field ÎŒSR shows that the superconducting state preserves time-reversal symmetry, and transverse-field measurements of the superfluid density are well described by an isotropic s-wave model. A careful analysis of the internal field distribution reveals a high level of disorder in the vortex lattice. Furthermore, we have combined the experimental data and calculated the effective mass, carrier density, and electronic mean-free path in this material, and ultimately show that Re3Ta lies close to the unconventional region of the Uemura plot

The Formal Dynamism of Categories: Stops vs. Fricatives, Primitivity vs. Simplicity
Minimalist Phonology (MP; Pöchtrager 2006) constructs its theory based on the phonological epistemological principle (Kaye 2001) and exposes the arbitrary nature of standard Government Phonology (sGP) and strict-CV (sCV), particularly with reference to their confusion of melody and structure.
For Pöchtrager, these are crucially different, concluding that place of articulation is melodic (expressed with elements), while manner of articulation is structural. In this model, the heads (xN and xO) can license and incorporate the length of the other into their own interpretation, that is xN influences xO projections as well as its own and vice versa. This dynamism is an aspect of the whole framework and this paper in particular will show that stops and fricatives evidence a plasticity of category and that, although fricatives are simpler in structure, stops are the more primitive of the two.
This will be achieved phonologically through simply unifying the environment of application of the licensing forces within Pöchtrager's otherwise sound onset structure. In doing so, we automatically make several predictions about language acquisition and typology and show how lenition in Qiang (Sino-Tibetan) can be more elegantly explained
Peer mentorship and positive effects on student mentor and mentee retention and academic success
This study examined how the introduction of peer mentorship in an undergraduate health and social welfare programme at a large northern university affected student learning. Using an ethnographic case study approach, the study draws upon data collected from a small group of mentors and their mentees over a period of one academic year using interviews, reflective journals, assessment and course evaluation data.
Analysis of the data collected identified a number of key findings: peer mentorship improves assessment performance for both mentee and mentor; reduces stress and anxiety, enhances participation and engagement in the academic community, and adds value to student outcomes

Mental health in UK Biobank - development, implementation and results from an online questionnaire completed by 157 366 participants: a reanalysis
Background
UK Biobank is a well-characterised cohort of over 500 000 participants including genetics, environmental data and imaging. An online mental health questionnaire was designed for UK Biobank participants to expand its potential.
Aims
Describe the development, implementation and results of this questionnaire.
Method
An expert working group designed the questionnaire, using established measures where possible, and consulting a patient group. Operational criteria were agreed for defining likely disorder and risk states, including lifetime depression, mania/hypomania, generalised anxiety disorder, unusual experiences and self-harm, and current post-traumatic stress and hazardous/harmful alcohol use.
Results
A total of 157 366 completed online questionnaires were available by August 2017. Participants were aged 45â82 (53% were â„65 years) and 57% women. Comparison of self-reported diagnosed mental disorder with a contemporary study shows a similar prevalence, despite respondents being of higher average socioeconomic status. Lifetime depression was a common finding, with 24% (37 434) of participants meeting criteria and current hazardous/harmful alcohol use criteria were met by 21% (32 602), whereas other criteria were met by less than 8% of the participants. There was extensive comorbidity among the syndromes. Mental disorders were associated with a high neuroticism score, adverse life events and long-term illness; addiction and bipolar affective disorder in particular were associated with measures of deprivation.
Conclusions
The UK Biobank questionnaire represents a very large mental health survey in itself, and the results presented here show high face validity, although caution is needed because of selection bias. Built into UK Biobank, these data intersect with other health data to offer unparalleled potential for crosscutting biomedical research involving mental health
Quantification challenges for atom probe tomography of hydrogen and deuterium in zircaloy-4
Analysis and understanding of the role of hydrogen in metals is a significant challenge for the future of materials science, and this is a clear objective of recent work in the atom probe tomography (APT) community. Isotopic marking by deuteration has often been proposed as the preferred route to enable quantification of hydrogen by APT. Zircaloy-4 was charged electrochemically with hydrogen and deuterium under the same conditions to form large hydrides and deuterides. Our results from a Zr hydride and a Zr deuteride highlight the challenges associated with accurate quantification of hydrogen and deuterium, in particular associated with the overlap of peaks at a low mass-to-charge ratio and of hydrogen/deuterium containing molecular ions. We discuss possible ways to ensure that appropriate information is extracted from APT analysis of hydrogen in zirconium alloy systems that are important for nuclear power applications
