Limited memory and the essentiality of money
This paper investigates the relationship between memory and the essentiality ofmoney. We consider a random matching economy with a large finite population inwhich commitment is not possible and memory is limited in the sense that only afraction m E(0; 1) of the population has publicly observable histories. We show thatno matter how limited memory is, there exists a social norm that achieves the firstbest regardless of the population size. In other words, money can fail to be essentialirrespective of the amount of memory in the economy. This suggests that the emphasison limited memory as a fundamental friction for money to be essential deserves a deeperexamination.
Money versus memory
A well–established fact in monetary theory is that a key ingredient for the essentialityof money is its role as a form of memory. In this paper we study a notion ofmemory that includes information about an agent’s past actions and trading opportunitiesbut, in contrast to Kocherlakota (1998), does not include information aboutthe past actions and trading opportunities of an agent’s past partners. We first showthat the first–best can be achieved with memory even if it only includes informationabout an agent’s very recent past. Thus, money can fail to be essential even if memoryis minimal. We then establish, more interestingly, that if information about tradingopportunities is not part of an agent’s record, then money can be better than memory. This shows that the societal benefit of money lies not only on being a record of pastactions, but also on being a record of past trading opportunities, a fact that has beenoverlooked by the monetary literature.
Monetary equilibrium with decentralized trade and learning
This paper analyzes the stability of monetary regimes in an economy where fiat money isendogenously created by the government, information about its value is imperfect, and learningis decentralized. We show that monetary stability depends crucially on the speed of informationtransmission in the economy. Our model generates a dynamic on the acceptability of fiat moneythat resembles historical accounts of the rise and eventual collapse of overissued paper money. It also provides an explanation of the fact that, despite its obvious advantages, the widespreaduse of fiat money is only a recent development.
Using the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) for Modeling Multiagent Systems
The formation of high-performance teams has been a constant challenge for organizations, which despite considering human capital as one of the most important resources, it still lacks the means to allow them to have a better understanding of several factors that influence the formation of these teams. In this sense, studies also demonstrate that teamwork has a significant impact on the results presented by organizations, in which human behavior is highlighted as one of the main aspects to be considered in the building of work teams. The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator seeks to classify the behavioral preferences of individuals around eight characteristics, which grouped as dichotomies, describe different psychological types. With it, researchers have sought to expand the ability to understand the human factor, using strategies with multiagent systems that, through experiments and simulations, using computer resources, enable the development of artificial agents that simulate human actions. In this work, we present an overview of the research approaches that use MBTI to model agents, aiming at providing a better knowledge of human behavior. Additionally, we make a preliminary discussion of how these results could be explored in order to advance the studies of psychological factors' influence in organizations' work teams formation
Since the Brazilian Constitution of 1988, which recognized the universal right to
health, there have been many achievements for the homeless population, such as the
creation of the National Policy for the Homeless Population in 2009 and the
implementation of the Street Clinic, in 2011. But, despite constitutional advances,
historically the homeless population has limited access to services. In the municipality
of Contagem, Minas Gerais, the Consultório na Rua was implemented in 2019 as a
health care strategy offered to homeless people, thus creating the need for better
knowledge of this population to subsidize this service and verify if there are barriers to
access. at the service of Primary Health Care. The present study sought to understand
the access of the homeless population to the Primary Health Care service, in the
perception of professionals from basic health units, the staff of the Street Clinic and
people living on the streets, in addition to verifying whether there were difficulties for
professionals at this level of care in assisting homeless people in the municipality of
Contagem, Minas Gerais. Eighteen homeless adults, five professionals from the Street
Clinic and fourteen professionals from Primary Health Care were interviewed. The
interviews were analyzed using Laurence Bardin's content analysis technique. It was
found that the unhealthy conditions experienced on the street favor illness and result
in a poor self-perception of their health, but due to barriers to accessing Primary Health
Care, homeless people seek urgent and emergency services to meeting your health
needs. The main barriers to access identified were stigmatization and prejudice,
requirement of documents and proof of address for care, non-attendance due to poor
hygiene conditions and prolonged waiting for care. Entry into Primary Health Care
services is best achieved when mediated by assistance equipment for this group, such
as the Consultório na Rua and the Shelter. The Street Clinic proved to be the best
strategy for assisting this population segment, promoting comprehensive treatment in
street spaces and articulating the longitudinality of care with other points in the network.
Primary Care professionals considered that the health network is not fully prepared to
assist the homeless population and cited as difficulties for care the lack of knowledge
of the user's health history, difficulty in locating this individual after care, lack of of
professionals to meet an increasing demand, in addition to recognizing the existence
of prejudice practiced by health professionals themselves. The research evidenced the
need for training of health professionals, expansion of the number of vacancies in the
Shelter and the guarantee of a complete team of professionals from the Consultório
na Rua team and from the Primary Health Care services.
A pesquisa evidenciou a
In this work are explored the sexual behaviors and the aesthetic notions that escape to
the social expectations and which are at the margin of the traditional medias approach.
Also, it tries to understand the cultural production that arises from the need to diversify
the community, promoting social debate and restructuring the pre-established values.
There are many contemporary investments in photographic self-representation. Here,
the project under analysis is Chicos, that describes homosexual and transsexual men,
where we will see how they deal with the representation of their naked bodies, sharing
the intimacy of their affective experiences, positive or negative, with the social circle or
even with their own bodies. The resource of the photographic image will be approached
in this scenario as a propeller of the “self” representation and of his identity affirmation,
as well as the virtual space in the production and diffusion of the participatory cultural
content
The Influence of Social Cyberloafing on Mental Health: Translation and Transcultural Adaptation of an Instrument
The present study consists of the translation and transcultural adaptation of a research instrument composed of the Social Cyberloafing, Recovery Experience, Fatigue, Recovery-Related Self-Efficacy, and General Well-Being scales to the Portuguese of Brazil. For achieving this aim, we strictly applied the steps set by Beaton et al. (2000), which consist of six stages: translation, synthesis, retranslation, committee of experts, pre-test, and submission to the evaluation committee. The study was applied in 16 participants, university professors at a federal Brazilian university. Results indicate that the translation and transcultural adaptation occurred in an efficient way and did not have methodological, linguistic, or reliability inconsistency according to the tests performed, being adequate for future studies in the area. However, later validation of the instrument is needed.
The analysis of complex networks, in special of
the social networks, has being of interest to the
scientific community worldwide. Such interest is
due to its ability to represent complex problems
in an objective manner, allowing for a theoretical
and practical framework to study the characteristics,
properties and behavior of the elements
composing the problems. In the field of
Information Science, techniques of Social Network
Analysis have being used to analyze the
information flow inside communities as well as
the structure of scientific collaboration networks.
However, evolutional aspects that could
be help to predict the behavior of the authors
and, consequently, of the future structure have
been neglected. It is possible to compare Social
Network Analysis, disregarding its evolutional
aspect, with a photograph, which is naturally
static. Despite its importance, the photograph
cannot be so rich in details as a motion
picture, whose temporal elements ease the
context analysis and the construction of predicting
scenarios. This paper evidences the behavior
of researchers in the Information Science’s
field in Brazil, appealing to the evolutional
analysis of the coauthor network, forecasting
impacts on the structure of such networks in
the next few years
