    Le profil d'altération cuirassé de haut glacis, développé dans l'environnement du site aurifÚre de Gangaol, a subi des phases d'altération suffisamment intenses pour que des minéraux résistants, comme le zircon et l'or, présentent des traces de dissolution importantes. Dans l'horizon supérieur de la cuirasse, ces minéraux altérés coexistent avec des particules d'or conservant des formes primaires intactes et avec des sulfures sains. Au sein de cet horizon, les teneurs en particules d'or sont plus élevées dans la matrice que dans les nodules fortement indurés. Cela implique qu'à ce niveau, le cuirassement a affecté un matériau contenant des éléments de nature et de degré d'altération variés. L'absence d'or dans la partie médiane du profil confirme un certain degré d'allochtonie des matériaux parentaux de l'horizon supérieur de la cuirasse. (Résumé d'auteur

    Effects of rat anti-VEGF antibody in a rat model of corneal graft rejection by topical and subconjunctival routes

    PURPOSE: To compare the effect of a rat anti-VEGF antibody, administered either by topical or subconjunctival (SC) routes, on a rat model of corneal transplant rejection.METHODS: Twenty-four rats underwent corneal transplantation and were randomized into four treatment groups (n=6 in each group). G1 and G2 received six SC injections (0.02 ml 10 ”g/ml) of denatured (G1) or active (G2) anti-VEGF from Day 0 to Day 21 every third day. G3 and G4 were instilled three times a day with denatured (G3) or active (G4) anti-VEGF drops (10 ”g/ml) from Day 0 to Day 21. Corneal mean clinical scores (MCSs) of edema (E), transparency (T), and neovessels (nv) were recorded at Days 3, 9, 15, and 21. Quantification of neovessels was performed after lectin staining of vessels on flat mounted corneas.RESULTS: Twenty-one days after surgery, MCSs differed significantly between G1 and G2, but not between G3 and G4, and the rejection rate was significantly reduced in rats receiving active antibodies regardless of the route of administration (G2=50%, G4=66.65% versus G1 and G3=100%; p<0.05). The mean surfaces of neovessels were significantly reduced in groups treated with active anti-VEGF (G2, G4). However, anti-VEGF therapy did not completely suppress corneal neovessels.CONCLUSIONS: Specific rat anti-VEGF antibodies significantly reduced neovascularization and subsequent corneal graft rejection.     Electrochemical behavior of plutonium fluoride species in LiF-CaF2 eutectic melt

    The electrochemical behavior of plutonium fluoride species was investigated in molten LiF-CaF2 medium in the 1093–1153 K temperature range with PuF4 additions. A preliminary thermodynamic study supposed a Pu(IV) carboreduction into Pu(III) and that Pu(III) reduction into metal proceeds in one step. Then, an electrochemical study was carried out on an inert electrode (tungsten) and confirmed the thermodynamic predictions: Pu(IV) is spontaneously reduced into Pu(III) in presence of carbon and Pu(III) is directly reduced into Pu(0): Pu(III) + 3e− = Pu(0). Moreover, Pu(III) reduction mechanism is a diffusion controlled process. Diffusion coefficients were calculated at different temperatures and obey to an Arrhenius' type law with an activation energy of 63 3 kJ mol−1. The standard potential of Pu(III)/Pu(0) was determined at 1113 K and is found to be −4.61 V vs. F2 (gaz)/F−. This value permitted to calculate activity coefficients for several molalities

    A phylogenetic framework of the legume genus Aeschynomene for comparative genetic analysis of the Nod-dependent and Nod-independent symbioses

    Background : Among semi-aquatic species of the legume genus Aeschynomene, some have the property of being nodulated by photosynthetic Bradyrhizobium lacking the nodABC genes necessary for the synthesis of Nod factors. Knowledge of the specificities underlying this Nod-independent symbiosis has been gained from the model legume Aeschynomene evenia but our understanding remains limited due to the lack of comparative genetics with related taxa using a Nod factor-dependent process. To fill this gap, we combined different approaches to perform a thorough comparative analysis in the genus Aeschynomene. Results: This study significantly broadened previous taxon sampling, including in allied genera, in order to construct a comprehensive phylogeny. In the phylogenetic tree, five main lineages were delineated, including a novel lineage, the Nod-independent clade and another one containing a polytomy that comprised several Aeschynomene groups and all the allied genera. This phylogeny was matched with data on chromosome number, genome size and low-copy nuclear gene sequences to reveal the diploid species and a polytomy containing mostly polyploid taxa. For these taxa, a single allopolyploid origin was inferred and the putative parental lineages were identified. Finally, nodulation tests with different Bradyrhizobium strains revealed new nodulation behaviours and the diploid species outside of the Nod-independent clade were compared for their experimental tractability and genetic diversity. Conclusions: The extended knowledge of the genetics and biology of the different lineages sheds new light of the evolutionary history of the genus Aeschynomene and they provide a solid framework to exploit efficiently the diversity encountered in Aeschynomene legumes. Notably, our backbone tree contains all the species that are diploid and it clarifies the genetic relationships between the Nod-independent clade and the Nod-dependent lineages.     Increased Phosphorylation of Vimentin in Noninfiltrative Meningiomas

    International audienceBACKGROUND: Tissue invasion or tissue infiltration are clinical behaviors of a poor-prognosis subset of meningiomas. We carried out proteomic analyses of tissue extracts to discover new markers to accurately distinguish between infiltrative and noninfiltrative meningiomas. METHODOLOGY/PRINCIPAL FINDINGS: Protein lysates of 64 different tissue samples (including two brain-invasive and 32 infiltrative tumors) were submitted to SELDI-TOF mass spectrometric analysis. Mass profiles were used to build up both unsupervised and supervised hierarchical clustering. One marker was found at high levels in noninvasive and noninfiltrative tumors and appeared to be a discriminative marker for clustering infiltrative and/or invasive meningiomas versus noninvasive meningiomas in two distinct subsets. Sensitivity and specificity were 86.7% and 100%, respectively. This marker was purified and identified as a multiphosphorylated form of vimentin, a cytoskeletal protein expressed in meningiomas. CONCLUSIONS/SIGNIFICANCE: Specific forms of vimentin can be surrogate molecular indicators of the invasive/infiltrative phenotype in tumors
